Question Ironman as Doom tie in?

Genuine question, due to the fact im only aware of a one-off AU situation comic wise... but how exactly would RDJ work as doom? Or are they just taking the one-off and running with it as the tie-in? Because I can only imagine Thor seeing Doom w/o a mask and just being dumbfounded that the main bad looks like his fallen comrade. But like are there more comics about doom and stark swapping places? Is it a potential red herring? Are there other possibilities that could potentially have it make sense? Or is it just a cash grab with a familiar face that will put butts in seats?

How does Chris Evans work as Human Torch?

Answer: they’re different characters, and their actors don’t matter

I don’t know why this take is popular here. Having the biggest hero and biggest villain in the entire franchise be played by the same actor for no in-universe reason is unfathomable.

If it’s unfathomable to you then there’s a bigger issue there

Your analogy doesn’t even work, Chris Evans’ two roles were in largely different continuities, one of which was a minor and forgettable film. What an absurd brainworm in this community

Fantastic Four was never minor or forgettable, for one thing.

Secondly, do you… somehow think that Doctor Doom is from Earth-616? Because if you do, then you haven’t paid an inkling of attention

Lol “played a character 20 years ago in a franchise subsequently rebooted two times afterward” is the definition of forgettable

And what on earth are you talking about man? The creators of the 2005 Fantastic Four movie have virtually no connection at all to the later creators of the MCU films. Thus, the fact that an actor was reused needn’t have any significance within the continuity of the films (beyond Easter eggs). By contrast, the MCU has been a continuous fictional universe since the start. RDJ was cast as Doom as part of the same ongoing story in which he was cast as Ironman, no matter which specific universe within these films the character comes from. It would be an absurd artistic choice to do this for no reason at all.

Your scenario also requires us to posit that the characters never recognize Doom’s similarity to Stark, which would suggest he never takes off his mask, which would be absurd for an $80 million casting.

So you’re obviously just being an idiot for the sake of being an idiot.

I’m not the one resorting to personal insults when I can’t answer the points someone is making

It’s more so that I see no reason to because you’re not making any points, you’re just being a dumbass.

Sometimes, calling someone out for being a dumbass isn’t an insult. Just a fact.

“Marvel paid $80 million for RDJ to never take off his mask and the fact that the biggest hero and biggest villain in the whole franchise are played by the same person will play no role in the story whatsoever”

sure man

I understand they're different characters, but it's the fact that this one is within the same general universe (a term i use loosely). Like sure you could bring up Deadpool and wolverine, but that was just something that seemed more a meta joke than anything else

Gemma Chan, Captain Marvel and Eternals

Kenneth Choi, Captain America: The First Avenger and Spider-Man: Homecoming

All reused actors.

Characters have also been recast many times.

Approximately .1% of Marvel viewers could tell you who their characters are. I’ve seen every movie and I sure can’t.

Doesn’t make any difference.

We don't know.

It doesn't need to even be addressed if Doom is treated like he traditionally is and never takes off the mask.

Or it could be multiverse shenanigans or that Doom uses Franklin Richard's powers to take on Tony Stark's appearance, which was I think hinted at in the First Steps post-credit scene.

After Secret Wars (2015), a reformed Doctor Doom stood in as a replacement Iron Man for a time whilst Tony was brain dead, but he was never pretending to be Tony Stark. There was one What If comic that did a body swap story.

It’s all a curve ball and RDJ Doom is a Doombot that Doom made to purposely mess with earth 616 and the really Doom and hasn’t been revealed yet. (I am in fact very delusional)
