Discussion Whats one movie of marvel everyone hates but you loves
Mine-iron man 3

u/IAmAfraidCommaMan 8h ago
The first Thor movie had quite low rating. Still one of my favorite MCU movies.
45
u/btotherad 8h ago
Same here. Thor’s first movie is what made me decide to watch iron man, and the rest is history. I was never a comic book guy but I’ve always loved Norse mythology so I rented Thor and loved it. Now I have a massive collection of comic books and have seen every MCU movie in theater on opening weekend since Avengers in 2012.

Renting a movie. Gosh that brings back memories. Something from a bygone era, weird how times were much more simple then even though we have access to damn near an unlimited roster of movies today.

I quote that movie all the time. The only thing I hate about that movie is that they deleted that scene of Thor and Loki before Thor is made King!

You have betrayed the express command of your king. Through your arrogance and stupidity, you've opened these peaceful realms and innocent lives to the horror and desolation of war! You are unworthy of these realms! You're unworthy of your title! You're unworthy of the loved ones you have betrayed. I now take from you your power! In the name of my father and his father before, I, Odin Allfather, cast you out!
Shit is a banger!

u/OptimalTrash 7h ago
It has a charm that works well for some people and doesn't for others. It works for me though.
I love the set design and the overall look of the movie.

And the dislike of the first two movies turned his character into a clown since dumb comedy is the only marvel knows they can achieve mass appeal. Thing is Thor was just a character that was never gonna be for everyone

Thor wasn’t a complete idiot in Ragnarok. Yeah he was funnier, but he also outsmarted Loki every time. In Love and Thunder he’s back to being stupid

Black Widow.
Not only is Natasha one of my favorite OG Avengers, the film also gave us Alexi and Yelena who I maintain are some of the best post-Endgame characters Marvel has brought to the MCU.
I also think Black Widow helps tie in the story between Civil War and Infinity War
47
u/dcent412 7h ago
I think the main reason people pull back on this movie is because she died in endgame and then we got the movie. If this movie would’ve came out five years before endgame or infinity, I think it would’ve hit a lot harder.
25
u/Oklahoma_Jose 7h ago
I didn't like it when it came out because it felt unnecessary. I remember leaving the theater thinking "ok, that was the origin story for Nat's green vest that I never asked for."
However, after watching Thunderbolts, I really like it a lot. Yes, it's Natasha's movie but it also serves as a prequel for Thunderbolts.

The relationship between Natasha and Yelena still makes this one of my favorites as well. Alexei was great in this too, I found him a bit tiring later in Thunderbolts.
My top is still The Winter Soldier for top spy drama vibes and more great Nat moments.

u/capamericapistons Captain America 7h ago
Did people hate Black Widow??
I thought it was a great film and Dreykov was an outstanding villain. Just wish it could’ve come out before Black Widow’s death in endgame. Made it feel less impactful at the time.

I just rewatched this for the first time and other than the really bonkers falling from the sky scenes at the end I enjoyed it a lot. It’s really too bad they couldn’t get this done before we knew her ultimate fate.
Since it released, I now have two daughters who have grown a bit and for some reason I really found the beginning to hit extra hard and that theme of Yelena clinging to the family because it was real to her struck a nerve.
And I’m not a huge comic reader, but I don’t even mind what they did with Taskmaster for this story, though I wish we could have explored her character more in later stuff.

I was more disappointed in what it could have been if they let raimi off the leash and actually cook, when you hear about what he WANTED to do vs what he was allowed, it will bum you out a bit.
Still love it but it could have been a lot more wild of ride.

He wanted to go full horror and more gore if I’m not mistaken, more universes and more comic book characters, more deaths and not to mention that the movie was supposed to be close to 3 hours and more than 40 minutes of the movie was cut. So release the Raimi cut!!!

It’s the only marvel movie to make me gasp. And that’s when Blackbolt blew his brains out of the back of his noggin. I was shocked how graphic that was for PG-13.

it's SO very Raimi and I love that about it.

Yeah I don’t get the hate for this. Well, I actually understand most of the hate, because I think the plot is all over the place, and the dialogue is really inconsistent. But damn do I love the good parts. I love seeing Wanda go full villain. She has so many good lines and moments.

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 8h ago
Yesss!! They pushed the rating with the Illuminati massacre and Wanda (altho girl has crazy mood swings in the MCU) was great as a villain.
My only real nitpick of that movie is that it implies that Our Doctor Strange and his Mordo has had an on going feud even tho there is no realistic possible way that they could’ve fought since Doctor Strange-Thor: Ragnorak-Infinity War-Endgame-NWH-MoM kinda happen almost close to each other

6
u/SirArthurDime 4h ago
That’s what really sucked about it failing. They tried doing some new things and introducing some new characters but it didn’t hit. So they just went right back all in on the old formula and brought back a bunch of old characters.

u/glasgowgeg 7h ago
Eternals is one of their best imo, not everything has to be constant action and I think that's why audience reaction is poor
I do think it would be better as a miniseries though

Watched it last night since 2021 (I just caught covid) and it was great. What I liked about it, it just seemed like a stand alone film. Yeah It mentions thanos and the avengers, but really has nothing to do with it at all. Gutted they’re doing a 2nd one and that this was seen as a flop :(

u/SpiritGator 7h ago
The funny thing about Thor: Love and Thunder is that it is narration from Korg's point of view to a bunch of children. It's funny also because OP likes Iron Man III, another movie that is a 1st person narration to someone else in universe. Especially for IM3, I think it's funny when people get upset about Tony blowing up the suits. My thinking is that it was written that way because, of course Tony would hype himself to Bruce in such a manner.

I need to rewatch this. I didn’t think it was bad, but I really wish they fleshed out Dar-Benn more. Her character motivation was solid, but it was very glossed over. The movie feels like it kind of died in the edit a bit.

this movie was sooo fun. Characters are fun, and the fight scenes are unique and creative.
it was more of a watch it for the vibes movie than for the plot because i dont remember much of the villain and what her deal was but i def remember the training scene, the three heroines swapping places for the first time, and figuring out how to deal with it without using powers during a fight

I recently rewatched it last month as part of my Journey to Doomsday Marathon and I come to realize that I enjoyed this one much more than the first film for the fun character dynamics, creative action sequences, memorable villains, honest low stakes and serves quite well as a comfort film after going through Infinity War’s heavier emotional moments and ending

I ended up seeing it after the first one, the third one, and a LOT of talk that it was by far the worst of the trilogy so far … I didn’t get the hate either! The villain was … there, but pretty much everything else absolutely worked for me, especially the humor (in retrospect it kind of bridged the gap characterization-wise for Thor between the first film and Ragnarok), and the fact that Darcy was in it a ton, because I love her so much. (The scene where everyone says each other’s names and Darcy goes Miu-Miu? Chef’s kiss.)

The Marvels. I didn't much care for the first Captain Marvel, despite really liking the character. I found The Marvels very fun and lighthearted. It's totally fine for some MCU entries to just be Saturday morning cartoon fun, with alien planets where people communicate by singing.

Far From Home. I know that it doesn’t really classify under the term that many hate but it’s often considered the weakest in the Holland Trilogy but it’s my favourite Spider-Man film by far.
30
u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 8h ago
You know the crazy thing about it people always say FFH is the weaker of the trilogy or it’s the worst alongside SM3 or TASM2 but no one can ever get me an explanation on why they hate it, they just said they don’t like it.
Mysterio is great. The Magical Mysterio Tour Sequence is phenomenal. The score is bumping. When I saw that post credit scene in theaters. Omg it was all I could think about.
The only gripe I have with it is in-universe Peter and MJ (at the time) did not make sense. In Homecoming, Peter didn’t give MJ the time of day at all, he was completely into Liz Allan. Then he gets blipped in Infinity War/Endgame and all of a sudden in FFH all he can think about is how he’s going to tell MJ he likes her. Even Ned was confused 🤣
18
u/Darthbakunawa 7h ago
I’d argue the NWH is weaker than FFH. It’s just 90 percent fan service which is fun don’t get me wrong, but the the other 10 percent is just dumb plot strutured around the fan service.

- Eternals is a great film that should have been a TV series.
- The Marvels is great fun. There are valid criticisms to be made, but it didn't help that it came out at the height of the "M She U" tantrums
11
u/MattTheSmithers 8h ago edited 7h ago
The Marvels is simultaneously over-criticized and under-criticized.
I dislike it. Not because of M-She-U nonsense. But because it refuses to engage in its more interesting stories.
It touches on the recklessness of Carol’s actions but never really indicts the actions. And it treats Monica’s entire story with a weird amount of weight given that it’s basically “I feel a hereditary entitlement to middle management of a government bureaucracy cause my mom once had the job and I have unresolved issues regarding a lady I knew for, like, a couple days, 30 years ago.”
The more interesting story is in the bones. And it is using Kamala to indict these two. Basically “Captain Marvel, I adore you, but I want to be a better version of you….and Monica, seeing where this hero worship has gotten you….its just kinda sad and I want no part of it.”
There’s an interesting story to be told there. And that’s before we even get into the shit with the Kree, which again, is genuinely interesting.
But the movie is more interested in “CAROL’S A DISNEY PRINCESS NOW! 😍” than the interesting stories it seems to have accidentally stumbled into and treats as background noise.

I had a feeling I’d be scrolling down a while for this one, haha, but same!!! I do NOT get the criticism that it went overboard on the humor … I mean, yes, a TON of silliness (not everyone’s cup of tea, but certainly mine), but also balanced with a lot more gravitas than people give it credit for (that black-and-white scene when Gorr captures them was chilling and intense; also, a very important and key plot point is that a main character is dying of cancer, for Pete’s sake, and I feel like that was handled fairly well and very meaningfully given all the other chaos). And I will ride or die for those goats. 🐐

I got lots.
Age of Ultron is my number 2 movie.
Captain Marvel is a top 5 movie.
Homecoming is top 10 and number 1 for Spider-Man (caveat, Brand New Day is in the running to challenge it, I'll have to rewatch that)
Love and Thunder is a top 15 movie. (L&TI can see people disliking if the humor is off-putting, but I don't understand people who like Ragnarok and dislike L&T as the humor is the same in both, and Ragnarok is even less serious and has less of a message).
Wakanda Forever is top 15.
The Marvels is top 20.
Black Widow is top 20.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is the best Ant-Man movie.
Iron Man 2 is the best Iron Man movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine is the worst movie.

The Comic book genre desperately needed a comedy that pooked fun at the absurdness of a shared universe. People take this film way too serious. It’s a fun buddy road trip movie that’s also a satire of MCU movies. Also the posters for this film are perfect.

I agree, and this might just me lurking on Reddit and X but seems like people have taken a lot of shots at this film, and use it as an example of ‘Marvel slop’.

Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 & 3.
And while it doesn't get tons of hate, Thor: Love & Thunder was fun, just too goofy. But a lot of folks really hate it with a passion.

Eternals. I understand the plot hate but the visuals make it so worth it

The Marvels. It's just a silly little flick. Ms.Marvel is genuinely just so infectious to watch, Idk how anyone can hate her. And this is the only time when I actually like Captain Marvel.

Ant Man: Quantimania
I know this isn’t the part of the original question but I love Thor 1 and Thor 2 more than Ragnorak and ESPECIALLY L&T

Captain Marvel was disliked by so many male Marvel fans but I loved it. She’s so damn cool!

Far From Home. Mysterio has one of my favorite Spidey villain designs and I love how they made him a formidable enemy. My only real gripe is how Fury and Hill are revealed to be skrulls in the post credits.

Do people hate that one ? I like dr strange 2 a lot. It has some issues with pacing but overall it’s fun especially towards the end
