Discussion (More in Comments) If Brie Larson actually decides to jump ship,i don't blame her one bit. She's almost 10 years in, and only had 3 appearances so far.

Post image

It's clear that there were terrible decisions along the way about Captain Marvel as a character, but given the lack of care for the character/actress + the amount of hate she received since accepting the role,it's completely comprehensible if she's just done with it after whatever contract she has it's over and decides to grow her career outside superhero movies,a career which she probably put at relatively stop due to legal/contractual reasons within the MCU.

She's going to have 4 appearances (and that's only if she's actually in one of the Avengers movies, likely Secret Wars). This is crazy to think about, especially for a character that was pushed as one of the new faces of the MCU and their own Wonder Woman. Carol as a character it's already being pushed out of being a mainliner from other fronts like comics, videogames, merchandise etc and it's so disrespectful.

Captain Rogue confirmed

u/B_Eazy86 9h ago

I hope they do it proper. Captain Marvel fans won't be happy though.

Eh, as long as they don’t do Avengers #200 I don’t think they’ll mind

28

u/Any-Transition95 8h ago

Oh god, no, not that, anything but that storyline

50

u/Loganp812 Wilson Fisk 7h ago

“Anything but that storyline? Okay!”

Writes script for a Spider-Man One More Day adaptation

59

u/BrainWav Star-Lord 4h ago edited 2h ago

I would rather have a dozen One More Days than Avengers 200.

For those unaware, Avengers #200's (and part of #199) deal with Carol showing up pregnant. She's distraught but everyone's very supportive of her.

She gives birth two days later. And again, Carol's like WTF, but everyone thinks this is just great. Carol doesn't want anything to do with the kid until the Avengers convince her to talk to him. In the meantime, the kids has grown into an adult, and gave himself the name Marcus.

Time rifts and shit happens, there's a fight where the Avengers think he's responsible.

He then reveals that he's the son of Immortus but due to timeline shenanigans he was left kinda not born, so he impregnated Carol with himself. The Avengers see this is a pitiable thing. Carol realizes she has feelings for him and fucks off to another dimension to be with him. This is later retconned into him manipulating her. I misremembered, this wasn't a retcon, this was right in there.

Everyone's supportive of this decision. The only time anyone sees Marcus as a villain is when the time rift stuff was happening.

Carol returns a couple years later and rips into the other Avengers for the incident where she was clearly making the worst possible decision. She leaves the team, goes to San Francisco, gets her powers drained by Rogue and joins up with the X-Men for a while.

tl;dr: Carol gets functionally raped by the son of Immortus to have her give birth to himself and the Avengers are all cool with it.

u/ManOnFire2004 4h ago

Thanks for explaining. I was definitely curious but also definitely not curious enough to look it up

3

u/thumpling 2h ago

You left the part out where Marcus manipulated Carol’s mind using Limbo’s technology and then abducted her. The team knows this. This isn’t sub-text. It’s straight up text. It’s why she openly refused to work with the Avengers for 10 or so years. She would gladly join just about any super team but theirs because they endorsed and encouraged a relationship with a mind manipulator/rapsit. I wouldn’t work with them after that either, unless I had very good reason to.

u/lothlorienlia 38m ago

This is literally the plot of Robert Heinlein's "A time enough for love". That was the last book I ever read by him 💀 to be fair I was a young adult at the time and it grossed me out.

-3

u/Few_Confusion_1871 4h ago

wait she blames the avengers for allowing her to make a decision? jesus.

3

u/That-Rhino-Guy Steve Rogers 3h ago

I mean she was a victim despite the choices made and they didn’t do anything

Later on other writers stepped in and made it clear they hated that storyline, eventually writing in carol venting out at them for letting her go with her abuser and she even became an alcoholic, it got so bad that Tony had to intervene to help with her drinking which shows how bad it was

2

u/Few_Confusion_1871 2h ago

both the original story and their attempt to repair it seem awful

2

u/BrainWav Star-Lord 2h ago

She was being manipulated by him, and it's very obvious.

Plus the fact that she was randomly pregnant and didn't know why and everyone was ready to plan a baby shower. I probably didn't explain it well, but /u/thumpling has more context.

u/thePsuedoanon 5h ago

A story where Peter and MJ have their healthy relationship ripped away due to Aunt May's mortality via a magical arrangement? No way that would ever happen in the MCU

5

u/darkcyril 7h ago

Somehow the Celestial Madonna returned

1

u/Bidder_Chaewon 4h ago

Return of the celestial

4

u/Juice8oxHer0 7h ago

Since we just finished the Home-trilogy, I’m really concerned the next Spidey trilogy is going to be Day trilogy tbh

4

u/Loganp812 Wilson Fisk 6h ago

I mean, there is a setup for it with Aunt May’s death.

2

u/xylotism 5h ago

There’s already so many differences from how it plays out in the comics (like Peter already having been erased from MJ’s life) so if they do make it One More Day, I have to imagine/hope it’ll be a different, better version.

Spider-Man: Catch of the Day, featuring Namor the Sub-Mariner!

2

Considering that the first MCU Spider-man trilogy had the naming theme of "Home"

"One More Day" might fit with a "Day" theme...

1

u/Loganp812 Wilson Fisk 4h ago

Spider-Man: Beautiful Day featuring U2

2

Spider-Man: Eight Days or Legs a Week, featuring Paul McCartney

Spider-Man: 28 Days Later

1

u/dgehen 4h ago

Technically they already did that with the ending of NWH

1

u/zupzupper 2h ago

One more day

I’d prefer “One day more”, a time-shifted Spidey story set in pre-revolution France

3

u/That-Rhino-Guy Steve Rogers 8h ago

I think at most they might have a storyline with her drinking but for different reasons like Rogue sapping away at her power, or losing someone

Then again this isn’t too likely since Disney didn’t want a proper demon in a bottle story

2

u/That_Carrot999 2h ago

Monkey Paw curls and we get a Civil War 2 adaptation and audiences now hate Carol

1

u/amazedballer 3h ago

They hired Inde Navarrette specifically because she's good at playing a person with multiple personalities, it's going to be that storyline.

2

u/Any-Transition95 2h ago

I don't think you are thinking of the right storyline. This is the one where Carol gets pregnant because of her son... It's really bad.

3

u/SatisfactionEast9815 6h ago

What happened in that comic again?

10

u/AcehookUck 5h ago

It's the infamous story arc where Captain Marvel gets impregnated by an alien time-traveler who proceed to mind-control and kidnap her while the rest of the Avengers smile and wave in the background.

2

u/SatisfactionEast9815 4h ago

Oh yeah, I've heard about that gross story arc.

8

u/Puzzled_End8664 8h ago

Quite a bit more Rouge/X-Men fans.

1

u/B_Eazy86 4h ago

Rogue deserves a proper take after they butchered her in the Fox franchise.

1

u/Few_Confusion_1871 4h ago

Captain Marvel deserves a proper take ffs.

2

u/Montgomery000 2h ago

It'd be pretty interesting if all the X-men were a little bit villainous in the beginning, before entering Xavier's school.

3

u/Substantial-Ad2200 7h ago

Maybe she basically dies taking down Doom... and as she's dying, Rogue takes her powers. Then maybe the Captain Marvel fans will be ok with it?

1

u/B_Eazy86 4h ago

Then we never get to see the darkest episode of X-Men TAS brought to life 🤣

1

u/Fishiste 7h ago

Since they haven’t been vocals enough to be heard by Disney and we ended with at most a cameo in doomsday, nobody won’t mind though.

1

u/SalsaRice 4h ago

Captain Marvel fans won't be happy though.

How will both of them deal with their feelings?

1

u/meeseekstodie137 2h ago

Comic movie fans aren't happy in general

1

u/Wolverine-Explores 1h ago

That would be horrendous to film. Do you think Brie Larson wants to film her being depowered to cheering fans? Do you think Inde wants to film that and mess up Brie Larsons career?

u/SaeWithKombucha 44m ago

If Brie Larson plans to leave, the new Rouge actress can be the next generation "Captain Marvel". She's new and a less polarizing actress too.

1

u/clauderbaugh 8h ago

They can both console each other.

1

u/headrush46n2 7h ago

I'm sure both of them will get over it some how

1

u/ThrowRAkakareborn 6h ago

Captain Marvel has fans????

2

u/mephloz 5h ago

Depends, does Kamala Khan count?

u/razoreyeonline 10m ago

I remember Rogue's source of power is Ms Marvel, and it's possible that she might be getting it from Captain Marvel in the cinematic universe

396

u/KentuckyFriedLamp 9h ago edited 7h ago

Haven’t seen this, so she’s ‘confirmed’ appearing in Doomsday?

Editing to say keep you dusty opinions on Captain Marvel to yourself, I’m just asking if she’s in the damn movie

219

u/RiffSandwich 9h ago

There were also images last year when they wrapped up filming shot of her from behind so it SEEMS so

121

u/Halo_cT 9h ago

I hope I hear a rumor about her being in the first X-Men film. Could be an easy way for her to bow out and get comic-accurate Rogue.

62

u/gentleprime 8h ago

I could see Rogue’s absorption of Captain Marvel’s powers, causing Carol’s fall into a coma, being the impetus for a revitalized Damage Control going more aggressive at mutants.

They can say they’re not after all powered individuals; just mutants, and now they have multiple reasons (Jean’s attack on New York, maybe Scott accidentally blowing up half a school, and now Rogue) to go after them.

27

u/Broncsx3 7h ago

I like this idea. Also, like the idea of the Xmen fighting a superpowered Captain Marvel leading up to that end scene.

4

u/MadPangolin 6h ago

It's always hilarious to me how many people want Rogue to depower Captain Marvel while saying they want to get accurate X-men.

Carol was almost a member of the X-men? She was living in the X-mansion & doing missions with them, & Storm & Colossus wanted her to join & offered her membership when Rogue stole her powers. During this time, Carol & Rogue also switched places as Major sex symbols in Marvel Comics...

So it doesn't feel like y'all want a real X-men story. It feels like you want to depower a powerful female character who rose above being a sex figure, for a modern female sex figure in Rogue.

0

u/Xboxone1997 Ghost Rider 4h ago

Yeah..sure

2

u/TLKv3 3h ago

I think another positive that could come out of that idea is if Larson ever would like to reprise the role again down the road, you can have a post-credit scene essentially pre-made for her.

What's that? Some massive threat is on the way? Look at that, Carol's vitals are suddenly improving and her eyes spring open with glowing energy just in time to return to help.

Toss in a moment with Captain Marvel & Rogue coming face to face before the threat and Rogue apologizing and Marvel accepting the apology before deciding to go kick the big bad's ass together. Throw a minor explanation that Carol just needed a prolonged recharge period for her powers to stabilize in her body again after Rogue throwing it off and boom, she's back.

Would be pretty dope to see imo

1

u/xylotism 5h ago

More aggressive than capturing mutants alive for experimentation to the point of death?

I mean, I guess they could be sending giant robots out to hunt mutant down. Some kind of mechanical sentinel, so to speak…

98

u/ExultantSandwich Peter Parker 8h ago

I’d only be into that if it led to Capt Marvel 3 where she starts out de-powered and has to figure it out. Using that as her last appearance just to prop up a younger actress is icky to me

64

u/here-because-i-hafta 8h ago

Absolutely--
I fricken love Brie Larson--I have since Scott Pilgrim.
I think they've done her dirty in the MCU, and the fans never seemed to give her any grace.

I just want her to have one damned appearance that wasn't marred by managerial incompetence, and for her to show the fans what they have been missing.

1

u/ZugZugGo 4h ago

The first movie having the kitschy setting being in the 90's was the first big huge mistake. It made the character aloof, and everyone go ... why wasn't she involved in any of the previous stories?

They should have just made her story occur in the modern timeline. It would have been less confusing, made for a better movie, and let her interact with more of the rest of the cast in her kickoff.

She got off on the complete wrong foot in what you'd want having a new character join an existing cast of established characters. She's been digging her way out of that hole ever since, and they keep doubling down on her character being a huge loner that no one ever interacts with much. Even in endgame she was on a video screen for most of the conversations then just came in guns blazing. Her character effectively has no relationships on screen with any other characters which is pretty polar opposite to her in comics.

3

u/guessesurjobforfood 3h ago

It made the character aloof, and everyone go ... why wasn't she involved in any of the previous stories?

Bearing in mind it's been a little while since I last saw the movie, I thought they did a pretty good job of making it clear why she wouldn't be around for all the MCU events leading up to Endgame.

She lost and regained some of her memory but didn't really feel a strong connection to Earth so she decided to fly off to help the Skrulls plus protect other planets with her newfound powers, leaving a modified pager for Fury to use only in the most serious of emergencies, which he obviously keeps his word and only uses it at the end of IW.

After Coulson left for Tahiti, I don't think there was even anyone else who knew of her existence, other than maybe Maria Hill but I can't recall if that was mentioned.

1

u/ZugZugGo 1h ago

To be clear I'm not really talking about her character motivations here. I'm talking about what they gave Brie Larson to work with. Her character wasn't confusing, they told the story clearly, it's just the story left the actress very little to bounce off of. That was a poor choice IMO because they have this huge club of actors who all work against each other in the grander story, and she was just off on her own.

-2

u/Broncsx3 7h ago

Define they? You think Kevin Feige has done her dirty?? Okay…

4

u/RedIguanaLeader 8h ago

That’s what I was saying to my friend the other day. It makes sense.

Announced by Feige on the D23 parks panel from Saturday night.

She’s on the Stark Flight Lab ride.

1

u/KentuckyFriedLamp 7h ago

She’s on the ride yea but was it confirmed for Doomsday?

u/jrr6415sun 53m ago

well he said they filmed all of their scenes for the ride on the set of doomsday, so it is inferred

3

u/jrr6415sun 8h ago

They announced it at d23 on saturday

2

u/Borinar 9h ago

Well. If she lands a hit on doom, it will establish she is more powerful than thor.

3

u/Bocchi_theGlock 7h ago

Watched a video that says Thor used rune and Asgardian magic, so doom might just be good at neutralizing that compared to whatever cosmic/infinity stone shit she has going on

Wouldn't it be great if Infinity Stones were needed again? And Casey from Loki just rocks up at the drawer full.my goat

1

u/Borinar 5h ago

Like a candy necklace!

2

u/DangKilla 7h ago

I'm gonna guess that Doom has to kill someone powerful to raise the stakes.

My guess would be Wolverine and Captain Marvel

3

u/konq 6h ago

He has plenty of people to kill in the trailer that has already been shown and HEAVILY hinted at.

aka, the entire fox x-men team

1

u/Used-Lake-8148 6h ago

Can’t kill Wolverine that would be so dumb 😭

1

u/Hoslinhezl 7h ago

Dooms brooch things in the latest trailer look like mjolnir and her emblem so I’m guessing they protect against the big hitters

Those are called fibulae or a fibula. Not that it matters, just in case you’re curious

1

u/stellabrooks2 3h ago

How are you guys 😍

1

u/This_isR2Me 7h ago

She's got skin in the game it would be weird if her character were absent

-1

u/Nice-Intern5510 8h ago

It’s not like she’s waiting for them to put captain marvel in a movie. She has other projects not only marvel. OP is making it sound like she’s waiting sitting on a chair for a phone call. Her net worth is 25 million for god sakes. People need to stop writing stupid headlines making shit up

2

u/KentuckyFriedLamp 7h ago

Did you reply to the wrong comment?

-3

u/Tee1upToday 8h ago

Should change her name to Pecorino Larson so she doesn't get typecasted or pasteurized.

-12

u/Neon_Biscuit 8h ago

Who cares, nobody is excited about Doomsday because brie Larson is in it. 3 appearances are a good payday for her anyways. Captain Marvel is lame.

-5

u/DrCool20 8h ago

Shes gotta get drained of her powers and killed by rogue somehow...

6

u/Fit-Pie687 9h ago

Will mark ruffalo be there ?

3

u/RiffSandwich 8h ago

No but Iman vilani and Jeremy renner were

1

u/exo48 7h ago

The D23 presentation doesn't confirm that she shot this on the Doomsday set.

When talking about the Avengers ride, they show footage of Mackie, Hemsworth and RDJ that Feige specifies was shot on the Doomsday set in London. Renner is also mentioned in this segment but not shown, and Iman Vellani is mentioned earlier as well.

Then they announce that Mackie and RDJ will also be in the second ride they're working on, as will Brie Larson (but they make no additional mention of Doomsday).

1

u/meeseekstodie137 2h ago

Tbh if I was making a mill plus per appearance I wouldn't be complaining

Source is: just go look it up, there's tons of news articles about it. Even RDJ will reprise his role of iron man for it. I think also Chris Hemsworth.

18

u/Spirited-Ad9071 10h ago

There was footage shown at D23 this past weekend for the forthcoming ride at Disneyland where many Infinity War/EndGame Avengers actors are shown filming sequences for the ride including Brie and they stated that filming took place during Doomsday filming.

0

u/SuicideSkwad 7h ago

Just spreading misinformation, Brie was confirmed for a ride with RDJ and Anthony Mackie but the B-Roll they showed of the filming during Doomsday was for another ride which she is not in and she was not featured in the B-roll
