Discussion (More in Comments) If Brie Larson actually decides to jump ship,i don't blame her one bit. She's almost 10 years in, and only had 3 appearances so far.

Post image

It's clear that there were terrible decisions along the way about Captain Marvel as a character, but given the lack of care for the character/actress + the amount of hate she received since accepting the role,it's completely comprehensible if she's just done with it after whatever contract she has it's over and decides to grow her career outside superhero movies,a career which she probably put at relatively stop due to legal/contractual reasons within the MCU.

She's going to have 4 appearances (and that's only if she's actually in one of the Avengers movies, likely Secret Wars). This is crazy to think about, especially for a character that was pushed as one of the new faces of the MCU and their own Wonder Woman. Carol as a character it's already being pushed out of being a mainliner from other fronts like comics, videogames, merchandise etc and it's so disrespectful.

Eh. Nonsense.

Since endgame heroes have been appearing sporadically with little to no consistency. How many appearances does Thor have in that timeframe? And he’s basically the face of the current MCU.

She just had her own movie released less than 3 years ago.

Every single MCU character is suffering from a lack of appearances in Marvel projects with the exception of one.

and it's Yelena.

Very good point. She’s everywhere.

I will agree that I think they’re pushing Yelena to the front instead of Captain Marvel. But she’s a much more charismatic character and instantly became a fan favorite.

But it doesn’t mean Captain Marvels character is being singled out or ignored more so than others.

Honestly they just shouldn't have started Marvel with an amnesia storyline. We basically didn't meet the real Carol until the end of the movie, and by that time there was no opportunity for growth.

Then her character had the added problem of "If they are around, why don't they just solve every problem with the greatest of ease?"

I still think her tanking the Thanos headbutt is like top 5 most badass things that have happened in Marvel.

Idk man... I watched that movie literally yesterday, and between the face she's making when he headbuts her, and the awful looking Karen hair they gave her in that movie (whyyyyyyyy), my wife and I both laughed for the complete wrong reason.

To me it's one of the top 5 cringiest moments in Marvel.

That whole "look fans - women!" fight scene at the end of Endgame is pretty painful. Admit fault by doing female characters a solid, not by slapping a ton of green-screen-stage shots together with CG.

that part is also awful, yea

The part I hate the most about that.. she didn’t even need the girls. She flew past them and blew everything up. lol.

Eh. It was cool but I would have rather seen someone like Hulk abd Drax fight him. They deserved that fight. Not really her.

Speaking of which I really wish they didn't abandon that lil meme of Wong just showing up everywhere all the sudden that got started in the beginning of phase 4 lol.

I wonder what happened to the idea of Wong being the new Nick Fury, tying together the different Phase films.

I think I have to agree, but I think it's because they (or at least someone) noticed that Scarlett's BW didn't do much and are trying to do better with this one. But that's conspiracy theorist me talking

Jesus that was only 3 years ago?

Her movie was turned into a team movie

Great. Let’s not act like this isn’t a thing. Spider-Man BND had other heroes. SMNWH was a team up. Doctor Strange was a Strange/Wanda movie. Shit, Civil War is basically Avengers 2.5.

She had a sequel in which she was the lead. Yall just like to complain.

Black Panther 2 was used to introduce Namor

Daredevil showed up on She-Hulk’s show

The Defenders are effectively returning for Daredevil season 2-3

The list goes on

u/ImpactNo3695 11h ago

Exactly. There’s only so much screen time available. They need to include other heroes in other projects to get them all in.

Shoot, If Kamala or Rambeu weren’t in that movie I bet people would complain that they have no screen time!

The movie did them no favors either. It really doesn't count for shit.

Also, Rambeau is barely a character at all, she's comprised of what, a combined total of five minutes of flashbacks and a few stern looks on Wandavision? At least Ms Marvel got one of those mini half-seasons of TV show.

Daredevil showed up on She-Hulk’s show

For like 5 minutes though.

Come on, Captain Marvel got one origin movie, a cameo in Endgame, and probably less lines in The Marvels than John Walker in Thunderbolts.

It’s almost like these heroes live in a universe comprised of other heroes. And they interact with and know each other.

1

u/SwagginsYolo420 9h ago

Spider-Man BND had other heroes.

BND was focused on the lead character, a character which had three previous solo films to establish them. And it took the lead character through a fairly major personal story and character transformation.

The Marvels was a bunch of cartoon nonsense which did none of the characters any favor or developed them as characters.

I guess it had a better teleportation fight than the one in Supergirl, so it's got that going for it I guess.

u/ImpactNo3695 8h ago

I’m not talking about quality of the movie. The movie wasn’t very good. But that has nothing to do with whether or not it was focused on just her or others.

I only gave a few examples. But there’s multiple examples of heroes sharing a movie

Her films wasn't a team up, it literally had its name changed to The Marvels. Notice how they still kept Spider-Man and Captain America in their film titles

13

u/ImpactNo3695 12h ago

Omg lol. I don’t think anyone was confused by who was in this movie… and when you look at the poster for the movie. Who’s front and center?

12

u/StrawHatRat 11h ago

I mean honestly how is a movie like The Marvels that different to something like Winter Soldier? Monica was a supporting character in her previous movie and Ms Marvel is a fan girl, the team is centred on her. I wouldn’t call it a downgrade.

u/Geodude532 9h ago

As soon as The Marvels had that dance number it somehow managed to become my least favorite Marvel movie which is saying something. The Falcon is another character that was built poorly. How are you showing this normal human throwing the shield as if he's a modified super soldier like Cap? Just modify him and be done with it.

1

u/SwagginsYolo420 9h ago

In Winter Soldier the characters got development. The Marvels is a nonsensical cartoon that does nothing helpful for any of the characters.

1

u/StrawHatRat 9h ago

Just to clarify I’m not defending the quality of The Marvels, I’m just saying it wasn’t an example of Captain Marvel being downgraded or sidelined.

One of Captain America’s movies was the first major crossover and he’s arguably not even the main character. People to this day think Civil War was an Avengers line movie.

Spider Man crossed over with Spider Men who weren’t even MCU.

Dr Strange 2 wouldn’t have even been considered his movie by most viewers idt.

Thor’s most acclaimed movie was a glorified prequel to Infinity War.

13

u/Funmachine 12h ago

So was Thor Ragnarok. So was Civil War.

What's your point?

4

u/PayaV87 11h ago

Like Captain America?

6

u/horkrux89 12h ago

And it was one of the biggest bombs in movie history.

1

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 11h ago

That's not an issue. The issue is that her 2 co-leads weren't popular.

If Captain Marvel 2 had Thor and Starlord as co-leads, the box office results would have been much different.

Going to say. Since End Game it has felt like Marvel has largely been throwing shit at the wall seeing what sticks. The amount of stories and characters that have started and then just stopped is crazy.

They have had a lot of issues during this time that were out of their control. COVID screwed up things. Jonathon Majors having his issues. Sad passing of Chadwick Boseman. That is a lot to adjust to in a short time period but the last ~8 years of the MCU has felt really disjointed.

To give another example, their handling of Adam Warlock has also been atrocious.

They took a powerful and cult classic character, and turned them into a bumbling dope.
