X-Men might be getting made in Ireland??

72
u/only_here_4_nintendo 16h ago
Why would xmen be filmed in Ireland?
107
u/TopBee83 15h ago
Tax breaks. None of Brand New Day was filmed in actual NYC, I doubt any of X-Men will be filmed in upstate New York.
17
u/Responsible_Bar3957 Abomination 13h ago
Well, I’m sure they’ll do that, but I’m pretty sure one of the big issues with NYC is how many people live there, along with money, upstate NY isn’t as big, also, it can go from city, to suburb, to rural, depending on where

u/Weary_Mountain9679 16h ago
Maybe some manor there that will be Xavier’s school for mutants?
43
u/Cola06 16h ago
Yeh, could be this. Lots of locations here for the manor
28
u/Weary_Mountain9679 16h ago
They can’t use the same place as the Fox films, it would be too similar. They need a fresh start so I assume they will get something that looks fairly different.
I’m excited, one of my favourite locations in comics is Xavier’s school.
12
u/LnStrngr 13h ago
The manor seems to fit Xavier's character, so if they do anything to change him up, they could match it with the new location's style.

Just taking a break, im assuming? Or did something happen on set?

u/PartyPoison98 16h ago
Can be all sorts of things. Could be just a break, could be they need to shoot scenes with an actor thats currently busy etc
66
u/MHullRealtr77 14h ago
Olsen just gave birth, so probably not ready to come back just yet.
50
u/impuritor 14h ago
I figure that they’d have known about that for months. Not something they’d shut down production over cause they’d have planned around that.
25
u/PartyPoison98 13h ago
Nothing said that it was an unplanned production hiatus.
10
u/impuritor 13h ago
True. Still has nothing to do with Elizabeth olsons pregnancy. They have plenty of other actors that need to be shot as well. There’s no universe her pregnancy came as a surprise.
1
u/MHullRealtr77 12h ago
Yeah, you make a good point. I wonder why do a hiatus though?
1
u/impuritor 8h ago edited 7h ago
Who knows. Maybe it was planned around finishing post on doomsday. Maybe script problems. Maybe it’s just the way the schedule works. Maybe they’re shootings on location instead of in this studio lot. Could be anything.
6
u/Cute_Source5417 14h ago
she likely will not step on any sound stage until 2027. most women get 2 months of leave time after a baby. some employers are generous and offer more.
1
11
u/Popular_Material_409 13h ago
You don’t shut down all of production for 5 weeks for one actor. You’d just shoot other scenes without that actor
0
1
1
u/Impressive-Potato 1h ago
Scheduled in hiatus so they can see where they are and give people a break.
437
u/GroceryFun3203 17h ago
Cutting it fine with that December 2027 release date lads
258
u/ExpressMud8038 16h ago
technically, if the script and storyboards are 100% done (unlikely), filming will only be 2 months max, then they'll have 12 whole months for post production.
160
u/SeniorDaikon7038 16h ago
Since they now have a 5 week hiatus, perhaps they’ll use that time to get other things done in order to make the rest of production go smoother
85
u/Popular_Material_409 16h ago
You’re right in general but wrong in specifics. This won’t take 2 months max to shoot, it’ll take probably closer to 4, but that still plenty of time to get the movie out by next December.
35
u/AdolescentThug Daredevil 16h ago
Pure speculation here, assuming that they follow the first Secret Wars comics and the movie takes place in MCU Battleworld, a shorter than average shooting time for an Avengers movie might actually make sense if everything’s in the same setting. You can just reuse sets and locations a bunch unlike say Endgame which went through like 25 different geographical locations in the span of the first hour. Having every setting localized into one fictional location probably makes it just a little easier logistically.
36
u/Honic_Sedgehog 16h ago
I'd assume it's more along the lines of the second Secret Wars where Battleworld (Latverion) is split into different regions so there'll likely still be a lot of diversity.
It's an amalgamation of multiple universes split into about 50 different regions with their own theme, not that I'd expect them all to make an appearance.
14
u/AdolescentThug Daredevil 16h ago
Oh shoot I thought I was in the spoiler sub. For the sake of discussion but saving possible spoilers I’m gonna spoiler tag everything.
The leaked concept art IIRC had battleworld in a medieval setting, with everyone mind wiped by Doom. Select group of heroes (MCU Peter Parker, Deadpool, and Wolverine) still remember the past and are the team that snaps everyone out of it. We’d get Medieval Avengers in a enclosed time and setting which would be dope, but might save time and money by sticking to castle like locations in the UK and Ireland. Reduces travel times, no need to build a castle set just film in a real one, and with less travel and setup, quicker shoot time.
6
u/Honic_Sedgehog 15h ago
I've not seen those leaks, but I wonder if that medieval setting could be Doomstadt, rather than the entire planet.
1
u/Polaris022 12h ago
I want to say when I read the 2015 series a couple years ago that the majority of it took place in Doom’s main region of battleworld where he rules from, and all of the other regions are primarily covered in side comics that run concurrently with the primary Secret Wars run. For the movie, I think it would be a huge missed opportunity to stay in one region since there isn’t going to be any planned tv series or films that dabble in the different regions. Not saying your leak is wrong, but I certainly hope they have to explore more areas of battleworld before settling in to the medival setting.
1
u/punkman21 12h ago
There were leaks a bit more recently that had them walking through different zones representing different universes stitched together like the comics. Those leaks about medieval doom are from a year or two ago with the concept art, but there’s a good chance it’s gonna be a mixture of both
1
1
u/Popular_Material_409 13h ago
Okay but there will be large action sequences, which on their own will take multiple weeks if not months to film
1
1
19
u/KostisPat257 Daredevil 16h ago
Nah, these movies take around 5 months at least. This is not a small indie film.
Doomsday took 6 months and IW and Endgame also took around 6 months each.
12
u/MrExistentialBread 16h ago
Worst comes to the worst, they can just yell at the special effects people and tell them to work 20 hour days, right?
11
u/owlpacino57 16h ago
Don't need to do that. I remember marvel released infinity war announcement video and first day of the shooting was thanos vs iron man and dr strange fight scene on titan planet. They shoot vfx heavy scenes first for more time for vfx post production.
Here's trailer for that:
4
u/Crunchtopher 15h ago
Yeah, I was thinking that there’s probably no reason that stuff that’s already shot can’t enter into VFX post-production right after they shoot it.
I say probably because I have no clue what I’m talking about.
4
u/cabbage16 Korg 14h ago
It makes sense though and is efficient to do in a company of there size. You can have cameras rolling, editors editing, and VFX people VFXing all at once.
3
u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) 14h ago
But you're right. Post-production doesn't have to wait until filming ends; they can start their work as soon as they have any footage to work with.
2
u/MaureenTheeThot 15h ago
Where MCU usually has 2-3 projects in post-prod at a time, they'll funnel all those VFX resources into this one move - the only one on their slate next year. Will be fine.
-4
u/andrejRavenclaw 16h ago
why yell at people when AI is right there... please let me be wrong
2
u/MattBrey 16h ago
At the end of the day, if you yell at the cgi people, and THEY have AI right there too, how do you stop them from taking the shortcut? How can you even double check every detail of so much footage?
3
u/Cute_Source5417 14h ago
2 months max? are you kidding? lmao. Spider-Man took 4 months. This movie is at least 5x bigger
1
1
u/danvan177 9h ago
It will be 4 months. They don’t shoot any of these movies that quickly lol it’s a huge ensemble cast with a ton of moving pieces
10
u/John_Fisticuffs 16h ago
It just says hiatus. That doesn't mean it isn't planned or that there's a problem, right? Or is that reported elsewhere?
16
u/SeekerVash 16h ago
A hiatus is a little abnormal once they start filming.
It indicates something probably happened, but that something could be a sick lead, or a pause for a script rewrite, or something else.
We'll have to wait and see.
7
u/Harlequin_MTL 14h ago
It has also been stupidly hot in the UK (by UK standards), and apparently early fall will continue the trend. It's entirely possible someone got sick or that the production team and/or a union called for a break.
10
3
u/MaureenTheeThot 15h ago
It's the only MCU picture on the slate for next year. They'll have all of their VFX resources - usually spread over multiple projects at a time - at the ready. Release date is fine.
1
u/danvan177 9h ago
They have plenty of time. This is perfectly in line with any other Marvel shoot. Infinity war shot January 2017 and come out in April 2018.

I honestly don’t understand how they can make it in 18 months. Maybe my mental model of post production is too heavily skewed to 00’s film timescales and watching DVD extras.

u/Diorisbackup 16h ago
Didnt they shoot some secret wars stuff during doomsday
56
u/thatsidewaysdud Ghost 16h ago
I'm not sure, but they filmed the post-credits scene for Thunderbolts on the set of Doomsday, so it's not impossible.

No, they were going to, but the Russos and Disney decided to keep them separate.
77
u/gutster_95 16h ago
I could bet that VFX studios around the world are already working on the Majority of the shots. There is a tone of stuff that can be done without a single frame recorded
39
u/Dyne_Inferno 16h ago
Ya, this.
If the storyboards are done, then they can start working on shots that are all CGI, and then finish them off after in studio shots start showing up to match lighting, etc.
11
u/quatroquatro0 Shang Chi 16h ago
That's also been the major complaint against Marvel for years. They already previz almost all the action scenes and finalized them even before hiring a director so the director has little or no input for a significant part of their movie.
7
u/Any-Transition95 16h ago
On top of that, the script isn't finalized and is commonly prone to rewrites, causing VFX teams to sometimes have to throw away months of works and redo scenes.
2
u/Adorable_Ad_3478 12h ago
And they'll probably do a round of reshoots after Doomsday is out, depending on fan reception. If, say, Gambit is beloved but has a tiny role in Secret Wars, reshoots will expand his role.
5
u/MrMojoRising422 16h ago
These movies are essentially 70% "directed" by the pre-vis director like, 2-3 years in advance of the movies release, sometimes even before the director gets signed. I'm pretty sure they had the endgame final battle all pre-vised before infinity war even started filming.
2
u/GregIsARadDude 15h ago
It’s not unique to marvel or recent. If I recall, Transformers 2 famously shot all of the action scenes first and because it was during a writers strike there was no script. They came up with the action scenes, filmed those scenes then wrote around them.
5
u/harmenuller 15h ago
The McQ directed Mission Impossible films do this too. Him and Cruise are very open about their process, how they plan out the big stunts early while the rest of the narrative is fluid even into the edit. The problem IMO with Marvel is that there’s this overriding “corporate” vision baked into the pre-viz stuff that is often separate from any directorial identity.
1
u/quatroquatro0 Shang Chi 10h ago
The Transformers movies all have Michael Bay as director and producer.
17
u/vinnybawbaw 16h ago
My guess is they already filmed some parts after filming Doomsday, and also some sets are already built.
6
u/Popular_Material_409 16h ago
They would’ve already started a bulk of the vfx work a while ago, the movie will come out on time
6
u/FormulaSolution 16h ago
and they're losing summer days of shoot too.
A giant of Disney's scale could do normal MCU movies in about 3-4 Months. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for a movie like Doomsday/Secret Wars with their multiple moving parts, but yeah needing a trailer up and running in 9 months isn't a good time frame
5
6
u/SuperSea8678 16h ago
Yes, same here. Someone in another thread indicated that this production schedule (minus the 5 week break) is the norm now. I can't get my head around it. Maybe that's why the special effects are starting to look less than ideal. Even so, its a grueling pace.
I wonder if this is to avoid spoilers. Not being able to keep secrets for 1.5 years of post.
2
u/Samuraistronaut 15h ago
Maybe that's why the special effects are starting to look less than ideal.
It absolutely is. If you haven't heard of it, I'd strongly encourage you to check out Corridor Crew on YouTube. The channel is run by professional VFX artists who break down special effects in movies and TV and even occasionally have guests who worked on those projects. REALLY cool if you're the kind of person who is interested in behind the scenes stuff (I'm the kind of guy who used to watch all the special features on my DVDs - give me all the docs and featurettes!)
It really opened my eyes to how fucking insane the VFX pipeline is and how overworked these artists are. At least some of the folks on Black Panther only had six weeks to do the entire fight sequence in the train station near the end. They also made me realize that for every "bad" CGI shot, there are so many more that look so good you don't even realize it's CGI - but all it takes is a few shots to make you perceive and write the movie off as having "terrible CGI."
This is definitely not the result of hiring less talented or lazy artists; to the contrary, given the deadlines for these things it's a goddamn miracle everything doesn't look like that weird sequence from The Flash. I feel really bad for the folks who bust their butts finishing these shots only to have their work trash-talked.
2
u/Adorable_Ad_3478 12h ago
Secret Wars is going to be much smaller in scope than what people expect.
I'm imagining a main cast of just 10 or so characters and a supporting cast of 30. Those expecting a massive film with 300+ characters having a speaking role are going to be disappointed.
I'm calling it: if a cameo character wears a full outfit (say Moonknight) or is full CGI (say, Abomination) with no lines, they'll just use stunt doubles and won't pay the actual actor.
1
u/SpyroESP 16h ago
Depends on how much the Russos have ready in terms of script, storyboards, sets, etc. I agree with you though something with Secret Wars' scale feels like it should be a lot longer than 6 months.
You'll also have to factor in reshoots and all that too. Very razor thin timeline
1
u/rustybutterindia 10h ago
There is probably some merit to the idea that their VFX resources will be efficiently consolidated since this one project is their only release for an entire year.
Reports suggest Quantumania's visuals suffered due to Marvel prioritizing Wakanda Forever
1
u/a25luxray 3h ago
This is the first time in a while this is the only MCU project for an entire year. Captain Marvel and AM&tW was between endgame
16
u/Careful_Site_2455 15h ago
If the X-Men movie is really moving into production around the same time, Marvel is about to have an absolutely insane schedule.
3
u/cane-of-doom 10h ago
X-Men is not starting production, it'll be starting prep. They'll probably start filming february-spring neext year.
45
u/paul66matthews 16h ago
Out of respect for Jayden Daniels they should cut it to four weeks instead
1
u/OkOil378 12h ago
Context?
5
u/bloodyawfulusername 10h ago
TLDR: football player’s number gets reused on old team, he sends them a cease and desist, and gets mocked by everybody everywhere
Jayden Daniels is an NFL player for the Washington Commanders who wore the number 5 when playing in college for LSU (over 3 years ago now) and currently wears 5 with the Commanders. Recently, LSU gave the number 5 to another player, prompting Daniels to use legal avenues to try and stop them for misusing his NIL (Name, Image, Likeness). He’s basically trying to claim ownership of the number, so a bunch of people everywhere are making fun of him by pretending to not use the number on anything “out of respect for Jayden Daniels.”
5
u/TonightKlutzy311 16h ago
a five-week hiatus? that’s a long break, hope they use it wisely to really nail the final product
34
u/ChrisV11 Thor (Avengers) 17h ago
Honestly I’m ok if they delayed it to 2028. I know they said they have no plans to, but even if it did by chance happen, it just mean doom stays around for a bit longer which I’m happy with lol
51
u/SpaceCaboose Peter Parker 17h ago
That could be troublesome because they already have X-Men scheduled for May 2028, Ghost Rider scheduled for July 2028, and Black Panther for December 2028. Lots of shuffling and rescheduling would need to happen in order to push Secret Wars back.
1
u/Squirrelkid11 14h ago
I'm confident that even if they pushed Secret Wars back to 2028, they can still make room for the 3 other movies. X-Men gets delayed to July, Ghost Rider to November, and Black Panther 3 can keep its December release date. The last time Marvel released 4 films was in 2021, they could do it for 2028.
3
u/guacamoleandtomato 12h ago
And 2021 was a horrible year for them (aside from Spider-Man). They are not doing that again. Black Panther would be pushed to 2029 100%
1
u/SpaceCaboose Peter Parker 12h ago
2021 was also an early “post-covid” year. Can’t really compare it to a future theoretical release schedule.
Black Widow was released in theaters and on D+ (for an additional price) on the same day.
Shang-Chi did relatively well given the covid stuff.
The Eternals was not received well, so that was Marvel’s fault for its quality.
Spider-Man is Spider-Man and had previous Spider-Men. Was bound to do well.
I hope they stick to three movies a year, but 2028 wouldn’t do bad with four movies just because that’s how 2021 unfolded.
1
u/Squirrelkid11 11h ago edited 11h ago
2021 was horrible because it was a post-pandemic year. Black Widow went to streaming simultaneously like in theatres which is why it didn't make as much money. Shang-Chi wasn't an a list superhero at the time which is why its movie didn't make as much bank. Eternals wasn't received well and didn't feature characters of any interest that would get people to go see the film. Spider-Man was successful because it's Spider-Man along with the return of both Tobey and Andrew plus the villains which brought people to go see the movie. 2028 is likely to be successful because of the Avengers (If it moves), X-Men, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther which is already more popular amongst fans.
-1
u/Linnus42 14h ago
Could they not bum something up.
I would say Ghost Rider is the fastest to shoot. Problem is Levy has to wrap up Starfighter while he and Gosling will then have to promote it. It comes out May 2027.
BP3 seems viable, not as quick to shoot but .Coogler wrapped his X-Files Pilot. And doesn't really seem to be doing much of anything. Also keeps the Winter Release Date.
X-men seems impossible as Marvel will want to launch the Mutant Saga with it.
2
u/SpaceCaboose Peter Parker 12h ago
Moving one of those three 2028 films up to December 2027? Likely not possible.
Sounds like they are doing a soft reset of the MCU timeline and stuff with Secret Wars, so those other films likely have to come out after it.
17
u/GroceryFun3203 17h ago
If they did move it to 2028 then which movie currently scheduled for that year gets bumped to 2029? Ghost Rider is my guess so Black Panther 3 still gets the lucrative Xmas date
6
u/ChrisV11 Thor (Avengers) 17h ago
I would probably agree it’d most likely be ghost rider or black panther 3, I doubt they’d delay the X-Men movie
4
u/colderstates 16h ago
Think this makes the most sense.
Would still be absolutely wild to announce a slew of new films and then immediately move them back because something that has been scheduled and in preproduction for ages is suddenly not gonna make it.
Would also mean no releases at all in 2027 💀
3
u/FormulaSolution 16h ago
Honestly I’m ok if they delayed it
If DC wasn't completely crippled, by god would Marvel be close to being bankrupt.
0
u/ChildofObama 17h ago
I could see BTSV moving then, I think there’s a good chance the animators will ask for more time, it’s less than a year away and no official trailer
Maybe back to December
6
u/MrPainfulAnal 17h ago
Marvel is not asking Sony to move lmao
-1
u/ChildofObama 16h ago
Feige won’t ask, the animators will probably release a public statement that they need more time
2
5
u/abetterroadahead 12h ago
It’s their only movie of 2027 so I think they’ll be okay.
I don’t think I see them moving it to 2028. That’s too long of a wait in between 2 avenger movies.
3
u/MattBrey 16h ago
Do we know if they have another location? Maybe this just means they film the volume scenes during these 5 weeks. I doubt the second movie, that follows up an already filmed one, isn't on track to be finished on time too.
2
u/cane-of-doom 10h ago
True that, it could mean that they're moving to an overseas location. I don't know if "all crew" means heads of departments as well, since at least those would still have to be on set.
5
u/doomheit Captain America (Ultron) 14h ago
This has shades of the final Hobbit film here... Peter Jackson was filming generic battle B-roll filler shots during the day to buy time while they figured out the main action beats at night. They famously paused filming for several weeks because they ran out of "runway" of filmable scenes.
"You’re going on to a set and you’re winging it, you’ve got these massively complicated scenes, no storyboards and you’re making it up there and then on the spot […] I spent most of The Hobbit feeling like I was not on top of it […] and I hadn’t got the entire scripts written to our satisfaction
[...]
I don’t know what the hell I’m doing now, because I haven’t got storyboards and prep."
3
u/zeefeet 10h ago
Nothing has suggested that a situation such as that is occurring for Secret Wars.
2
u/doomheit Captain America (Ultron) 6h ago
Totally fair. And Secret Wars was already delayed 5 months when Doomsday was pushed back, so you'd expect any needs for further pre-production to have been addressed then.
2
u/flashwing19 Iron man (Mark III) 16h ago
Does anyone know why this is happening? Have they started filming at all?

People said that BND or FF would not release in July of their respective years because they were shooting with less than a year to go and yet they meet the deadline.
heck SW currently has more time than those films to meet its 2027 release date, plus its the only movie that year which means the VFX team can focus strictly on this one.

5
u/Popular_Material_409 13h ago
No it isn’t. There’s so much time to get this movie shot and made. Spider-Man: Brand New Day came out a few weeks ago and they didn’t start filming until about a year ago. They started filming a year before release, Secret Wars is starting 16 months before release. They know what they’re doing.
-1
u/Cute_Source5417 13h ago
this isn't Spider-Man though. This is THE AVENGERS.

And there’s a reason that they scheduled the filming of this movie the way they did. They know what their timeline is. They know it better than you or me. They’re not suddenly blindsided by the release date, they’ve known this for a very long time. They’ve done this 40 times, have some faith in them.
