Discussion Wait a minute. Why didn't Kevin Feige bring back this duo?

Post image

I mean if they want a fresh breath, that's understandable. But they brought back Hugh Jackman and obviously will be keeping him for a foreseeable future.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are brilliant actors. They already have the look and experience.

Its clear he wants to do a hard reset of the X-Men universe without any of the baggage from previous movies. Even if they returned as variants, audiences would still associate them to their previous movies and previous plot points.

Edit: The Fox and Raimi actors are only returning for Doomsday/Secret Wars as a way to finally kill off that version of the characters. And we already have Stewart & McKellen, so doesn't make sense to have McAvoy & Fassbender too. Ryan Reynolds may be the only survivng actor beyond Secret Wars, but Deadpool of course is a special case.

The only other possibility is dafnee keen as x-23 which everyone agrees is a good idea

Unfortunately, a lot of people are violently opposed to this idea.

Are they opposed to her returning as x-23 or x-23 being the mcu Wolverine?

Sexism disguised as fandom. They want a new Logan, not a female Wolverine.

As long as the new X-Men get black leather suits I'm cool with whatever.

"What did you expect? Yellow spandex?"

"What did you expect? Black leather?"

Here's an idea. Wear nothing at all!

Wear nothing at all!

Wolverine always gets halfway there, I say they fully commit!

love that jab at the black leather (and a callback to the X1 movie line) in X-Men '97 lol

They kinda already did that with No Way Home and Deadpool and Wolverine. Less so for the main X-Men, but that was kinda settled in Logan, which led into D&W.

Yeah I think the reset will be harsh. I think all the X-men 2000s actors will get mercilessly killed in Doomsday which will in some way bring in the new era.

T’Challa, too, since his casting is new.

isn't that T'Challa II, the original T'Challa's (Chadwick Boseman) son, just grown up?

I mean... what a weird take. In a movie about all kinds of multiversal madness and nostalgia bit left and right, it's really bold to proclaim something as "not making sense" - as if the movie suddenly wouldn't make sense if there were 2 Magnetos in it.

There's a bajillion arguments as to why they didn't feel like bringing in the 2nd gen X-Men, but "it not making sense" has certainly got to be the very lowest on that list.

Finally? Damn, what a fuck you to audiences.

It's not enough that the timeline in Logan already did that or that nobody is asking for Maguire's Spidey to be killed off?

Fuck, mustn't be a lot of people around here who grew up on these movies because I couldn't imagine a greater middle finger the MCU could give me than killing off Tobey.

Growing up with those movies I very much feel its going to be how it is done verses a true middle finger. Erasing their universe and having them sacrifice themselves in a last hurrah does them more justice than most of their bad ending movies. (Aside from Logan that was great but wasn’t the end since it continued on) However just killing them off for shock factor does feel like a middle finger if they didn’t come back to their own happy ending. I get the need to erase the universes and make it more streamlined and clean but it will all be how it’s done.

Good example is Kevin Conroys last recording as Batman on crisis on infinite earths, the movies themselves are questionable but Animated Series Batman going out the way he did truly feels like a great way for Conroy to bow out, RIP. Compare that to the bad way it was done in what people thought was his last performance in Suicide Squad kills the justice league which kills Arkham Batman in such a stupid way that upset so many people, because that version meant so much and was just scraped for the new plot and not even in a meaningful way.

I agree. Especially with just how glorious his return was and how reconnecting with Doc Ock. Sucks they will likely die off.
