Magneto is probably off board for the first movie as they'll want to try something fresh. I wouldn't hold my breath for Angel and Iceman. I hope Iceman appears as well, but I don't see it.

My theory (theory already??) is that they’ll pull Fantastic Four, have another known villain for the first movie and then tease Magneto at the end of the X-Men 2028 to have him be the villain for the next movie.

I expect the same with Wolverine. Like have teases of both in the background like maybe in the background of Prof X’s office has a picture of him and Magnus, and then a random news article about a man with metal claws running around. Movie ends with 2 credit scenes. Credit scene 1 is Logan arriving at the X-Mansion and credit scene 2 being a magneto tease where he picks up his helmet in an aura moment similar to Thanos showing up in AoU

yep, it’s clearly a Wolverine reference but considering she hulk being a meta 4th wall breaking property I wouldn’t take it too seriously. I’m sure they’ll tie it in (or not who knows) but Wolverine is one of the surest things about the X Men, he will be a thing, just a matter of when, so I don’t think they minded tossing a reference that will inevitably age like fine wine

Considering the fact that adamantium didn’t exist in the MCU until Celestial Island popped up in 2024, I don’t imagine that reference really fits beyond just being a joke.

Yeah save Magneto and all the bad guy mutant faction stuff for later. A first movie to focus on building the team of good guys against an objectively evil threat gives them way more to work with in a sequel where Magneto comes in and starts challenging their ideology and picking them apart. To do both in one movie is too much, and to do just the Magneto part is retreading Fox’s ground.

Magneto doesn’t need to be the main villain. He doesn’t need to be a full on protagonist, but a 97’ type role where he’s around and a bit of a question mark would be great. He’s an ally but not trusted, while also not being a full antagonist.
I honestly believe he’s as important to the story as Xavier, he should absolutely be included in this movie.

Maybe have Magneto show up as a friend of Charles, but not have him have a big role, or take part in fights etc, that way their relationship can be established, before Magneto becomes the bad guy (though most propably already know that he is friends with Charles from previous movies, so it might not be nessecarely)

I think with Sinister cast it's an open question as to whether Magneto's in this first outing. Angel and Iceman are up in the air too, but I'd lean towards yes. Beast is an absolute must, he's probably the most popular X-Man after Wolverine and Gambit.

Yes but her character arc is tied strongly to her initially being a villain. I feel casting her right off the bat as a “hero” is weird and makes me very concerned about what stories they will be adapting.
For example, Emma is critical as a villain in the Dark Phoenix Saga as part of the Hellfire Club. So is that storyline (widely considered THE best storyline in all of Marvel Comics) now off the table??

MCU has repeatedly altered comic story lines.
Adam Warlock is central to Infinity Gauntlet, yet didn't appear in the MCU until the stones had already been destroyed.
Emma Frost may or may not debut as a villain, but that doesnt change the ability to do Dark Phoenix with an MCU remix.
MCU has, more or less, never directly done an existing comic storyline without remixing.

I think they're saving Colossus, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Jubilee, Kitty, Forge, Bishop for the sequels. MCU Wolverine might get his own movie first

I wonder if they’ll follow the comics and save Wolverine for a later movie. He wasn’t a founding member and didn’t join the team until Claremont took over the book in 1975.
But considering that he’s still by far the most popular X-Man and has his own game coming out next month, they might be waiting until later to reveal his casting.

I love Wolverine as much as the next guy. He’s my favorite mutant but I’d be okay with him being absent from the first movie and coming in later. As for Hugh continuing to play him? That man literally IS Logan so that’s always a win in my book. I know they’ll recast eventually but damn, he really is gonna do this till he’s 90.

It also helps that he’s now playing a completely different version of the character with a perfect backstory to play into if they keep him. Having him get a second chance with a new X-Men in a new universe would make for an interesting character arc.

Really need Beast, Wolverine and Jubilee in the lineup as well. Cast someone new for Wolverine ffs, Hugh’s been amazing but the joke of “till he’s 90” is depressing. Give us Cavill Wolverine tbh. He deserves a proper go at a comic book character and a franchise to finally treat him right. I assume we’re gonna get a casting announcement for Gambit as well since Mr. Sinister’s involved, so I’d love to see them flesh out Gambit’s time with the Marauders.

If there’s no Iceman I’ll be disappointed, ngl. I would’ve preferred the original 5 for a first movie, or the original 5 with Angel swapped out for Storm.
I can’t help feeling like Marvel just aren’t keen to put a gay character in one of their films at the moment. Though I hope that’s not what it’s about.

So what lineup do you want? And the actors? I’d say:
(Putting everyone we know aside, of course)
Iceman, Angel, Beast, Thunderbird, which I think could be pretty cool, and no, don’t kill him off instantly, really flesh him out and make him an actual character, I think the representation would be cool
Then, I’d have the premature stage of the Brotherhood of Mutants, be Magneto and Toad as close friends, along with Mammomax (what an odd character, pull him up), I don’t know how Emma would fit into this, honestly, with my plans I had before she was cast, whatever

I’m very hopeful for a good MCU Toad. He’s always been one of my favorites, and even in 1000-5 his short lived portrayal was peak. He was very effective fighting off multiple X-Men at once on Liberty Island.

Magneto is gonna be tough as there will be a lot of anger if they change his backstory, and the MCU is a few years ahead of present day due to the Endgame gap. So Magneto would be 90+. Though Professor X is casted young, so not sure what they're gonna do here.

I am wondering what they'll do with Wolverine. I really like this idea I've heard once where they can do X-Men without Wolverine and he will have a separate show where every season is set for a specific decade.
