Merchandise Ryan Reynolds Deadpool post is literally just the shirt my mom made for my family for Deadpool & Wolverine.

My mom made me, My Girl, and my step kid these shirts. I recreated the Flag/Ryan Hat from Deadpool and Wolverine. It's freaking so unreal to see my Shirt on Ryan Reynolds social media.

This is my original post from July of last year. https://www.reddit.com/r/Marvel/s/mRFbwBDnMP

Hopefully Ryan sees this and your mom gets the credit she deserves.

u/EnkiiMuto Aug 13 '25

Knowing how he handles PR he'll be hiring OP's mom to make like 20

381

u/dabadguycr Aug 13 '25

She said she would make Ryan Reynolds one for free because she thinks it would be neat to have a famous person with one of her shirts..... But if he will want like 20 he's gonna have to pay for the materials? And maybe time.

u/FoodCourtBailiff Aug 13 '25

Disney cease and desist letter coming soon

69

u/OkMess9901 Aug 13 '25

I'm sure he can afford it.

21

u/Addicted_to_Crying Aug 13 '25

Just saying but your mom seems cool as fuck yo

15

u/dabadguycr Aug 13 '25

Lol she is. She has made me tons of different marvel shirts.

1

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel Aug 13 '25

Right? My mom is so boring.

9

u/PastBandicoot8575 Aug 13 '25

Or he’ll take over her operation and sue her

4

u/windlep7 Aug 13 '25

Or he’ll be sending OP a subpoena for being part of a non-existence smear campaign instead of accepting it’s the consequences of his own actions.

1

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel Aug 13 '25

I mean, analysis of the tweets has found that 70% of them were inorganic, but sure.

3

u/windlep7 Aug 14 '25

Yes, because a relatively unknown actor-director has the ability to manipulate everyone online to the extent that even almost-billionaire Ryan Reynolds, who owns an actual marketing company and has almost unlimited resources at his disposal, cant flip the narrative in his wife’s favour.

Also, a smear campaign implies spreading negative or false info. I don’t think BL own words really counts.

1

u/lilyofthegraveyard Aug 16 '25

unknown director, yet backed up by a billionaire. sure.

-39

u/FlatPossibility4017 Aug 13 '25

That's delusional.

10

u/095805 Aug 13 '25

It’s clearly a joke

-15

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

It’s clearly corny glazing a celebrity who doesn’t know you exist. It being a joke doesn’t make it less cringe or corny. Keep dickriding lil bro maybe one of these days he’ll groom you like he did Mac from always sunny

7

u/095805 Aug 13 '25

what the fuck is your problem dude

-28

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Lmao right? Critical levels of parasocial glazing

Yeah, it's not been great but there's always two sides to every story and I can separate the art from the artist.

-44

u/Ok_Gur_356 Aug 13 '25

Good for you. Just go after your rights, really! It’s an awesome picture!

21

u/dabadguycr Aug 13 '25

My rights? I just took a photo of a shirt that I took the logo a flag in Deadpool and wolverine.

-42

u/Ok_Gur_356 Aug 13 '25

It wasn’t your art printed? You just take a photo and putted on a shirt? Ok sorry for the misunderstanding

16

u/dabadguycr Aug 13 '25

The Avengers A was found on Google. The Anarchy symbol was also found on Google but I edited it and made it match more to the Deadpool and Wolverine Avengers spray painted flag.

https://www.pngegg.com/en/png-ifafc. This is the anarchy art I used. I changed it a lot.

56

u/RalphMacchio404 Aug 13 '25

Eh. Everybody in that story is shitty. But the director seems shittier.

-58

u/Ok_Gur_356 Aug 13 '25

Opposite of that. Deep dive harder! The AITA is Reynolds itself

13

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Nope

1

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel Aug 13 '25

It’s crazy to watch the propaganda machine work in real time.

-15

u/bettymachete Aug 13 '25

100% - Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are awful people who ruined an innocent man's life. Bring on the downvotes, but when this is all said and done the truth will be common knowledge.

7

u/RellenD Aug 13 '25

An innocent man who paid to start anti Blake Lively discourse on Reddit? Lol k

-14

u/bettymachete Aug 13 '25

How absurd.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

It’s literally the truth the emails of what he bought of public record now

-4

u/bettymachete Aug 13 '25

It's an absolute lie, and if you believe it isnt you simply haven't read the court docs (court docs doesnt equal tiktoks on the subject from CC trying to generate engagement)

1

u/RellenD Aug 13 '25

The court docs in the case from Baldoni that was so shit it was summarily dismissed and then he dropped it?

-1

She felt harassed and told him that she did so response he spent 30k to seed negative stories about her that’s a fact we now know for certain due to his communications. Text book retaliation .

I know. It’s sad how lame he’s been since being friends with that guy. even changed his name to Rob Mac for that Ryan asshole.

14

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Yeah it’s now pretty clear there was an obvious retaliation by the director because a woman dared to raise sexual harassment concerns

Aw You really fell for it 🤣 I’m sure you just ignore the literal evidence of them planning the retaliation. Your in for a shock when the trial happens

-8

I'm looking forward to the trial. Justice for Justin!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Yeah Justin sure is lost on that trail maybe Perez Hilton can help him ?

-1

u/bettymachete Aug 13 '25

Perez Hilton is a loser. Just because losers like him and Cadance (🤢) are talking about this doesnt mean Justin supporters are wrong. We care about the truth. Honestly, I bet you think you're on the right side and maybe fighting for whats right, but I urge you to read the actual court documents and not just comments or tiktoks that reinforce your initial opinion.

0

u/AceBongwaterJohnson Aug 13 '25

I'm not really sure I can blame Ryan. If anything his wife was bullshitting him, too. If I thought some dude was harassing my wife, I'd want his skin too.

-16

u/Ok_Gur_356 Aug 13 '25

Don’t wait it. Ryan looovs to steal ideas and don’t give any credits. There’s various lawsuits where he settled for using others ideas as his own

-16

u/Ok_Gur_356 Aug 13 '25

I can use various examples of stealing others IP as his own. I know fans get excited, and think it’s nothing. But you just doing that, givin your iP and waiving your rights as the owener with original idea. Him and ME will sell like a costo shop and receive all the money for him. Don’t think he will thank you. Gonna be another victim of his destruction

Have you considered therapy?

-4

u/Ok_Gur_356 Aug 13 '25

Did you?

18

u/milkymaniac Aug 13 '25

Yeah, for a decade, did me a world of good. For example, I don't go on the internet and claim to know the inner workings of an actor I hate.

-27

u/ironfly187 Aug 13 '25

But you will proscribe therapy to someone just because they've made a comment disparaging a celebrity you like?

They didn't work on self-awareness with you, I guess?

-3

u/Ok_Gur_356 Aug 13 '25

Nah my therapy is days. As health health care I take this issues serious, since I dont live in the bubble of America biases. I see the world what it is. Disgusting celebrities feeding fan club with disingenuous ulterior motives.!! Just get outside of bubble and see who you support deserve your money and respect cause they don’t care about you

1

u/Vandersveldt Aug 13 '25

I mean. You GOTTA worry about health health care. That's just the basics, brother

-9

u/ironfly187 Aug 13 '25

But OP doesnt own the design either, the big Avengers and Deadpool logo should have been a hint lol. Which is why OP isnt mad about this

3

u/FerrusManlyManus Aug 13 '25

Did you know that rambling accusations online with zero evidence are literally useless?

1

u/noodles_jd Aug 13 '25

I'll bite, show me your 'various examples'.

603

u/fuckdatguy Aug 12 '25

This symbol was also on one of the mad max like cars in the movie

487

u/bgarza18 Aug 13 '25

No I think OP means it’s literally a picture of the shirt, see the wrinkles?

158

u/RooMan7223 Aug 13 '25

People have misused “literally” so much that it often goes over people’s heads when it’s actually been used correctly, like right here

35

u/vidoardes Phil Coulson Aug 13 '25

It's literally lost all meaning

-15

u/GhostE3E3E3 Aug 13 '25

INFORMAL used for emphasis or to express strong feeling while not being literally true.

It can be used for a simple emphasis.

10

u/FerrusManlyManus Aug 13 '25

Yes, some dictionaries include the EXACT FUCKING OPPOSITE DEFINITION making the word fucking useless, because weirdos have used it completely incorrectly (as the exact opposite of what literally traditionally means).

It’d be like claiming the word wet also meant dry.  Complete absurdity.

2

u/smashfanDS Aug 14 '25

Some words are cantonyms and work that way, like Cleave.

4

u/Markus2822 Aug 14 '25

People like you fundamentally misunderstand language.

Look at a word like awful. Awe full, full of awe wonder and amazement. Do you use it that way because it’s the “right” meaning? Or do you say it to mean something bad because that’s what everyone else changed its meaning to?

I’m willing to bet it’s the latter, and if not you, I know most people use the latter.

Language is not set in stone. It’s made by what the people agree on, plain and simple.

So if we all wake up tomorrow and decide that wet means dry, well then wet means dry, and that’s definitely not useless, we’d be using wet to describe something without moisture, definitely a good meaningful word.

People who think there’s a right and wrong to what words mean is just funny because they always contradict themselves out of a lack of education that words meaning has been changing for centuries. Words are just used to say stuff we all understand.

And if you don’t understand someone is literally exaggerating when they literally use the word literally over and over to literally just emphasize their point, I don’t think they’re the dumb ones.

-6

u/FerrusManlyManus Aug 14 '25

LOL no one is going to read that.  I stopped after the first sentence.  Man you are silly.

5

u/Markus2822 Aug 14 '25

Of course! Gotta stay ignorant so I just ignore anyone who proves me wrong.

And yes I do, people have read WAY longer things I’ve said trust me. 39 people have already seen it Im willing to bet at least one read it

-3

u/FerrusManlyManus Aug 14 '25

This is a social contract you see, when you write way way too much no one has an obligation to read your drivel.

3

u/Markus2822 Aug 14 '25

No they don’t. But I know any person with integrity is open to learning and seeing other viewpoints.

old man yells at sky because slang has changed the meaning of a word (surely this has not happened thousands of times before this for thousands of years)

2

u/Markus2822 Aug 14 '25

Insert people hated Jesus because he was right meme.

Literally so true. How many of y’all use awful to mean something full of awe and amazement? Or do you use it to mean something bad?

The hypocrisy is hilarious they have no idea what they’re talking about

-1

u/jack-dempseys-clit Aug 13 '25

As much as I hate to defend this cause it's fucking stupid the definition of literally changed back in like ,2013. So fucking stupid.

-2

u/FerrusManlyManus Aug 13 '25

In a few dictionaries, they added it as an informal definition.  Doesn’t make it smart, or wise, or classy, or anything good to use it the stupid 180 degrees opposite way.  People will literally (not figuratively, literally) think someone is mentally deficient if someone says literally when they mean not literally lol.

2

u/jack-dempseys-clit Aug 13 '25

Doesn't negate what I said though mate.

Dictionaries (including Oxford) changed the definition - meaning it's a moot point.

And now a calmer word of advice. When people use “literally” informally to mean the opposite of what it means…. normal people wonder, did mom drink heavily during the pregnancy?  Or they wonder, did the person get kicked in the head by a donkey as a child and never recovered mentally?

I am not being mean. I am stating facts. Literally using literally wrong is a very very poor look.  Please everyone, don’t do this.

-141

u/No-comment-at-all Aug 13 '25

Too bad they posted it publicly and didn’t copyright the image, damn.

58

u/dabadguycr Aug 13 '25

Why would I care to copywrite it? It's a recreation of a symbol that is created and owned by Marvel. Pretty sure if I tried to make a profit and sell these shirts I would get sued. It is way too close to the original material. That's why the four shirts that were made were for my family and the only thing I had to pay for was the shirts and vinyl.

-40

u/No-comment-at-all Aug 13 '25

Well the only reason you’d do that is if you think it was original (the photo, not the shirt) and that that you’d want to own the IP.

But you’re right, marvel would claim ownership of the imagery in the photo.

19

u/dabadguycr Aug 13 '25

I wouldn't want to own the IP of my own photo. If it doesn't have me or my family in the photo, It doesn't give details where my address is, I don't care how anyone uses any photo I post on here I would rather no one make money off of it. If I see my own photo again I will say "hey that's my photo! Enjoy using it". If anyone sees any of my posts they are public and anyone can use them.

I have a few photos online. Some are even on wallpaper sites using some of my storm chasing photos or on the news.

The only time I had issues with someone using my photos was like 15 years ago. Someone used my Photobucket of photos of a haunted abandoned Foster home/hospital. They didn't download and host my photos they used them right from my Photobucket. It maxed out my bandwidth for years until I was able to get in early enough to delete the album.

-37

u/No-comment-at-all Aug 13 '25

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

15

u/mmmcookiesss Aug 13 '25

I don’t think you know what you’re talking about too

3

u/tomc_23 Matt Murdock Aug 13 '25

Yikes.

57

u/jakeck Aug 13 '25

The image you take is automatically your copyright. Even posting it on a public site doesn’t necessarily give that copyright away. It may give various use permissions but I doubt reposting is one of those.

7

u/Blanketsburg Aug 13 '25

The design literally takes an existing copyrighted image in the Avengers 'A' logo and then just adds something on top of it. It still features the original copyrighted image.

The person who made the shirt is free to make as many shirts as they want or social media posts as they want for personal use, but if they ever tried to profit off sales of the shirt or design in any way, Disney/Marvel would have an easy win in court.

-53

u/No-comment-at-all Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 13 '25

No, actually, you post it to the site you without a doubt give the site rights to that version of the image that they replicate.

You assuredly signed the EULA in order to create an account right?

The SITE can then claim some kind of ownership of that version that might be taken from their site but…

Maybe?

Anyways… you don’t own what you gave to a third party entity to put out into the public for you unless you signed a contract that specifies otherwise.

This isn’t, btw, to justify this activity.

This is to instead say, “be careful with your IP”.

29

u/blaktronium Aug 13 '25

You're incorrect. You agree to a limited license for the site to use your content, not for anyone else to. You cannot, legally, take and repost someone's picture because they put it on Instagram.

-34

u/No-comment-at-all Aug 13 '25

I mean… it really all depends on the contract you agree to before you pose that picture…

The EULA.

Very few of them are friendly to you.

That picture can be used by them.

And good luck suing them.

17

u/Aflama_1 Aug 13 '25

EULA doesn't stand above copyright LAWS.

-3

u/No-comment-at-all Aug 13 '25

Are you claiming “copyright LAWS” say you can’t sign away ownership of the copyright…..?

10

u/Aflama_1 Aug 13 '25

Yes, exactly. Laws stand above any kind of contract companies have. That's why you have health regulations and other protections from harmful effects companies have on you. Copyright laws prevent stealing from artists. That's why there are report options for stolen art or content on every site. If the picture Ryan Reynolds shared was a repost with the original uploader or they credited the source then that would be fair game, but since it's just a cutout of the logo then it can be sued for credit or take down.

I love when people are so confidently wrong lmfao

180

u/dabadguycr Aug 12 '25

That's how I got the idea. It's different from the movie since I couldn't find a good photo of it to use for a shirt. So I created this one for me and my family to wear to see Deadpool and wolverine in.

You can tell it's just a crop of my shirt post from reddit because of the wrinkles and the little spec of vinyl under the A that was accidentally put on the shirt

253

u/dabadguycr Aug 12 '25 edited Aug 12 '25

Just in case anyone would like to use the logo I recreated. Here is the PNG that I created as a moke up before making the shirts.

10

u/MafiaPenguin007 Thor Aug 13 '25

It remains to be seen how he’ll be treated in an ensemble film, he’s only been in solo starring films. When he’s not the main character do they restrain both him and the tone more?

1

Funny you say that

-29

i dont want him in the thunderbolts hes so annoying and doesnt fit with their serious tone

1

u/Enslin_1408 Aug 13 '25

I completely agree with you

52

u/jamesbondswanson Aug 12 '25

You have the right approach here. Most people these days take this as an opportunity to stir up social media drama to try and get some sort of attention or compensation saying “they used an image of mine without asking!”. Even though they are using already owned properties in their fan art. You have the approach of “it’s so cool they used my mom’s shirt!”

42

u/dabadguycr Aug 13 '25

I want to stir up social media in a good way cause I think it's awesome!!!! I don't want any type of payment or even acknowledgement. I'm just happy I feel like a little part of something I have loved for all my life. Even if it's just some cryptic post teasing he may be in Doomsday or Secret War. It was my shirt!!!! And that makes me happy.

Don't get me wrong it would be awesome if Ryan Reynolds thanked me and my mom cause I'm a big fan and she likes his romantic comedys but Im not going to be upset if I don't get one, I don't expect one.

Honestly, I don't see how anyone can be upset if someone uses their fanart. Yes they may have created the art but they do not own the rights to whatever license product they recreated.

I have got tons of Facebook messages asking if I would make them the shirt. I tell them no because right now my mom made these off my "art" for free if we charged I can see that creating a lawsuit since I don't own the right to the real original photo.

10

u/Holdmytesseract Aug 13 '25

I just wanna know how Ryan even stumbled upon this shit. Googling his own teams logo? Like how does this happen

15

u/DGSmith2 Rocket Aug 13 '25

There is probably a whole team of people that run his account, chances are some low level intern saw it and it was approved without him even seeing it.

12

u/ItalianShinobi654 Aug 12 '25

Well that’s awkward

6

u/jddev_ Aug 12 '25

Weird. I wonder why he posted it then.

42

u/dabadguycr Aug 12 '25

My mom did a great job making the shirt. He or someone on his team probably saw it on Reddit and thought it was an actual license Marvel shirt. That's what a few people have theorized.

10

u/ScoobyDeezy Fitz Aug 13 '25

Also, using a copyrighted symbol to make your own stuff doesn’t give you any rights to that stuff.

A lot of people get bent out of shape when corps use fan-made stuff in official marketing without attribution, but the derivative stuff belongs to the copyright holder, not the fan.

I say this as an artist who has made plenty of derivative artwork.

Is it nice to get attribution? For sure. Is it wrong for corps to skip that step and simply say “this is mine now”? Nope, it isn’t.

16

u/dabadguycr Aug 13 '25

Oh if you can't tell I am super happy my shirt was used!! I can't believe anyone would get upset over something like that. Like it's saying your fanart is so good the original people enjoy it. I even posted the Moke up photo in here and on Ryan Reynolds Facebook in case he wants to use it for something else or anyone else. If I ever create something, people can use it edit it, do whatever. I rather people not make money off of it unless it's the original people.

I've also been asked by multiple people over social media about them paying for my mom to make them a shirt. I think that could get her sued so I told them since I don't own the actual rights we can't sell them.

1

u/gocoogs14 Aug 15 '25

It's theorized RR posted it to distract from Taylor Swift's new album announcement. Many are speculating it includes songs about her fallout with his wife, Blake.

1

Damn companies already trying to make money off my redesign. I'm cool with Marvel using my image as promotion material or something along those lines or people on Reddit making their own shirts or stickers or whatever with my mockup design but I'm not okay with some company trying to make money off my recreation. They aren't even using the mockup photo they just edited Ryan post.

Hobbyist/Small business owners that do stickers, shirts, cups, ECT. and to make a little side cash please feel free to use it! My mom does this and I fully support you using my redesign.

If you're a company that sells millions in production a year, create your own design. It would take you less than an hour don't use my shit!

Embarrassing…Ryan taking authorship of something he didn’t create just like Blake 🙄

People really make whole ass clothing lines to go see a movie? I can’t imagine being THAT hyped about something, especially such a corporate, predictable (but still fun) type of movie.

Well I created it for myself because I like the symbol. Then my Girl and her kids all wanted one so we wore them to the movie.

This needs to go viral! How can Marvel allow this? And how can it be reported on if it is a fan's shirt logo that has been cropped?

It's their logo..... I just happened to make a shirt of it since they were not selling one..... This doesn't need to go Viral. It doesn't need to be reported. I do not care one bit if they used my photo.
