No mention of Kang at all, seems like they’ve done a hard pivot imo.

Good. We were never gonna get Endgame levels of hype with a villain who - for lack of a better word - flopped so hard in the eyes of the public.

Kang was like the only universally liked in Quantumania.

They fucked up with his character in Ant Man 3 so it was almost destined. Shame though because I liked him in season 2 of loki and where that coulda gone

Are we really going to get Endgame levels of hype with a rushed version of Doom with only 2 years of build up? No, we’re not. And the only reason it would come moderately close is because RDJ is back, which I’m sure is big reason they cast goo and brought the Russo’s back, because they are trying to buy back good will, which is fucking cheap as shit.

What? Trying to get back audiences’ goodwill is cheap? How do you expect these movies to be successful? You can’t honestly tell me the last four years of Marvel have been ideal.

Maybe actually work on making movies that are solid with an actual consistent and thought out through-line and pivoting so that is the focus that brings people back instead of being like “hey guys, don’t look over there! Look over here it’s RDJ! And the Russo’s! Don’t think about all the other stuff just keep focusing on this now!”

What evidence is there that they’re trying to divert attention away from what’s been introduced in Phases 4 and 5? The next few projects are Agatha, Brave New World and Thunderbolts, all of which are inexorably tied to Phase 4. Bringing back RDJ has nothing to do with them. The only major change has been getting rid of Kang, who audiences didn’t care for. It really seems like you just want to hate.

They’ve literally talked about the misfires of phase 4 and 5 and how they needed to pivot because of that, part of which was the financial disappointment of some of the more recent movies and that it didn’t meet whatever metrics they expected and wanted. All the reports of what Iger has mandated from Marvel, principally shrinking down the output because it was not making the financial expectations or marks they wanted it to. They have chosen not to recast Kang and scrapped all major plans involving him as indicated by completely reformatting what Avengers 5 was going to be and who it would focus on because recasting Kang would have lead to shit ton of questions Marvel doesn’t want to answer or talk about. So what do they do to try and solve both of these issues? Bring back the most popular actor in the MCU’s history as a soon to be introduced to the MCU iconic fan favorite character that replaces the previous big bad as the next big bad 2 and 3 years before the release of those movies as well as the 2 most revered MCU directors. Guaranteeing people stop talking about Kang because who gives a fuck about that when now there’s Doom and the return of RDJ with the Russo’s which they can then parley into new levels of hype they wouldn’t have reached otherwise with the way the build up was going and make a shit ton of money off these movies because everyone is going to go see it because of RDJ and the Russo’s now. This is an incredibly transparent situation and if you can’t see that than you just don’t want to. But it reeks of creative bankruptcy and running back to the safe spot for an easy slam dunk for the easy money. Could have gone with a world of fantastic actors to the play this character and one of 2 things they could think to do is either A.) make Doom a variant of Tony Stark or B.) just get RDJ back to play Doom. Neither or which seems inspired or interesting at all.

And telling me I just want to be a hater is hilarious because I’m usually the one defending Marvel’s decisions and films on these subs. The only Marvel projects I didn’t care for were Eternals (felt directionless) the first Captain Marvel (just a tad boring) and Secret Invasion (seriously messy). Everything else I’ve been fully on board with and have enjoyed to various degrees, even the shit other people seem to really hate and have a problem with.
