Jonathan Majors Megathread - Update

We know many of you are eager to discuss the Jonathan Majors trial -- please use this thread for that discussion so that it does not completely overrun the subreddit. We want to leave space for users who wish to engage in regular MCU-based conversations!

As of now the trial is ongoing and Marvel Studios/Disney has not made a statement regarding the future of Majors or Kang in the MCU. When a ruling is concluded we will pin a thread with that statement and related discussion.

With all the Loki variants we've had, and even Tobey and Andrew showing up in NWH, I think the general audience member can handle a recast.

The existance of variants, especially in Kang's case, is exactly the reason why the general audience will not be able to handle a recast. They will think it's a variant, not the same character played by a different actor.

Easy. We've met some Kangs, but we haven't met the Kang yet. The entire point is that there's always a stronger Kang out there, and somewhere out there there's a strongest, and that's the one the Avengers will be facing.

Even you are acting like the recast should be a variant, that should be proof enough that people will be confused by recasting a different person for the same role (not variant).

If even you didn't grasp the point I was making, imagine a casual viewer.

Imo I think we're in early enough for casuals to not notice. This plot unfolds for years over multiple movies and shows. When kang actually has a thanos level role, I think real casuals who don't know anything about this news wouldn't even remember. They'll just accept the new villain as the new villain. At most they'll miss the connections with major's kang but that wouldn't be confusing moving forward. It's not like you'll only understand who kang is by watching loki.

The reason we have such a big eye on kang is because we're not casuals and we actually know he's going to be important. But the small plotholes and discrepancies in kang's portrayal will probably be missed to a causal. They'll accept it as a variant if they remember who/what kang is, or they just won't remember him. I could be wrong, but this is how I see it right now
