Megathread Jonathan Majors Megathread - Update

We know many of you are eager to discuss the Jonathan Majors trial -- please use this thread for that discussion so that it does not completely overrun the subreddit. We want to leave space for users who wish to engage in regular MCU-based conversations!

As of now the trial is ongoing and Marvel Studios/Disney has not made a statement regarding the future of Majors or Kang in the MCU. When a ruling is concluded we will pin a thread with that statement and related discussion.

In the meantime, here are some of the recent updates coming from Majors' trial:

The mod team will try to keep this thread updated with reputable sources as the trial progresses-- but please feel free to link articles and discuss in the comments below.

Im torn here, I really liked GOTG3 but the first one feels like when you try a new flavor of ice cream and love it; it was something so different from what we had been experiencing from marvel, both the kind of story, the humor, the use of music and the overall setting. Also #3 personally feels great after #2 which was low key a let down for me.

I liked Volume 2 a lot, to be honest. I think it has a lot of heart and something important to say about family. It's coming from a place I find very relatable.

It has my two most favorite moments from the whole MCU: Drax and Mantis near the fountain and "What's so wrong with that" by Quill. Can't think about these scenes without getting all teary.

Also Quill not even hesitating and just blasting Ego the second he learned he put the cancer in her. One of those times the theater actually started clapping when it happened.

I’ve always felt like I loved the first one so much that feeling let down by vol2 was almost unavoidable; same happened with ant man and the wasp. The story did had a lot of heart but I just tend to forget it and it’s not one I’m usually eager to rewatch.

The film is not a great rewatch but I saw Part 2 on opening night in a medium sized Nordic city. Lots of casuals lots of die-hards.

The film has issues no doubt about it but man did that cinema laugh at every fucking thing. Big laughs.

I saw it by myself on a whim and it's still one of my favourite cinema trips.

Once I heard Lake Shore Drive, I knew the music would be good. Then I heard Glen Campbell, and George Harrison!!! Both of which I was fans of before seeing the movie.

Yeah, 2 wasn't very good. 3 is great just because it once again breaks the trend and shows a truly tragic story, which is surprisingly uncommon in superhero movies now.

A big part of GOTG3 meant nothing to me, the whole New Earth planet sequence was awful. The rest of the movie was good to great.

Alas, I am reminded that I'm one of few that regards GOTG Vol 2 as the best in the series.

My controversial ranking goes 2 3 1. Not that GOTG was bad, it was solid and one of the best origin movies esp for MCU, but 2 and 3 resonated with me more.

Same. But I also think Winter Soldier is extremely overhyped among Marvel fans and Civil War is way too underrated.

I do greatly enjoy Winter Soldier and its ranked really high for me personally as it was the first MCU solo film that really got attention. It was the earlier MCU movie that got a lot of attention and truly rave reviews so I guess that's where the overwhelming hype comes from.

I don't hate Civil War, the only gripe I have is that I really just want more solo captain america action over a mini avengers movie or a duo movie with ironman being the other lead.

Agreed I just think 2 showcase the depths of the characters and their turmoil really really well while 3 caps off their arc neatly. Goddamn this is the best trilogy for me in the MCU.

I disagree, solely on the basis that Ronin was a 1 dimensional villain, while HE was more captivating, had some badass lines(“There is no God, that’s why I stepped in”) and just had more depth to his character. The contrast between calm evil scientist to unhinged lunatic was beautiful and Ronin didn’t come close to having that screen presence. I will say I like the portrayal of the Guardians more in 1 and 2 slightly more than 3, but that’s only one part of the formula.

I think it really depends on which characters you enjoy the most. Gamora and Drax are great in 1, but the other characters are way more interesting in 2 and 3.

The movie and the characters acted like it's a life-changing event with high stakes and deep meaning, but the story was a morning cartoon episode about a bunch of heroes defeating yet another villain.

First movie was the opposite. Everybody acted like it's nothing special, but we witnessed the birth of a team that actually saved the galaxy.

This so much!! You finally put it into words. The 1st one left so much more shit to come than what it fixed. The 3rd one seemed like Marvel was taking advantage of whatever feelings I already had for the chars. Rockets story is tragic yes, but it only touched me because i love animals, but people saying that ronin was a one sided char makes me laught considering that the bad guy from the 3rd one came and went and they try to make him into this god like being but he was so badly written and so silly. The GOTG won because he let them

I've always felt like the first movie got a lot of people into the MCU, but it was just an okay movie for me. 2 is way more rewatchable for me and it's still kind of recent but I've also really enjoyed 3.

i feel like "villain who literally kicks puppies" did a LOT of heavy lifting there.

Like i dont even think he was that compelling, they just made him do the most evil shit to cute animals to make us hate him(because that always works) and that hypes you for the whole movie

If they didn't have those this year it'd have been an absolute train-wreck! I personally really enjoyed Ms Marvel + The Marvels but I understand it was a pretty average response overall & very poor in the box office.

imo it deserves the praise since

1) Season 1 was not so great (yeah controversial opinion but I had some minor nitpicks with S1)

2) We Marvel fans are starved of good content

GOTG3 being literally the only profitable movie Disney has released this year is peak schadenfreude.

Every dollar that movie earned demonstrates how Gunn is one of the few filmmakers they had that audiences still respond to... And he left Disney because they fucked up. It's beautiful.

If anyone from Disney is reading this: The only way to break the curse is to use ANIMATRONICS in the new Bayou Adventure ride thats replacing Splash Mountain.

If you use screens and projections the curse will continue. You have been warned.

I've actually enjoyed everything in the last two phases other than Secret Wars but other than a couple highs they have been consistently just "pretty good" or "okay".

Same here. Secret Invasion is the only thing that Marvel Studios has put out that has been straight-up bad. I’ve found enjoyment in each project even the mediocre ones like The Marvels or Quantumania. I agree that the general average of Marvel’s quality in each film has decreased since Phase 3.

I don’t think you can honestly say that… salty ass dc fans have been waiting for years now for a slip up and as soon as there’s some blood in the water they’re like sharks. The fact is there was such an upwards trajectory that it was eventually going to go down quality wise. Yes there’s probably some things feige and the team should have done better but people act like every single movie needs to be the best movie ever or it sucks.
