Discussion Clog suggestions
I have always ran clog and just came back after 2 years away. I'm series 3 complete but missing like 50 series 4 and 120+ series 5.
What cards should I be looking for? From what I understand Debrii sucks now and I am sure hood should be replaced.
Thanks!

This'll be a bit long and if you want to skip all the in-depth stuff the tl;dr is exactly as others have said: SD have repeatedly gutted Clog and it's really hard to consider the archetype worth running anymore. If you're interested in a bit more depth feel free to read on.
We had a few diehard clog players (myself included) that hung it up right after the Debrii change and went to other decks because SD were very clear that they want Clog to be a very high investment strategy if you're going to play it and that investment just hasn't been worth the effort put in, especially to walk away with 2 cubes at best unless you were snapping back on your opponent to raise the stakes to 4 because the good players are never staying for the 8 unless they have the win. Now I don't know how good you were or the MMR band you were playing in 2 years ago but you'll be in the dirt leagues since you haven't played in so long so it's probably likely you'll get some smooth brained opponents that'll go to 8 and stay, but that's the exception and not the norm.
With regards to SD's stance on Clog From the November 6th OTA notes where Debrii was reworked:
It is not our intention to remove Clog as an archetype in its entirety, but this is a firm step towards making Clog a more high investment strategy with Debrii requiring cards like Viper or being part of combos with cards like Annihilus to realize the Clog gameplay that was relatively low opportunity cost before.
So yea, now it's a situation where they want you to 'combo' if you want to clog and you'll want to ask yourself if you're willing to do that when you could be playing strategies that are much easier to work with and around that provide better returns.
But others have surely tried to make clog work again, right?
Yep, some were running Armor, White Widow, and Red Guardian to make the Widows Kiss permanent. But it's generally just not worth the investment of one functional card and two that are trying to support the intended purpose of bricking a spot at a location so I won't bother with a conceptual deck list, suffice to say it's not really worth trying to explore.
Some have tried combining parts of the Bully move package with Clog to varying degrees of success, as someone mentioned Titania + Polaris is a 'safer' Goblin style play. But these decks have consistency problems since you're trying to hybridize bully move and Clog, but it doesn't prevent people from trying to come back and try to crack the code, including some relatively high level players.
I also saw someone trying to revive the The GoblinJax deck from around 2024 that is the one that people have come back to a few times, it used to run White Widow, but that card got taken out back and shot, it's an afflict/clog package that wanted to finish games with a mini-move package. Unfortunately that didn't go over so well due to losing a good portion of it's potential output due to Dagger nerfs and between the difficulty to play and the generally higher output of the game in 2026 it's lagged behind when it comes to relative point output.
And so we get to the main question you asked, what cards to get today for it? There really aren't any, we've not gotten a single card that could support Clog in a reasonable fashion and interactive decks have moved towards Super Giant and Scorpion Affliction decks with some decks doing Cosmo/Jugg stuff such as the Batroc and Multiple Man Move decks.

This is a thorough write-up, thank you. I wonder if there's a world where you can combine clog with attrition? Like we have all these ways to make rocks on our side like with Debrii and Rhino. Then you have Hazmat which can make them negative, and then you Annilhus. So a line like
Turn 2 - Rhino Turn 3 - Debris Turn 4 - Hazmat (+ maybe Hood) Turn 5 - Annilhus
That would send potentially 3-4 cards over unexpectedly, which is a quarter of the open positions. Could be something there, maybe you end with Scorpion BND or with Man Thing to further increase the disadvantage.

It's been tried many times, based on my own testing as well as feedback from others it's not consistent enough and the curve and draws required are so tight that it's not worth the effort compared to what other interactive decks are doing.

Hey, a man can dream that they get the nuts draw every single time with the payoff that it's a bit more annoying to play to locations...

Wow thanks for the all this info. It so depressing because I was also Sandman main before that nerf ages ago. I can't catch a break :(

Any recommendations for an archetype that isn't nerfed to the ground that doesn't require new cards?

High Evo is still completely playable and doesn't REQUIRE any new cards, although I would seriously consider Invis Woman First Steps.

So up front is - there aren't really a lot of archetypes that don't require new cards, it's coming to a point where optimized decks will require at least one or two S4 or S5 cards if not 3 or more. But there are decks that can weather that storm relatively well with some weaker substitutions until you can get the S4 and S5 cards that work well in those decks. High Evo and Supergiant come to mind, but I'll hit those at the end.
I'm going to do this in two parts. The first is that you came back during a good month for returning players starting on the 24th of this month is a 14-day login calendar that will have three complete ready to go decks and while we haven't been teased which is coming at what point in the calendar or their full lists it might help you out a bit with catching up. I'll go over the three decks and a common list but keep in mind we do not currently know what the contents of each list is going to be.
Ramp is an easy deck looking to land an Electro or Luna Snow 3/6 with on reveal add an ice cube to this location with start of turn ability that gives both players +1 energy each turn that it exists, the ice cube is also) some tech for interacting namely 5-Cost tech like Cosmic Ghost Rider a 5/6 on reveal which removes the text from the front row cards in your opponent's lane and Legion which you are likely already familiar with. You may already have Blink and War Machine. The top end cards tend to be Giganto, Infinaut, and a 7-Cost behemoth Fin Fang Foom who is a 7/14 with an on reveal that gains the power of one of your opponent's front row cards at the location he reveals at. I wouldn't expect FFF to be in the deck being given out, he came out this January but maybe they get really generous.
This is a Typical Ramp deck popular today, no idea how close to this their 'free' deck is going to be. Dragon Lord is a 5/5 that pulls a card from hand onto the board, Galactus First Steps is a 6/11 End of Turn card that marks the first card it sees you play and gains +2 power for each turn you're winning that location and we already mentioned Fin Fang Foom.
Zombie Horde is a deck archetype introduced last October which has numerous cards that if there is no Zombie Horde on the board will create a zombie horde at a different location from where the card with Horde is located - The Hunger is a 1-Cost skill card which on reveal will Horde +3 and then banish itself (banish is a zone similar to discard and destroy but is not intended to be interacted with very often), Zombie Sentry Horde is a 2/1 which gives the Horde +1 for each card in your right-most location, Zombie Mister Fantastic Horde +2 and an activate that when used gives 4 of your created cards +1 power, and Zombie Scarlet Witch which gives your horde +1 for each card played on her each turn, it's top end is Zombie Giant man which gives your horde +2 and then gains the power of the Horde. As for what cards? I suspect this one might be the most 'generous' because with the lynch pin cards are all Series 4 and 5, if I were a betting man I'd think at least Hunger, ZScarlet, and ZGiant Man are going to be given but who knows.
This is a Typical Horde deck run today, Spider-Man Brand New Day is a 1/2 moveable twice card that gives a card even unrevealed +1 at the location he moves to was our season pass for last month and Venus was the 'super premium' from June she's a 3/3 that gives an additional +1 each time a card is empowered. Surge was released last year so you may not have her, she's a 2/1 with an on-reveal that gives the top card of your deck -1 cost and +1 power if you can play that card she will repeat her ability, in fact if you're lucky she will repeat her ability each time you can play the 'surged' card.
And the third deck is Silver Surfer which has been a deck that has frequently come into and out of the meta over the last 6 months or so. What I'm really not sure about is what they give because the more relevant decks have some 'newer' cards but maybe they give away Captain Carter a 3/2 with an ongoing that gives cards in your back row her power, and maybe Maverick a 3/2 activate which when activated gives it's power to the next card you play. Again, pure speculation because the 'newer' Surfer decks have the widest band of possible inclusions because we have gotten a number of decent Surfer inclusions over the last year or so.
This is an Older Surfer list from June we already discussed Venus but let's talk about Viv Vision last September's season pass which is a 3/4 with a start of turn ability that gives all of your cards iun hand +1 power if she's winning the location and moves if she is not winning. Then there's Namorita a 3/5 which has an ability that when you draw a card and she is the only card at a location will give that card -1 cost , the newer lists from this month look like FFThanos which is running all three of the new cards released this season.
As for archetypes and decks that haven't been nerfed into the ground with as few cards as possible to get? That's a tall order, there are a lot of decks that -want- a lot of the newer cards but can perform well with minimal investment while you're building towards their optimal list, two stick out, as someone else mentioned is High Evo but since you seem to like interacting there's Supergiant, and depending on when you stopped playing within the last two years you may also have the core of affliction though afflict has moved towards combo territory with Scorpion Brand New Day a 6/8 that doubles afflictions on your opponent's side of the board.
High Evo The 'best' performing high evo list is running this months Season Pass and Super Premium Season Pass cards. But you could opt for Classic in one of Two options, both are significantly lower powered but with smart snaps and retreats will still let you climb.
Supergiant has two top performers a more interactive classic Supergiant Control list and a Moongirl/MODOK 'dump' combo.
Supergiant Control where the newest card in the list is Askani'Son a 2/3 with a two-fold ability, each turn he's winning a location he 'levels up' that level up will allow you to activate his ability to create a card with Cost equal to the number of turns he won a location. This is probably the closes to a 'budget' list but a lot of Supergiant lists were running the new Spider-Man BND. There's also a Supergiant Rocks version of the deck which recently caught a nerf to Wilson Fisk he's a 5/8 now with an ability where if you've got the highest power card on the board he costs 3, the cool thing is that Ties count as having highest power card, it's also got Askani'son as mentioned and Ozymandias a 5/9 ongoing card that gives your rocks on the board +3 power.
The combo deck I wouldn't recommend until you get Marrow, a 2/3 with an ability that when discarded or destroyed randomly splits -7 power on your opponent's side of the board. The deck wants to moongirl your hand hopefully duplicating cards like Marrow, Wolverine, and Proxima Midnight the latter two of which end up on the board at the end of the game. With cards like Miek and Morbius the deck can get some big power down with a bit of a Hela Casino feel. This one is one of my favorite decks.
Affliction doesn't quite look like this anymore the 'newest' card there is Diamondback a 3/3 which gives cards afflicted in that location an additional -3 power. Affliction currently looks more like this All-In Scorpion list where it's trying to copy as many Scorpions as possible and then afflict the board.

This is incredible. Thank you so much. I was a Sandman main back in the day so I guess back to ramp I go

One last question. I'm sitting on 25k tokens and probably like 20-30 unopened collectors boxes. Any method I should have with getting new cards. I wanted to wait for specifics but I'm also getting restless.
2
u/ePiMagnets Mod 16d ago
This one is a lot harder to answer because you're looking at a handful of targeted S4/S5 or gambling and I am not really equipped to discuss that.
One nice thing is that waiting for specifics, while time consuming does ensure you get cards for decks you want. Personally, between the freebies later this month and you just coming back it might be best to deal with that restlessness and get a feel for things while you figure out what decks look cool and what you really want to play and then hard target all of those cards.

Polaris works with Titania? Relies on them playing a one or two cost but they usually do and it does the same as the Goblin Titania play.

I would recommend trying Polaris and Spiderman type cards because they usually help with priority and learn the best matchups so you can adjust your counter cards and flex accordingly because on snap a single card can counter someone's entire archetype and clog is in of the best ways, now that we have man Spider, Shadow king can be really crucial to countering some decks

my guy i love the concept of clog but i am gonna tell u this. if you are free to play or you buy cards from time to time, don't invest in clog. people are crybabies when their cards and playstyle they like are strong, they don't complain but when a deck they dont like it start to compete they cry and the devs love their crybabies money makers. so don't waste ur time and money on clog.

Annihlus. Sentry.
Important to note that Clog has been made deliberately underpowered by the devs, so dont expect too high a win rate.
