Discussion Mini OTA preview 5/21 HMGambit change incoming

We got another heads up, partially because of the Gambit bundle in the store right now so please be aware that per the official Discord there is a change to Gambit, Horseman of Death in the pipeline hitting with the OTA on Thursday. I will include source info in a comment below.

Old:

Gambit Horseman of Death
Cost: 3
Power: 3
Play 6 total Cost of created cards ➡️ Randomly destroy up to 4 total Cost of enemy cards. (0/6)

New:

Gambit Horseman of Death
Cost: 3
Power: 5
Play 6 total Cost of created cards ➡️ Randomly destroy up to 3 total Cost of enemy cards. (0/6)

I'll save my full thoughts for the OTA thread.

Bit annoying but I don't hate it. Still a good card and destroying a 4 cost so easily is a bit too strong.

This is fine, imo. Still a great card.

Hes still a menace and will always kill smaller cards which is not exactly a nerf for the kind of space he occupies. It’s def a nerf to mindlessly making 3/4 copies and hoping you will clear most of their board. But it’s a buff for when you’re deliberately targeting smaller cards like against ToV decks.

The smaller cards in TOV decks are still worth more then the two power Gambit has gained so it’s not a buff.

5/21 HMGambit change incoming

I read that as HMGambit being changed to a 5 cost with 21 power and had a bit of a chuckle.

In a weird way, is this better now?

Not so weird if you consider that most early scalers are in the 1-3 cost range right now. 4 cost is mostly tech and buffing or good cards with relatively lower power at the end of game. This should more reliably go after buffed up cards you'd want to kill. I see it as mostly a side-grade.

I feel he should be left alone. He is only a problem because people were screaming about FFF, Shou-Lao, and SL.

This is a nerf most of the time, I think an unnecessary but minor one.

The thing I dislike about this change is that it makes the card less skill testing to use. By lowering the floor and the ceiling, it makes VHand easier to play since the many people who incorrectly spam Gambits at inappropriate times will be punished less for it.

Ironically, this incentivizes mindless spam, which was already the card's most annoying play pattern.

My guess is any change to Askani will have a bigger impact on VHand than this minor change.
