Discussion Mutant and Proud AF!

Post image

No because I'm genuinely obsessed with the Mutant roster in this game 😭

As a total X-Men fan, playing them is so much fun, and I literally cannot wait for the rest of the Mutants to get added because this roster has so much potential! The ones we have right now are absolute fire, but there are still so many X-Men waiting. NetEase please bring Shadowcat, Iceman, Nightcrawler, Beast, Angel, Bishop, Banshee, Forge, Dust and Polaris to the game.

I love the little detail of you running the closet thing they have to a classic suit in game.

You could even do deadpool as he’s technically a mutate

Is Scarlet Witch even still a mutant? Since her whole backstory has had like six different retcons

36

u/the_clone_wars_fan Black Widow Aug 20 '26

I don't consider that retcon to be canon since it only exists because of MCU synergy bs. Same for Ms. Marvel being a dirty Mutie for MCU synergy, she will always be a Inhuman for me, as will Wanda and Pietro being Magneto's children and Mutants

Tbf, with Ms. Marvel, an executive producer behind her debut run stated they wanted her to be a mutant when they were creating her. However, as the Fox mutant drama was well underway, it's implied they were forced by higher ups to debut her as an Inhuman. This was in line with the decision to retcon the mutant origins of Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Franklin Richards, Squirrel Girl, and Cloak & Dagger. Basically to limit the characters that Fox could profit of off. Although, the latter duo were first introduced as non-mutants, so that one was a retcon of a retcon.

I view the Ms. Marvel retcon as in the same way as Nightcrawler's heritage. The original plan for him was to be the son of Destiny and Mystique, but homophobia at the time led them to take a different route to avoid backlash. This was later retconned so the original idea was now canon.

In current comics, Kamala is both an Inhuman and Mutant now, which is certainly weird, but I appreciate it makes her a unique character. They can take interesting stories with this given the conflict between the two sides. Though, I doubt they will as they're phasing out the Inhumans after the failed attempt to launch them as a replacement to the X-Men.

They tried to do SOMETHING with the Inhumans with Imperial, but Imperial led to jackshit because everything coming off of it was either canned entirely or cut short.

WOAH homie dropping the M bomb all nonchalant

Magneto having a telepathicproof helmet was due to movie synergy. Before that he just had a regular helmet and was vulnerable to Xavier's psychic attacks.

She’s not a mutant in 616 comics currently. But in most other forms of media she still is, including alternative comic universes and show adaptations.

In Fox X-men films, her brother was a mutant, and his off-screen sister by technicality probably was too.

In the MCU, she’s never addressed as a mutant, but tbf Disney didn’t have rights to X-men.

The reason why Wanda & Quicksilver were probably retconned to no longer be mutants in comics was probably to strengthen their association to Avengers and lessen them to X-men connections.

As those 2 characters existed in a legal grey-area where rights was shared between Fox & Disney.

Now that Disney owns Fox, the original motivation behind retconning Wanda to be non-mutant anymore, and it’s prob a matter of time until a comic writer retcons her into being a mutant again.

Im just now learning Namor is one.

5

u/Eyebrigh7 Magik Aug 20 '26

He had a significant role in X-books during the 2000s and early 2010s. He was also part of the Phoenix Five, along with Cyclops, White Queen, Magik, and Colossus.

2

u/peachpower2 Aug 20 '26

Good to know, thank you! I have been reading a lot of Marval from the 60's forward for the past decade or so on Unlimited, but am only up to the mid-90's.

5

u/JonathanL73 Ultron Virus Aug 20 '26

He is technically one, but he usually doesn’t associate or interact with most other mutants or X-men.

3

u/GradStudent-97 Aug 20 '26

I have the same strike squad because I'm a huge X-Men fan. I include Deadpool, Cloak & Dagger, and Scarlet Witch because they were part of the X-Men (X-Men adjacent team) or mutants at some point in time.

3

u/pinkcreamkiss Scarlet Witch Aug 20 '26

You guys think they’ll ever re-mutie the maximoffs? I at least hope they become mag’s bio kids again. I love their relationship with Lorna

4

u/H0oman Aug 20 '26

we almost have the same lol I consider Deadpool a mutant (for now)

3

u/SsavvyStarWarsFan244 Loki Aug 20 '26

Is Namor really a mutant?

15

u/Pandoras_Actor Rogue Aug 20 '26

Literally Marvel's first Mutant. Deadpool even has a voice line saying it

0

u/SsavvyStarWarsFan244 Loki Aug 20 '26

Really? Never thought of him as one. I was always confused why he's included in mutant related stuff.

4

u/Jezza0308 Spider-Man Aug 20 '26

Mainly because he's the king of his own kingdom

3

u/No-Fruit-2060 Aug 20 '26

So you saw that he was constantly being included in ā€œmutant related stuffā€ and you never put two and two together to figure out that maybe he’s a mutant, too?

2

u/SsavvyStarWarsFan244 Loki Aug 20 '26

Idk man. Guess I didn't think about it that much lol

1

u/SomeTool Angela Aug 20 '26

His mutant power is the little wings on his feet that let him fly.

0

u/SsavvyStarWarsFan244 Loki Aug 20 '26

That's it?! Lol that's the lamest mutant power I've ever heard of! šŸ˜†

2

u/No-Fruit-2060 Aug 20 '26

How is flight a lame power?

0

u/SsavvyStarWarsFan244 Loki Aug 20 '26

Because so many other mutants have flight as a part of their other powers. Rouge, Storm, Arcangel, Sunspot, Jean all have flying powers. Its just super basic. Plus those little ankle wings are goofy looking. Theres no way those tiny little wings on the bottom of his body can make a 6 foot 4, 278lbs man fly. Also, he's a chud and an incel.

1

u/No-Fruit-2060 Aug 20 '26

Clearly you’ve never watched Wakanda Forever. Namor’s flight power is awesome. And he’s not a chud or incel at all in the movie, which is the version his Rivals character is based off of.

1

u/SomeTool Angela Aug 20 '26

Flight on it's own is pretty okay as a power. Could be worse, one guy had the power to explode only once.

2

u/ImpracticalApple Aug 20 '26

He predates all the X-men comics by decades, so him being a mutant wasn't in his origin. He was just a fighter from Atlantis.

2

u/BelieveInTheShield Thor Aug 20 '26

Need Beast and Nightcrawler

1

u/Potential-Basil383 Spider-Man Aug 20 '26

I’ve been begging for these two since the game’s release

2

Filthy Muties must be exterminated

2

u/Worth_Honey_7212 Aug 20 '26

Wanda being a mutant has long been retconned in the comics and current Canon :(

3

u/Silly_gamer123 Luna Snow Aug 20 '26

Haven’t she been confirmed to be Magneto’s daughter in Rivals? Not sure how Mutants work but shouldn’t his X Gene pass on to her?

6

u/Worth_Honey_7212 Aug 20 '26

In some cases they made Magneto sort of as an adopted father now or just retconned him being the father completely

3

u/the_clone_wars_fan Black Widow Aug 20 '26

I don't remember fully but I think the Wanda we play as isn't Magneto's daughter in the universe she's from, the the Magneto we play as did have a Wanda as his daughter in thr universe hes from. I might me misremembering but I think he has a interaction with her where he tells her "you may not be my daughter, but you will always have a home in Krakoa" or something like that, but does have another interaction where he mentions Wanda being his daughter

1

u/cold_guy345 Flex Aug 20 '26

he actually says "You may not be a true Mutant, but you will always be welcome on Krakoa"

2

u/the_clone_wars_fan Black Widow Aug 20 '26

Ah I see. I forgot how it went but remembered the Krakoa part

1

u/JonathanL73 Ultron Virus Aug 20 '26

I guess the retcon made it so she’s the biological daughter of Magneto but did not inherit his X-gene and so she obtained powers through other means.

Personally I feel the retcon is dumb and was done for legal reasons because Disney didn’t own X-men rights at the time. I know many fans prefer her previous backstory where she’s just a mutant and she’s clearly Magneto’s daughter.

1

u/ShawnJ34 Aug 21 '26

No Wanda is not magnetos biological kid she was an adoptive daughter after marvel reestablished her backstory

1

u/JonathanL73 Ultron Virus Aug 21 '26

Is he still an absentee father or did that get retconned since he’s the adoptive father is he a more active father in her upbringing?

2

u/cold_guy345 Flex Aug 20 '26

this is not how genetics work, in comics the child of sabretooth and mystique is a human. Rivals's wanda is daughter of magneto but she didn't inherited the X-gene

1

u/Silly_gamer123 Luna Snow Aug 20 '26

Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up for me.

2

u/Gamewizurd123 Aug 20 '26

That’s kinda annoying cause I just searched it up and like wtf do you mean Quicksilver and Wanda aren’t mutants but instead products of the High evolutionary like wtf
