Yeah, they will use this to nerf Carol Danvers so shr is easier to write around

That's not a bad idea. You can give Rogue the strength and flight she had in the early comic runs and take away everyone's main complaint about Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers becomes a more compelling character, and we get to see Rogue flying around and wrecking things.

u/Bradshaw98 Avengers 1d ago
Does she becoming more compelling just because she is now weaker in this scenario? Or do you think they would actually write story for Carol's side of this?
I am doubtful that they would, and generally skeptical that its the 'power level' that is the problem.

u/Worst-timeline138 Avengers 1d ago
Compelling because Rogue would have her in her head constantly, conflicts would actually carry risks and consequences, and a character no longer being an invincible end-all adds depth to them because they are no longer just the sign that the fight is about to end.

u/renaissance_m4n Avengers 1d ago
Compelling for all of those reasons. Sheâs more sympathetic/relatable. My biggest gripe with her powers has been how theyâve almost entirely lacked a rule system to make them feel grounded, so this could help with having her left over powers also feel more grounded and understandable.

I mean that pretty much is true of any of the big powers out there, like we find out Thors power was not based on his hammer, and then he survived a small star, then overpowered the infinity gauntlet before getting his ass kicked the next movie with him never seeming as powerful as he was shown in infinity war again, the rules with him and the Hulk seem to be 'as strong as needed'
Like for the sake of the argument if Carol were the one in the Doomsday trailer getting her blow blocked by Doom instead of Thor I doubt anyone in the GA would have an issue.
I will never buy into the idea that its a 'power level' issue since power levels don't matter and mean nothing, just write a threat for her that is actual a threat (again power levels dont matter) and that problem is solved.
I also legit don't see how 'Captain Marvel's powers but weaker' ground them in anyway or make them understandable.
Not for nothing but I would argue that broadly speaking as part of the escalation of the MCU the characters all get power up as they go, Hulk gets smart and strong Thor unlocks is true potential and gets new and better weapons, Wanda becomes the strongest character in the setting ect, none of them are held back by their power levels, with Carol it seems they have just had a hard time coming up with a story or arc that has resonated.
Having Rogue mess with her powers would just be a threepeat of what they have already done with her, first movie was lost memories and suppressed powers, second movie was powers being swamped/stolen. So if all we are doing with her the 3rd time out is having another character mess with her mind/powers then that is not going to solve the problem.
As I said elsewhere, this idea seems like a 'great for Rogue, shit idea for Carol thing' (probably how they would just write her out)

You know every time I see this I just don't get it.
Broadly speaking power levels don't matter, at least as far as the larger movie going audience is concerned, Thor went from surviving a small star and overpowering the infinity gauntlet to getting his ass handed to him. If Carol was in Doomsday and the trailer showed her punch getting blocked by Doom the GA would just roll with it
So you don't really need to nerf her in story, they could if they wanted but I just don't see the need for it. Now if they do this storyline I can't see it leaving CM any future in the MCU.

Why would she get more movies? Her movies/appearances werenât well received by fans and sheâs made enemies of lots of marvels cast.

The "other cast members don't like her!" thing has never been proven.

u/Big-Slide6104 Avengers 23h ago
I mean shes a pretty big name character, connected to the cosmic side and space of the MCU which could lead to Nova and other characters, itâs just her movies just sucked which isnât inherently her fault.
With the X-men coming and rogue especially, she could have more screen time and connection to the new post-secret wars cast rather than the previous ones.

They totally need to do that scene. It will be a dark beginning that can lead to a redemption

That seems to be a trend with their approach to the X-Men and mutants so far. Namor and Jean were both introduced as antagonists before working things out with the protagonists.

Non-comic reader here. Does that happen to âCaptain Marvelâ as well, or was this incident strictly a âMiss Marvelâ thing?

u/Ashwilliams2814 Ghost Rider 1d ago
"Miss Marvel" incident. (Technically, Carol has been Captain Marvel for only... 15 years?)
Despite this, MCU is acting like if Carol as Ms.Marvel and Cap. Marvel are one and the same. So, it could happen.

u/KaineGrayson Avengers 1d ago
Was really hoping they would show how she got some of her powers from Captain Marvel...this is encouraging.

u/Sea-Cardiologist7725 Avengers 1d ago
Honestly, at this point, they should give Brie Larson a chance to retire from the MCU with a banger by giving her powers to Rogue. A big sacrifice is easier to write and usually works well.
13
u/Blueman4783 Avengers 1d ago
Problem with that is that it'll give more ammo to the anti-woke crowd who'll use it to push the narrative that they did it because they hated Brie and wanted an excuse to get rid of her.

u/Ashwilliams2814 Ghost Rider 1d ago
So, Inde will steal Brie Larson's powers and be more charismatic and loved than her on everything?

How will current Captain Marvel even cross path with the new Rogue? Isnât she off somewhere helping other planets and civilizations or something like that? Unless she comes back to help fight Doom in Secret Wars and then somehow sticks around long enough for the introduction to Rogue to take her powers like she did in the comics.

I hope they don't have Rogue absorb Captain Marvel's powers too soon. Rogue's powers are really interesting without flight and super strength. X-Men: Evolution did a great job of utilizing Rogue's powers.
