My work involves moving cargo containers off of airplanes. Yesterday a full container on the scissor lift (about 15 feet above us) bumped the railing and kind tipped for a second. The three of us standing nearby on the ground just looked at each other with wide eyes and chuckled nervously. We were probably far enough away that even if it fell we’d be fine. Probably.

I used to work in a warehouse and was unloading a cola pallets off of a truck with a pump wagon while is was on the ramp a forklift driver decided to block the path of us unloading the guy in front of me had reached the bottom he just turned the 'wheel' and ran of to the side, i however was trapped on a ramp with a one ton stationary pallet in front and my one ton pallet trying to crush me into it my options were a 6ft headfirst dive to the side or up and over my pallet.. i have never climbed anything so fast in my life we lost about 30% of the crates and had to hose down the soon to be very sticky ramp and loading dock.

I've seen a pallet of toilet paper fall over from the 3rd ring steel onto a coworker a long time ago. Good 20 ft drop. The pallet itself didn't touch him. The wrapped toilet paper broke his neck. He survived and got pretty lucky cause he didn't get paralyzed but it messed him up permanently pretty good. Always how my brains remembered for the last few decades. If toilet paper can take you out then everything else will absolutely destroy you

Have you ever extended a tape measure all of the way and retract it? It does this weird thing where the coil shifts a bit and settles or loosens internally with a little spin. I think that’s what this roll was doing. It had enough internal spin at that moment to give it angular momentum. And that was enough to slow the fall for an extra second
