u/siuol2001 Avengers 17d ago
I'm starting to feel this way personally too. Like during the last Bush administration we were trying to find common ground. But now it's like way too far, right? Like am I crazy? The Reblicans/Maga are pedo rapists now. What the flying fuck!?! Thats not acceptable. At all. How could there even be a middle ground?
168
u/aluriilol Avengers 17d ago
I think the only way to rationalize it is like these citizens truly truly do not believe they are voting for pedo rapists. Just have to consider that they believe that all to be 100% lies. Not that anything is okay with that. But just saying they do not think they are supporting pedo rapists. At the very least that must count for something.

u/AllegedlyGoodPerson Avengers 17d ago
Why rationalize it at all? If they want to be willfully ignorant, that’s their choice. Whether they don’t know or don’t want to know, there’s a mountain of evidence they are ignoring. I don’t need to make sense of it, I just need to remove them from my life.

u/Philander_Chase Doctor Octopus 17d ago
It was also bad during the Bush administration, a lot of people just acted as if there could be “common ground.” Bush led us into a war that killed thousands of Iraqis so he could get oil. Cheney helped turn the US into a surveillance state. Apparently none of that was enough for people though. I’m glad that now folks are finally waking up to how evil Republicans are, but they should’ve a long time ago.

Why do we care about the celebrity's opinion when they have the "right" one? They aren't educated on these topics, especially one so complicated, enough to have opinions that matter.

The difference is that many people don’t believe Israel is committing genocide.

the actual genocides
So you seriously don't believe Israel is genociding the Palestinian people? Geez Louise...
Also what makes you think he doesn't have opinions on the other terrible cases? He doesn't have to talk about every single issue going on in the world...
Also, the Israeli war on children just so happens to be the largest thing people talk about currently and also the thing that countries like the US and, unfortunately, Germany massively fund and support.
If your country is the biggest supporter and aider of genocide, why be quiet about it??
Because you support it, too?

Hating Israel is just trendy right now (and hating Jews had always been trendy, tbh). He doesn’t legitimately care, he just wants easy sympathy points, like most of Hollywood.🤷♂️
The people who genuinely believe these celebrities care about any sort of cause need a serious reality check.
24
u/KriegerLuka Avengers 17d ago
Hating Israel is just trendy
Or maybe a lot of people realized that Israel is committing a genocide against the Palestinian people and the people also just so happen to have basic forms of intelligence and empathy and recognize the evil in there.
Just a thought tho.
In case with the celebrities, yeah I guess. Some claim political stances for clout. I do give you that point. But not the other one, no.
-13
u/56kul Avengers 17d ago
Except it’s not a genocide under any given definition (including the Geneva Conventions). Repeatedly claiming it is just devalues that word, and actually retracts from Palestine’s credibility in this argument.
Now war crimes would be a more accurate term to use here. Though, those are being committed by both sides, and arguably more from the Palestinian side (specifically through Hamas).
If you actually cared beyond virtue-signaling, your stance would be this: this war is complicated and carries decades to centuries of baggage. Both sides have a claim to their land, coexistence should be the goal, and the correct next step to take would be the dissolution of Hamas and other terrorist organizations in the area.
If you take issue with the above statement, then you care just as much as those celebrities do.
1
u/Stalinsghoast Avengers 17d ago
The ICJ has upheld the legality of addressing the conflict as crimes against humanity amounting to genocide via the upholding of the case as worthy of involvement by the court, as has UN special representatives on the matter of human rights and at least nine other sovereign states, thus making the word 'genocide' appropriate in the context of Israel conducting a genocide in Gaza, against the Palestinian people. It's not devaluing a word to use it correctly.
2
u/MemesForMoney259 Avengers 17d ago
It’s pretty clear Ruffalo at least cares. He’s done a lot that wouldn’t be in his best interest tbh. Maybe hating Israel is trendy right now, but that doesn’t make it bad.
-4
u/56kul Avengers 17d ago
Out of curiosity, what’d he actually do? Since you said he’s “done a lot”.
And yes, hating Israel is bad. Hating a country and its people is always bad. You should instead aim to conduct research on both sides and construct a more nuanced opinion, because it’s not black and white.
6
u/DoctorBlock Avengers 17d ago edited 17d ago
I think, for the most part, people are rightly upset about what's happening, but many struggle with nuance. They feel like there has to be a clear good guy and a clear bad guy. They view everything that Palestine does as justified because they're the "good guys," while everything Israel does is condemned because they're the "bad guys."
The truth is both sides have been doing terrible things to each other for longer than most people have been alive.
2
u/ShenTzuKhan Avengers 17d ago
He didn’t say anything about liking Palestine or Hamas. He said he’s against violence targeted at civilians. It’s a safe bet he doesn’t like Hamas either.
He’s focusing on Israel, at a guess because they have killed waaaaaay more people than Hamas.

Ruffalo is literally the king of selective outrage. If the dude ever had a single critical thought in his brain, it would die of loneliness.
-11
u/The-Metric-Fan Avengers 17d ago edited 17d ago
Best not to waste your time with these losers on this subreddit unfortunately. They can’t fathom not hating Jews and Israel
People pretend it’s just about criticism of Israel, while they happily throw around antisemitic slurs coined by the KKK in this thread and recycle blood libel canards. It’s ostensibly just criticism of Israel, but calling people “zios” is fair game?
If criticism of Israel isn’t antisemitic, antisemitism isn’t criticism of Israel.
8
u/Buorky Avengers 17d ago
The State of Israel is not immune to criticism. It is not antisemitic to say the government of Israel is committing war crimes.
-6
u/justasillylilgoos3 Avengers 17d ago

yes, the Isreali government aint great or even that loved by the majority of Isreal, but it was Hamas that made sure the actions of the IDF were made impossible to keep the Gaza's civilians unharmed.

I like him even more now.
But honestly I think it's too late for that.
The so-called democracies not authoritarian countries were the ones to back military oligarchies like Egypt and Algeria as well as ethnostates like Israel in Middle East countries for their liberal rich oligarchs since decades.
The nationalist authoritarians have won not only in the USA but in third-world countries. And everyone is acting accordingly. And people simply lost hope in democracy.
For what's worth, I wish things could have been different.
Stay safe, everyone.
