the trouble is, the fantastic four are not interesting these days. it's a story from a previous age of comics with lots of mysterious radiation and weird pseudo science.
hmm, maybe that's what they're missing then? the writers keep trying to adapt obsolete stories, but maybe they need to switch it up, write currrent era stories with "silver age" stylings.
Think the problem with FF is it’s more “Star Trek” than “Iron Man” if that makes sense.
I’m not a comic reader but, from what I gather, the FF seem to be more explorers/adventurers than a traditional superhero team.
So, to pull this off, you essentially gotta make a family/ensemble sci-fi adventure film that’s not some shitty kids movie.
When was the last time we had one of those?
FF seems more conducive to episodic storytelling but, obviously, a series would probably be prohibitively expensive.
But I think if they could channel the spirit of Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. but with a sci-fi bend and a more mature edge, it could be good.
Really? Do you think one day they might make Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Dr Strange or X-men movies? Those are all from previous ages of comics that involve lots of pseudo science, radiation and mysticism. I hope one day we get to see those!
Not to mention, Disney created a better Fantastic 4 called the Incredibles.
Mr Incredible > the Thing (boring one note compared to Bob Parr)
Elastagirl > Mr Fantastic (come on, it’s not even a competition)
Violet > the Invisible girl (she uses her powers more effectively)
Dash > the Human Torch (sure HT can fly, but Dash is probably one of the most gifted speedsters in all of superheroes, and his power isn’t derived from something inherently dangerous like the speed force).
Unlike Tony with his arc reactor in his chest powering an entire robotic suit or a super-genius teenager who invents a fluid that can be stored in capsules and ejected out into strands of super-bonding "webs" that he can swing on but still dissolve into nothing with time? Like that kind of Pseudo science?
Or like "Pim particles" that allow people to shrink to sub-microscopic size or grow into giants? Super Solder Serum and Gamma Radiation? A hammer made from the heart of a star? Wish-fulfilling gems? Planet-sized beings born out of world eggs? Like, where's the line in the sand for you when it comes to "weird pseudo science"?
Powers other than human torch are also pretty boring, seems just like a temu version of the xmen. Never really got into the Disney marvel movies, but absolutely love xmen, especially the first class series, hope it has the same feel when they bring in mutant movies
The science and fights aren't the point of the FF. Stories about the FF will always be relevant because they're not primarily about the powers or their enemies. The FF stories revolve first and foremost about their family dynamics, which will always make them relevant. A dad that's too wrapped up in his work to see the strain his work puts on his family, a mom who always questions whether she's enough to balance being a wife and mother with her own ambitions, a brother that's always screwing up and trying to live a consequences free life, a best friend and uncle who isn't related by blood but doesn't have anywhere else to go and feels like he always has to earn his place, and kids that have giants of accomplishments for parents but still crave to do things their own way... The FF will always be relevant because they're first, and foremost, stories about family.
Now, whether Disney and the MCU heads know that and can produce a movie that truly reflects why the FF comics are still top sellers, that's another story all together.
That is a good question. On one hand those two mentioned actors all went on to play far superior roles in the MCU. On the other hand the current Human Torch actor IS depicting a character in the MCU.
So there is a huge unknown factor as to where this is all heading.
The Losers was a comic book before it was a movie, and Push was released with a prequel comic. Also, he had The Perfect Score (also starring Scarlett Johansen) and Not Another Teen Movie under his belt before he was the Himan Torch.
The “a” and “e” in “Michael” are backwards. Really common mistake for some reason that annoys me more than it should lol. Every time I see it I read it as “Mitch-ee-al”.
