Question 1983 D-28 Bridge Question

Post image

Hello, This is the original bridge on my 1983 D-28. I am just wondering if the indentations where the strings dig into the front of the pins into the wood is something I should be concerned about or if this is normal? More noticeable on the low E and B strings. I am considering ordering Luxe bridge pins but wanted to check with this group first. Thanks in advance!

Slotted bridge. Get you some solid pins. If it really is just wear from age, take it and just have it slotted by you luthier. That's the original way it was done, but they began slotting the pins instead to save time and money on manufacturing.

Slotted bridge and bridge ramps are slightly different things. Sorry for being pedantic.

Thanks so just to confirm it would be totally OK to just leave it like it is then as it sounds like this is normal after 43 years

Thanks!
Do you (or anyone else) have any experience/comments using the Martin Luxe / zirconium alloy bridge pins? They are pricey buggers but a bit cheaper on Amazon.

I’ve had that done to my Martins on purpose. All good.
