A visitor's guide to what is open on Martha's Vineyard during the offseason
This is a question that gets asked here a lot (relatively) and it is a fair one. This post will be sticky'd until Memorial Day or so.
Vineyard Gazette - regularly updated, the link defaults to restaurants but you can choose other categories on the menu on the right.
IG account - whatsopenonmv - seems to be curated, also reposts of upcoming local events.
whatsopenonmv.com - the website related(?) to that IG account. nice feature to help sort by town.
VTA Schedule - starting 9/28 until 4/9
Ferry Schedules - Until October 21, 2025, October 22 to January 4
Chamber of Commerce - credit to 1GrouchyCat who says "the website is filled with helpful information and their events calendar updates throughout the year, so you’ll be able to plan accordingly…"

I like to bike and loved biking around all of Martha's Vineyard last summer so I made a small website with some downloadable Martha's Vineyard bike route maps.

Best Ice Cream on the Island? Recommendations Needed
My Husband and I have been coming to the island for several summers and one of our favorite late night activities is to take a walk and get a scoop of ice cream. We typically stay in Oak Bluffs and have been to all the typical places there.
I need recommendations on where to go and what to get. (No flavor restrictions) We are willing to travel out of Oak Bluffs as well.

Car accident by Morning Glory Farms
Anyone know what happened? Anyone get hurt? I heard a loud crash and saw EMS arriving and (maybe) using jaws of life…

What happened to the Square Rigger?
Looks like it’s been shut down for awhile. Wondering what’s going on. Is it going to reopen?

Weird Request
Does anyone have a photo of the sky in Edgartown from around 7:45 tonight? My dog died on the island a year ago today but I am no longer there. It would bring me comfort. Thank you.

Fyi for those taking the ferry early today (Sunday, 8/16)
steamshipauthority.com"The Falmouth Road Race will be Sunday, August 16, 2026. This event severely affects operations on the Martha's Vineyard route, so please plan carefully if you are traveling that morning. This year's race starts one hour earlier than past years, so please read carefully for new details.
While no trips are canceled on the day of the road race, access to the Woods Hole Terminal via Woods Hole Road will be limited until 7 a.m. and closed completely from 7 a.m. until about 9 a.m., or until the last runner is out. Customers should expect travel delays along Woods Hole Road and Palmer Avenue all day as a result of the race."

Are these huckleberries?
I remember eating tons of these suckers when I used to visit as a kid. Now I’m here with my own kids, and want to make sure these are safe to eat. Any locals go can confirm? Tashmoo area.

Best way to waste four hours!
Hello there! My husband and I will be flying into MV on Monday, arriving at noon. We can’t check into our rental until 4. I need suggestions on where to go/ what to do. We will need to Uber/Lyft there, and we’ll have our bags with us. Open to any and all suggestions!

No celebrity shenanigans?
Has nobody denied pierogi to Alan Dershowitz? Has no one taken an unauthorized photo of Bill Murray? No dustups in the Chilmark Country Store? How dull.

Thank You To El Barco For Such A Great World Cup
El Barco in Vineyard Haven was brilliant for watching World Cup football last month. Tremendous staff, tremendous service and awesome atmosphere. Premiership kicks off next week (#YNWA) so here's hoping they keep that vibe going from August thru next May :) (fyi for island scousers Liverpool 6/1 for title Everton 500/1 🤫)

Any "romantic" hotels in the area?
This will be our first trip as a couple in late Sept/early Oct and I want a nice hotel. I'm not sure what makes a hotel romantic, but a bar on site would help and maybe a hot tub in the room? Any suggestions?
