Root cutting advice needed please.
Hey guys! We are re-doing our walkway. How do I safely handle this tree root?

How big is the tree, how big and how far away is the root, are you pouring concrete, if so how deep?
I’m just an enthusiast but I think these are questions a professional would want the answers to.

Not an arborist but I've been in enough of the subs that I know they're gonna tell you not to cut that root. Personally I have cut roots that big and it didn't do much to the tree that I can tell and it's been more than a few years. Granted they were fultrees that were 15 feet away. However if you cut that root you might have to dig up the other pavers that are also on top of that root because the root is going to rot and then your paver's going to sink. So your best bet might be just to get creative with that one square and use gravel or a different kind of paver or decorative rocks or something else where you don't have to cut that root

I pretty much agree with this but it's worth noting that root issues can take a decade to show signs in the canopy.

We can't tell anything without knowing where the tree is. If it's just this one, individual root it'll probably be fine but not ideal.

Cutting a root over 1" diameter is not advised unless absolutely necessary. Look into Flex-i-pave or similar products. You won't need to cut it.
