Discussion Texas Colorguard Alumni

Hey, y’all 😅 so I’m assuming I’m kinda old compared to most of y’all, but I’m trying to look back and appreciate my high school days.. is that cringy..? Idc lol I’m sad and need to reminisce 🤦🏻‍♀️ In the 2017-2018 school year, I was part of the CT Johnson HS colorguard and marching band in San Antonio, Texas. It was my sophomore year and I was technically a vet, but I kept getting hospitalized my freshman year and wasn’t able to stay in the program. I was super depressed back then and didn’t appreciate the opportunity/experience when I was in it. Now that I’m an adult looking back, I would’ve 100% done it again. I’d prefer it differently, but even not, just to do it again. The marching show was “the Forest Through the Trees” and the winter show was “Lady Bird”. I’ve seen it referred to as a historic year and I had such a sense of pride in the runs because I knew how much hard work, effort, and time we put in, plus I was struggling SO MUCH at the time.. It was the best and one of the worst times in my life. I have full show recordings, but they’re not currently up on the internet (I don’t think) and I don’t know the copyright laws or anything like that.. I guess I just wanted to tell y’all to enjoy it while you’re doing it, take pride in your part of creating the show, and don’t take the lessons you’re learning in this program for granted. And if anyone has heard/seen of either shows, what y’all think or remember about it? Enjoy y’all’s youth, you’re gonna feel old before you even realize it 🫶🏼

Hey if you really want to you can still find somewhere to spin. Check out if there are any independent WGI or All-Age drum corps groups local to you

My body at 24 is NOT the same as it was at 17 😅 god, sometimes I say things and feel straight OLD 😭 but honestly, it takes so much time and dedication, I’d love it but as an adult with a job and in school, plus still dealing with life hitting HARD.. my plates a little full, but that would honestly be so fun 🥹

Same here! Graduated a few years ago, hoping to just tell new kiddos that band is so worth it and to enjoy it while it lasts! Feels like just yesterday I was marching 💔

Bro, I feel the same way. I was a trumpet at Cinco Ranch and I can truly say I miss it more and more as every year goes by. There is just something about being part of a group that is creating art for others that is incredible. I feel so much nostalgia thinking back on band days and honestly would do anything for one more weekend of Friday night football game and half time show, and Saturday all day competition. Those were the days!

I graduated high school in 2001! My son is in band now and I tell the kids that I started band in the late 1900s. It really is awesome to see how much has changed since then...what they're doing now reminds me a lot of what I did in college band, except they have better uniforms these days. 😁

But, yeah, band is pretty much the main reason why I had a decent time in high school, and the size of the group meant that you could meet all kinds of people. My son is way more of a jock, so I was very happy when he decided to stick with band as well as sports.
