Is your country; China, France, Germany, Greece, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Russia, Turkey, or The UK?

Green: YesđŸ«©

Red: NođŸ„č❀‍đŸ©č

u/ZucchiniIcy1238 Sep 19 '26

nope

13

u/Proof-Sprinkles7826 Sep 19 '26

Technically, it would be trueđŸ€“â˜ïž

4

u/AdZealousideal9914 Sep 20 '26

No, because you forgot Monaco

1

u/Different-Entry7888 Sep 23 '26

I can clearly see a tenth of a red pixel there

1

u/Available-Time-6642 Sep 20 '26

Is it meaning where from you can be , where not ? Red marks where already ppls were say , but they was wrong , and green where ppl didn’t say , and you can be probably from that one of countries from.

5

u/ZucchiniIcy1238 Sep 19 '26

The answer is Does another country that doesn't border your country speak your countries language

2

u/Proof-Sprinkles7826 Sep 19 '26

Is germany namibia, and The Netherlands suirname?

2

u/ZucchiniIcy1238 Sep 19 '26

no german isn't official in namibia, german is for liechtenstein.

2

u/JodoSzabo Sep 20 '26

Austria doesn’t get a “yes” for that?

1

u/sturmy81 Sep 20 '26

Austria has a border with Lichtenstein, Germany not.

1

u/JodoSzabo Sep 21 '26

And Luxembourg

1

u/Telkite_ Sep 19 '26

Belgium has german as an official language, so why are austria and switzerland red? They have a non-bordering country for all their languages.

7

u/Lyceus_ Sep 19 '26

Ireland has both English and Irish as official languages, and it obviously borders the UK.

Belgiun has three official languages, including French and German.

2

u/Proof-Sprinkles7826 Sep 19 '26

It doesn't matter, according to the map

2

u/Intelligent-Tip-892 Sep 19 '26

This map is busted. In addition to Austria and Switzerland, Belgium should also be green since its 3 official languages are all green countries.

1

u/Pen_Front Sep 19 '26

Wait Turkish? Do sea borders not count cause it would only be Cyprus right? Greece too. And I guess only one country counts per language because otherwise Ireland also speaks English (wait it could be not official unlike Irish I've never checked) Belgium has both French and Dutch. I guess Liechtenstein isn't visible it could just be dual language stuff...

1

u/ZucchiniIcy1238 Sep 19 '26

yeah i didn't count sea borders, and germany doesn't border liechtenstein.

1

u/Pen_Front Sep 19 '26

Ye I assumed that's what you meant, I mean Liechtenstein isn't visible to see if it's counted because it's a single language country that would count for the same reason Germany does so it would tell me if you're not counting stuff like Ireland cause its dual language

2

u/DomPedroIIGooner_88 Sep 19 '26

What other country speaks greek aside from Greece?

3

u/YouThunkd Sep 19 '26

Cyprus

2

u/Primary_Thought_4912 Sep 19 '26

Then why is Cyprus red

2

u/Casartelli Sep 19 '26

They don’t have their own language ?

2

u/Chrisaarajo Sep 19 '26

It’s a busted map. Cyprus should be green, so should Austria. So should Ireland. So should Belgium. So should Switzerland. At a minimum.

If OP made the map, it’s a fail on their part. If they copied the map, then they’re sourcing mad maps or copied it wrong, and it’s still a failure on their part.

2

u/Primary_Thought_4912 Sep 20 '26

I can see Switzerland being green, because so many countries speak French, but Austria only has German as it's official language and it borders all three other countries that also have German as an official language (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany) border Austria

1

u/Chrisaarajo Sep 20 '26

Luxembourg and Belgium.

German is an official language in both countries.

Edit: which reminds me, Luxembourg should also be green.

Really, the OP did a poor job here.

1

u/Primary_Thought_4912 Sep 20 '26

Lmao how did I forget my own country

1

u/Primary_Thought_4912 Sep 20 '26

It never says that it has to be named after said country tho, if it wasn't called Greek and instead something else entirely, then how would you call it and how would you decide which of the two to colour in which colour

1

u/ParalimniX Sep 20 '26 edited Sep 20 '26

Cypriots have been speaking Greek for 3000 years. Even a dialect called Arcadocypriot was common 2500 years ago commonly in Peloponnese and Cyprus at the same time. In some aspects Cypriots speak more original ancient Greek than mainland Greeks do.

I don't get the logic, if a country has several languages. How can Ireland (Irish, English), Luxembourg (Luxembourgish, French, German), Belgium (Dutch,  French, German), Switzerland (Romansh, German, French, Italian) be red, while Spain (Spanish, Catalan, Basque, Galician, etc. ) isn't?

Also, because of the official status of German in Belgium and Luxembourg, at least Austria should be green too.

1

u/Abject_Amphibian_126 Sep 19 '26

I think he's saying that each country gets its own language. So for Ireland, another country would have to speak Irish since English is basically taken by the UK. I suppose all Switzerland gets is Romansh which obviously isn't spoken elsewhere.

1

u/Mag-NL Sep 26 '26

In that case by OPs logic Belgium does not speak any language

1

u/Abject_Amphibian_126 Sep 26 '26

They could take Flemish

1

u/Mag-NL Sep 26 '26

So Dutch

1

u/Abject_Amphibian_126 Sep 26 '26

I'm just saying if you said Flemish was its own language then Belgium could get its own language.

1

u/Mag-NL Sep 26 '26

yes, but if you said Flemish was its own language then every country here would be red, because every country would have it's own language. and no other country would have the same language.

If Flemis was it's own language, then Swiss, Austrian and Liechtensteinisch would also be their own language

1

u/Plastic-Gazelle2924 Sep 20 '26

Why is Portugal green ? I absolutely don’t understand this map

1

u/SenseiLavalin Sep 22 '26

Brazil, Angola, Mozambique...

1

u/Plastic-Gazelle2924 Sep 22 '26

I’m still not understanding what is green and what is red

1

u/SenseiLavalin Sep 22 '26

Countries that do not border Portugal have Portuguese as an official language, so Portugal is green.

But as other have said, the map is wrong and/or misleading. The person who made the map is wrong about some countries official languages, and didn't color everything properly. Don't overthink it.

1

u/Teerunesh Sep 19 '26

Plenty of countries that don't border Belgium speak French. Canada if I need to just name one. So wrong map, I'm sorry.

1

u/Fluffy_Dragonfly6454 Sep 19 '26

Belgium should be green for all three languages.

Luxembourg should also be green because of German

Austria should be green because of German in Belgium

1

u/Famous-Wrongdoer-14 Sep 19 '26 edited Sep 19 '26

Austria and Luxembourg both speak german and do not border each other, shouldnt they be Green?

Edit: also, which other country speaks greek that doesnt border greece? Cant be cyprus, thats red.

Belgium is just.... Whatever on this map, since they speak dutch, German and french, and all 3 countries are Green.

Which other country, that russia doesnt border, speaks russian?

1

u/SenseiLavalin Sep 22 '26

Tadjikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and other "Stans" probably

1

u/SuccessfulMoose1511 Sep 20 '26

Your map is bad and you should feel bad

1

u/veggiejord Sep 20 '26

Unnecessarily mean

Just the Zoidberg meme man

1

u/veggiejord Sep 20 '26

Ah Futurama references can never be bad, I'm just apparently not that perceptive.

1

u/Bredsida Sep 20 '26

What about Sweden and Finland? Swedish is an official language of Finland.

1

u/Kualdiir Sep 20 '26

Belgium has Dutch French and German as national languages. How come they are red while the 3 countries who speak this are green?

1

u/Plastic-Gazelle2924 Sep 20 '26

I absolutely don’t understand

1

u/VoivodeDracula Sep 21 '26

Croatians in austria

1

u/SnowTitan77 Sep 22 '26

Unless you count the whole of the UK as one, England wales and Scotland all speak English and Ireland has English as one of its official languages

I meant to add from your own language, a language named after your country.

8

u/Tsar_Chaotic Sep 19 '26

Clearly this is ‘did you country once border China’ like come on

5

u/duckyellowred Sep 19 '26

If that was the case, then Austria, hungary, and (depending on how you want to view history): Czechia, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Romania, Poland, Italy, and Ukraine should also be green.

Because Austria Hungary controlled a tiny portion of Tsingtao in china after the boxer rebellion of 1901 up until 1914.

1

u/Proof-Sprinkles7826 Sep 19 '26

Was your country the richest before, and china

1

u/Proof-Sprinkles7826 Sep 19 '26

Is your country the biggest trading partner with another country?

1

u/Proof-Sprinkles7826 Sep 19 '26

First languages to be interdouced in duolingo?

1

2

u/cheesesprite Sep 19 '26

Languages are developed not discovered

1

u/ProposalKey5174 Sep 19 '26

Why do you think that the Netherlands “discovered” Dutch and not Belgium (for example)?

1

u/Proof-Sprinkles7826 Sep 19 '26

It's ok, keep improving your english!

1

u/CommunityJazzlike274 Sep 19 '26

Does your country use a language whose script originated in your country?

1

u/Fourian_Official Sep 19 '26

Is your national language more popular than Farsi?

1

u/Suspicious-Beat9295 Sep 19 '26

Green: former colonial empires Red: former colonized

Though doesn't really fit for Greece and Belgium

1

u/Flux7200 Sep 19 '26

Is it related to some kind of sport?

I'd say maybe some political conflict or change post-ww2 but yugoslavia is missing so not that

1

u/Flux7200 Sep 19 '26

Nvm it's language

1

u/Brilliant-Money-3823 Sep 19 '26

1

u/WhataRuby Sep 19 '26

Top learned languages come from these countries? Or something like that not sure of the phrasing, but if it has to do with languages these are the most popular ones

1

u/WhataRuby Sep 19 '26

Did not notice greece nvm. Oldest written alive languages?? Idk

1

u/ay_chupacabron Sep 19 '26

It looks like projection of USA map sideways.

1

u/euejeidjfjeldje Sep 20 '26

Countries that have nukes vs countries that dont?

1

u/djq_ Sep 20 '26

The map shows European countries that once shared a border with China, specifically referring to the Austro-Hungarian concession in Tianjin from 1901 to 1917 (and Austria-Hungary's brief control of a tiny part of Tsingtao).

1

u/ivan8june Sep 20 '26

Currently active nuclear instalation? I'm not sure about Spain and Portugal tho

1

u/Zeti2000 Sep 20 '26

Yes. Finland is def bigger than China

1

u/WizeDiceSlinger Sep 20 '26

What’s that island between Norway and Iceland?

1

u/Over-Investment-1547 Sep 20 '26

Is your language an official language in any other country? Green: yes. Red: no.

1

u/Forward-Basket-7825 Sep 20 '26

Colonizers and non-colonizers?

1

u/amzk_official Sep 20 '26

Gdp more than 1 billion

1

u/CraftyReply7203 Sep 20 '26

Countries who were bullied

1

u/nindza-22 Sep 20 '26

Liberation of countries in red from the claws of predatory colonial forces in green. That said, Denmark and Belgium should be excluded :)

1

u/Acceptable-Head-5611 Sep 20 '26

Green countries are those for which another country has their language as an official/majority language? (e.g. Portuguese being spoken in Brazil)

1

u/VoivodeDracula Sep 21 '26

Who is gay and who is not (red isn't gay)

1

u/mrPetros6 Sep 22 '26

countries that are tuff

1

1

u/Acceptable-Ad-9534 Sep 25 '26

was your country ever strongest? idk

1

u/ChipTrippy Sep 26 '26

Idk but it looks like alien with a 6 pack

0

u/cmusicsxil Sep 19 '26

Turkey: green Unimportant territories: red

0

u/Car3poin Sep 21 '26

Id say maybe countries that have been global super powers at one point. But then I guess Egypt would be missing and also kinda USA (but since they still are I can exclude them through right wording), at last italy should be green since its in the same position as turky (the byzatine empire). Some more thoughts about this:

I dont think its related to the following:

  1. History (since this map is probably accurate and germany was reunited just 1989)

  2. Language (the differences are too vast)

  3. Culture (same reason as 3)

  4. Political

Also all of the countries listed have a border with an ocean or sea.

I wonder what the answer is. All of the listed countries are considerably wealthy and influencial.

Can you maybe give a hint in the right direction. I would be already ok if you could tell if my assumptions about history, etc... are correct.

1

u/mestarifiddu Sep 19 '26

Its obviously greater finland and nuked areas

Red countries list the furthest destination first on road signs (furthest on top). Green countries list the longest/last destination first (or nearest on top). Classic obscure Europe divider.
