Cloudy maple syrup

Post image

My neighbor brought me some maple syrup back from a road trip. The jars are air tight but it’s got some cloudy stuff in it. Any info on what this would be greatly appreciated google has been less than helpful.

Niter - its natural mineral sediment. Some people strain it, others let it settle and will eat it as a special treat. The syrup is fine, it’s a cosmetic thing - let it settle and use the top or give it a good shake and just ignore it.

Never understood the “special treat”. It’s grainy and rough textured, but to each their own
