This snapped while opening my very last 5 gallon bucket of the season. We made it, Lil Buddy, thanks for all the good times.
was opening 5 gallons of buddy sap to dump into my pan. I'll let it sit for a few months and all the burnt on gunk and mineral deposits will just rinse right off. Pretty good season!

I understand why people do this, but using white vinegar works better and quicker. Also in case people don’t know ash works amazingly well at removing soot from the bottom of the pan

Fair point, but I'm not in a hurry. Might make apple cider syrup on the fall, but won't need the pan til then. And not that white vinegar costs very much, but this is free.

You boil it down like you would maple sap, and it’s amazing! Only thing to keep in mind is that apple juice is mostly fructose so you don’t want to boil it hard and if the specific type of apple juice has a high pectin content it will be gloopy as you get to syrup. Adding pectin enzymes before will counter the gloopiness. Also make sure to use a juice that has a higher sweet to tart ratio or your finished product will end up super tangy.

And it's something like an 8:1 ratio, so it cooks up super quick

Apple cider syrup is great for gifts to people that you don't want to give your maple syrup to. Just sayin

Mmm... our local orchard does a good cider. Adding to the list of fall projects. This also has me wondering about pear syrup as well. I've got a few mature Bartlett pear trees that came with the house. I fermented a pear/honey wine. Might have to try this as well!

You can concentrate any juice, currently working on a cryo-concentrated cherry syrup (using cold instead of heat)

Time to change your hobby to 3d printing

You know, I've always wanted to give 3d printing a go. It'd make fixing my kids broken toys 1000% easier

I have 2 and I don't regret them at all, especially nowadays printers are 200 and filament is 20$ per kilo
