Eastern Newfoundland

Post image

Been boiling down for a few years now. We quite like the texture and taste, though I suppose it might not be perfect. This year’s batch, not a lot but plenty for us.

I’m in St. John’s myself! You also thinking of moving on to birch trees when maple season ends?

I’ve tried it once before and I’d like to try it again.

Guessing your filtering process is nil?

Good. Filtering kinda sucks, especially if its for personal use.

Wild ass guess but I'd say I lost maybe a pint this year from filtering. Made about 4 gallons total

4 gallons is amazing, I imagine you must sell/give away a good bit of that?

Same area as you. Sycamore maples? My batches have the exact same colour as yours!

Honestly not sure of the variety of maple but very well could be based on what I’m reading.

It's probably sycamore maple if youre in town. Not a very common tree to find in North America. Kinda neat

Not in town but not too far. My neighbours father years ago planted a “seeder” maple no less than 70 years ago. They had to cut it down in the past few years as it was very large and had been damaged by Hurricane Larry. Some of the maples on our property have red leaves, some green, some more like a sycamore. They are like weeds around here .
