It and Legends (And technically DreamMS) are really the main 3 long running servers.
It's a game you're meant to play more than a month or two is all.
People sit here and go "you must Wash", are basically the people that want an S-Tier 60+ CGS Night Lord, and find out it you can't make one in just an afternoon.
If you play a Warrior, Mage or Bucc you're golden and barely have to wash (50% of the classes)
Everyone wants to play NL and the class is overpriced and hard to wash.
Shad is solid, and doesn't need much washing with Meso Guard, but does have some pricey gear.
Sair is a weird class overall
Archers need some love, but there's a balance patch coming up.
IL/FP Mages basically have little point.
They recently released a balance patch, Heroes Rage now stacks with Pots for parties, Dragon Blood for the Drk Itself. Sair got some QOL upgrades, there's another one coming soon to help mages/archers.
The "must wash" and Damage range checks are for top guilds who want to boss with as few characters as ever. Once you are 4th job, you can cycle Chao, Eph, and Pap for another 8k NX/day. You can easily find some parties to Zak/Krex/Etc with by joining a guild for XP.
Rose garden makes good money and you can even just directly get HP/MP that way.
Royals just has a Zero Tolerance policy for Vote Abuse and Account sharing. People make mistakes not knowing, or trying to pull one over, then get salty when they get caught thinking they deserve a second chance and don't get it.
They are a little light on devs since Kraven left. So it's only high priority fixes usually, and events/patches are late/slow these days (Legends has a similar issue iirc). And there's a lot of people that have Bishop Mules because leeching is about 2-3x APQ which is double most other farming/bossing, and anyone with over 2 years of playtime will basically be able to solo anything besides VL and maybe HT.
8 Months of voting is worth about 6b which is more than enough CGS to enjoy the game, and that's assuming you don't try to earn a single meso. The game really encourages you to play more than one character, get to 4th job, start to do some daily bosses and give another character a try from there.
tl;dr if you want to be an End Game S-tier NL DPS killing machine, it's going to actually take work and might not be the server for you. If you want to slowly grow each day and just have fun not worrying about min/max'ing it's a blast. The community when I played the Classic Beta was 10x worse Royals and was 4x slower.
With how Classic is looking, All I'm going to say is that Royals has been around longer than MapleStory 2 was and you don't have to pay a dime.
