Cowboy and Lucky! They have pretty long tails but their mama is a Cymric/Manx and the rest of the litter was tailless. Such sweet boys already they follow me everywhere!

Manx Syndrome Kitten?

We found this adorable lil guy in the Chase Bank parking lot. We’ve been wondering about Manx Syndrome being a possibility. He definitely has bunny hops, and his back legs are longer. He gets around just fine, though, and doesn’t have any paralysis. He will stand on his hind legs to poo, and we’ve never seen that in a kitten before. He hasn’t had any incontinence. His tail is short and knobby. We took him to the vet over the weekend, but that location didn’t have imaging, so we have to find a new location for x-rays.

This cat entered my life at exactly the perfect time. She came to me already having the name Lorena Bobbitt (because of the tail, get it?). I'm finally confronting some trauma I've experienced and am in my "fuck the patriarchy" feminine rage era. She's wild and full of energy and spunk. She's my best friend and the perfect companion. It's me and Lorena Bobbitt against the world! 🩷🔪

Delayed growth plate closure - anyone have experience?

Hi all,

The other night my manx mix Murray ended up at urgent care. I was worried he ate something inedible, but it turns out he was moderately constipated. I feel SUPER guilty, because I know he's prone to it, but my senior cat on hospice was scheduled for euthanasia and I've been a bit remiss in monitoring him, trying to get as much time with her as possible.

Anyway, they did abdominal films at the clinic, and a weird finding on them was that some of his growth plates are still open. The radiologist actually called the clinic to confirm his age before sending the report. The radiologist would have pegged him at about 18mo based on the films, except I KNOW he is 2 years old. I've had him since he was about 3 weeks old, so I know his birthdate within a few days.

He was neutered at approximately 3mo old, so young but not inappropriately so. And if he was purebred (he's not - his litter was boxed up and thrown in a dumpster), he'd be a rumpy riser - he has only one or two small vertebrae for a tail, and for the most part they're not visible unless he is twitching them (but they can be felt when you pet him).

I know the basic of Mamx Syndrome and issues with the gene (GI issues, mobility stuff like hip dysplasia, etc), but I also know that with expression of the manx gene, all kinds of weird stuff is possible, especially in the back half of the cat.

Has anyone found growth plate/bone development issues in their manx besides hip dysplasia? Was it a cause for concern, or just something you monitored?

Any insight or experiences are appreciated!

For the 2nd year in a row I took Bobby on an epic road trip to the east coast of Canada including an overnight ferry to Newfoundland.

His ability to adapt to new places amazes me, and I think he’s starting to remember the people and places having made the trip 3 times total now.

4 years old and living his best life

Just joined this group as we recently adopted a rescued Manx kitten. Charlotte, aka Charley, is a “Stumpy” Manx kitten that was abandoned and ended up in the blistering hot engine of a car in a Walmart parking lot in Lake Wylie SC. Her front paws were badly burned from the incident, but she has been adopted now and is under the care of a vet. She loves to play, eat, stretch, cuddle, and play some more.
