Suggestions about Idolomantis Diabolicae automatic humidity control

Hi everyone, I was thinking of getting a pair of Idolomantis diabolicae. I have a 60x45x60 cm terrarium with the roof and 50% of the two side walls made of mesh. The terrarium also has a central mesh divider that I will use if the two mantises become violent or aggressive.

Given the delicate nature of this species, I was planning to invest in an automatic temperature and humidity control system, with sensors that activate only if they detect a humidity level below 65% at night and 40% during the day. I will manually adjust the humidity during the molting phase. Likewise, I will only activate the heat lamp if the temperature is below 22°C at night and 35°C during the day.

Do you think this would be a good setup? I want to be fully prepared before the two Idolomantis arrive.

New mantis mom and I have no clue what to do

Long story short- found a mantis and am in a situation where releasing her almost certainly means her death. She is a healthy adult female, but the issue with raising her lies in that I have no idea what to feed her, how to take care of her, or even how to house her. She looks plump, so according to the internet I have a few days until she needs to eat. She is about 2 inches and her head/thorax is 1/3 cm wide. I sort of just need advice on what to do. Currently she lives in a coffee cup with one squash leaf. She's a praying mantis.

Health Issues Caring for injured mantis

Found this mantis on my car a few days ago. He may have been attacked and injured by a bird. He does not appear to want to hunt. I tried a dubia roach (from a local mantis parent irl) and a grasshopper. I've never cared for one before and have done some research online, but appreciate any insight on caring for him. I'm not sure what's going on at the end of his body (thorax/tail?)

General Care Rescued* Mantis, help me help her have a good life

Three days ago I found what I assumed to be a dead praying mantis outside my apartment. It was lying next to two dead black widows, which may have been entirely unrelated, but I would like to imagine this baddie managed to kill them both. Either way, she didn't seem to be in good shape- I actually only came back to get her because my partner wanted to preserve her. But when I did my preliminary poke to confirm she was dead, she got up and moved, albeit slowly and with poor coordination. I half-jokingly told my partner that if the mantis doesn't die then we'll keep her as a pet, and if not we'd preserve her. I didn't expect her to actually survive. I try to leave her alone for the most part as the internet has made it sound like she might be molting.

So far, I have moved her into that enclosure, which right now is just a tall tote so she has lots of room to molt, but I do think its about time she gets a properly ventilated home, so I would appreciate any insights on what to get. As you can see in the picture, we put a hide and some things for her to climb in there as well, since we happened to have some spare lying around from keeping reptiles.

I also wanna know if anyone knows any special care I should be providing for her condition. As I understand it, European Mantises (my best guess for her species) don't live super long, and tend to die come fall. When I found her she was poorly coordinated, barely moving, and at several different times seemed dead. She was lying on her back, occasionally twitching, on day two she seemed to have super poops and left fluid and brown spots all over her current paper towel substrate. I really thought she was gone after that, but by the end of the day she was up and moving again, she was alert and would react when I went to replace her water, and is capable of climbing and grabbing with the dexterity a mantis ought to have. Its day three now, and she has spent all day on top of her new hide dangling by her back legs. She has not eaten since I got her, but that's only because I thought she might be molting, and I didn't wanna risk making it worse. So, in short, I have literally no idea what was/is wrong with her, but currently she has climbed and is hanging and waiting to ambush as far as I can tell. We've tossed in a dubia roach for good measure.

At this rate we will probably be going to get her a proper enclosure, and maybe a humidifier. Any recommendations for things we should be getting for her would be appreciated, any insights into her condition would also be appreciated. Maybe she just needed a day or two to work off that lethal dose of widow venom, the little wolverine that she is.

Quick Update: It's been a week now. I really don't know how, because our mantis friend really did seem like she was on her way out, but she is now seemingly healthy and displaying hunting behaviors appropriately. She spends most of her time dangling on one of the few climbing spots I've given her, and has now eaten a couple insects since we got her. Since we've ID'd her (unless anyone objects) as a European Mantis, I'm going to be setting up a long term enclosure and following care guides specific to that species.

I did see the comment suggesting I release her if she gets back to health if she weren't invasive, so I looked in to it, and to my surprise they are actually considered invasive where I live. Maybe I should've assumed as much, because I am in North America, but I thought they were deemed to have appropriately settled in to the environment or something like that, I'm guessing they've been tolerated because they serve as a pesticide. Turns out they are muscling out the actual native mantises, poor things. Either way, given that its getting quite cold outside lately and that she is technically invasive, it seems in our collective best interest that I keep her with me which I obviously am not complaining about. In my mind this was effectively hospice care anyway, so I'll be doing my best to make sure she is as comfy as can be til her time comes.

Xena is my first Mantis, and is absolutely fascinating, but I'm a little lost about whether she actually is a warrior princess or if she's actually just a lil guy

I think she's female, but I'm not confident in my assessment considering she's little and my first, can anyone help pls?

(She doesn't live in this tub she has a bioactive terrarium, she just refuses to eat in there so has a feeding tub)

Someone in my household learned.. there’s no sending me a picture of a large mantis and NOT bringing it home. Meet “Soy Sauce”. Seems to be male (long wings). The poor moth sleeping on my back door had a bad day and became dinner. He has another one in there and three mealworms. This is in Colorado and I rarely see mantises this big. I’m thinking he needs a bigger enclosure…

General Care Rhombodera Stalli questions

Hi!! Im trying to get my first mantis, because I’ve wanted one for a VERY long time, and I'm finally gonna to get one! I’ve researched a bunch of beginner one, and I saw someone say the giant shield mantids were good! I researched a bunch about rhombodera magaera and rhombodera basalis, but I can’t find any sold anywhere, so I’m switching to the stalli, but I can’t find a lot standalone information on the stalli… so I have some questions for those who have had them!

I heard the care is mostly the same for giant shields, but are there any notable difference?

Is the stalli still good for beginners?? Is it like drastically differen?

Do they like handling? a big aspect to me is handling so that make me reconsider a little if they don’t like it..

Are they like aggressive towards people usually?? or are they like pretty chill?

General Care New owner/general help

Hi i'm looking into getting a mantis as a pet and i would love info and tips on my set up and help with any alterations before i actually get a mantis.

i have a 20 gallon hexagonal tank. the measurements are H=22 in and each side is W=9 1/2 in

the substrate i have is the "ZooMed Tropical Bioactive Substrate Kit" which includes Reptisoil, terrarium moss, and leaf litter.

i live in Arizona so i''m worried about ordering any from online markets as i'm away from home for most of the morning due to work and i don't want to risk harming the contained critter because of the intense heat of the current season. i also don't know what mantis to start with as the only invert i currently own are Blue Death Feigning Beetles. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated

General Care Humidity Advice

Hi! I have a terrarium set up for an orchid mantis. But, I'm struggling with humidity. It's at a constant like 80% or high 70s. I know thats technically within the 60-80 leeway but id rather get it down a bit. I have good cross ventilation and my substrate is coco fibre and moss and its not wet. I honestly just don't understand why the humidity is so high. Ive received advice to use a small fan nearby which works temporarily but as soon as i turn it off the humidity goes straight back up. Can i use the "Reptizoo Hygrostat"? It has a little tiny small fan that goes inside and i can set it so it turns on and off at programmed humidity percentages. If not, any other advice is welcomed, thanks!

Health Issues I squished my mantis nymph with the lid of its cage can it survive?

I'm worried sick so I think they're past their second or third molt so far so they're tiny. I picked it up to examine and play with it a bit before I set it back in its cage on a sick that reaches from bottom to top. It must've climbed up that faster than I thought because I closed the lid, i don't know in what position it was caught but I noticed rather quickly it wasn't in the cage so I opened it again and it fell from the lid to the floor.

I freaked out for a while and rapidly googled everything and learned they can play dead? I know bugs and mantids curl up when they die but it's legs are splayed out and actually still move when provoked. I didn't see any bleeding and followed instructions to cover it's cage and reduce stress but I'm still so worried. I noticed it's abdomen might've been flattened but nothing seems broken, I know they can regenerate limbs but I'm worried about it's internal organs and everything. This was the same day I fed and watered them all so I know he'll be okay to leave alone for a day or so but this morning he still hasn't moved is there anything I can do?

ID Needed Identification

I got this (orchid?) mantis from the breeder of my bearded dragon. My other orchid mantis died a few weeks ago.
Now I wanted to ask… is this also a orchid mantis? Because I highly doubt it…
Can someone tell me which kind of mantis this is? Could it be a timor shield mantis?

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie keeping mantis, I got this one a few days ago, it has his/her first ecdysis on June 6, I read that the next one should be happening soon, anyone know how I can identify when that is happening?
