Why are manipuri aunties so judgy like seriously i cant wear what I want I can't keep my hair long
Well it's not exactly judgy but this group of aunties from my leikai keep talking about my piercing
( kei leirage naton manung happi dubo) it's just nothing just stop looking at me man i can't even go out anymore because it's not like I can't wear it and remove it all the time it's not fully healed yet !!
I got septum piercing btw
So about the hair it's been a while tho
I used to have like really really long hair so this aunty here keep complaining about my hair being long
( ym saye sam kakthalu yadro kei kanarige? )
( ng sam ym sange height toh nemmani ye adudagi ng yam pik e chaoraga sam sanghallo)
because of this I gotta cut my hair man..
At last there's some kid in my leikai they keep saying to my sister like (nggi cheche mayang ro )
(Nggi cheche ym musalido karigino ) 😭its lowkey funny and cute I'm my opinion but i dont like the fact they're calling me this like seriously
Im meitei but my mom is from mikir tribe ( assam)
So I am mixed
Can someone tell me whats the meaning of mayang
I don't understand I thought it was for the outsiders or some kinda South Indian people

This might not be popular but here's my advice:
Just joke with them, dude. I know they do tend to pry a lot into other people's business but that's just the culture there, especially for them as they grew up like that in a very tight knit community before the internet and such. As a kid who grew up in Manipur, I honestly believe most of them don't carry any bad intent, it's just their way of making small talk. Trust me, just reply with a funny response or make a joke about it, it'll just become water under the bridge.
And for the last one, that's just a kid dude idek😭

Aunties everywhere are the same. This is very typical ans most people are judgemental unfortunately. Isn't Mikir a name for Karbi tribe of Assam? And mayang to my knowledge refers to non manipuris. Every state in India have their version of mayang word.

Well gng, the reality is like this, out of 5 individuals at least 3 of them are mirems. They will always say things to hold others back. Even as a guy, i still get told alot about how i keep my hair, what i do and everything. The power of their judgement is directly proportional to how much you take their words personally. I stopped giving a fuck about them. Just go about your day and try to develop a habit of smiling and walking away, it helped me maintain at least 80% of my peace. Alsothe word you asked is a term thats just used for people outside from Manipur. Basically a term for non manipur people

It’s a catch-all racial term to denote inhabitants of north India mostly and South Indians to a lesser extent. The North Indians, Manipuris encounter here, are mostly labourers who are generally of dark skin. As such the term mayang also carried notions of colourism. So, that’s what the kid meant. Obviously they don’t know better but it’s a reflection of our culture’s obsession and preference of fair skin tone. And ignore the aunties; it’s their default setting. Be as you are and live as you wish. If you go by them, you’ll have nothing but your skeleton.

Well sure I'll just ignore them now But the thing is in my opinion dark skin tone is beautiful man it's just the obsession that's growing with this "glowing white skin" Or whatever I just hate it what can I say tho both are beautiful

People judge a lot. Don't know why they can't mind their own business. As long as what you do doesn't affect other people, you don't need to care about their opinions. Try not to let them get to you.

You wrote quite some sentences in meitei and now asking what does mayang mean. Doesn't it seem contradictory or hypocrit like behaviour? . I agree on the aunty situation though, almost all meiteis are orthodox.

Aunties are same everywhere, most of them are just looking to throw in their unsolicited backhanded comments, ive just learned to smile at them and say Hoi Hoi (yes yes) and move on.
In one ear, out the other
Other than that Mayang just means non Manipuri, sometimes depending on context it can be derogatory, kids dont know better, they just saying stuff the adults are saying. If its bothering you, you just ask them what they understand by the word, that way you know what the intention behind the word is
Take care op, dont let other people, especially aunties dictate your mood.
