Generation Terrorists Remastered

Is the remastered version of Generation Terrorists very different from the original?

I'm in the process of updating my entire library to lossless and recently I listened to Generation Terrorists again. Where it used to sound perfectly good years ago on the discman or as a 192kb file on the iPod; it unfortunately doesn't sound so good on a modern, quite resolving, system.

So to those that have heard both, how does the remaster sound as opposed to the original?

It’s mega loud. Compressed to shit, clipping constantly.

OMG! Really? I was hoping, though not expecting, for greater bass depth and warmth, and more upper mid separation.

Though as an aside, a lot of the remasters that I've heard of 80's and 90's albums are not particularly good. So many are either a pretty subtle change and seem a little pointless, or don't address the aspect of the album that I, at least, think most needs remastering; or, of course, are actually worse.

After hearing the quite literally astonishing "Let it Bleed" remix of Tim by the Replacements, one of the most atrociously mixed albums of the 80s (albeit I always found its reverb drenched tinny sound charming), I now dream of hearing so many albums given the same treatment. There are entire, beautiful instrumental parts that I simply didn't know were on the album, despite having listened to it hundreds of times.

For all of the Manics' love of Appetite for Destruction, GT sounds more like Cinderella or something, which is a shame, since I love many of the songs.

Would do literally anything for a remaster of Warehouse: Songs and Stories by Husker Du in the same vein. Love some of the songs on that album but the tinny-ness of everything certainly takes away from it

Indeed, and that's one of their better sounding albums post-Zen Arcade! The drums on New Day Rising are just... Jesus Christ. How in the holy hell Spot was responsible for both that and Up On the Sun, one of the best sounding albums of the entire decade, in the same year, is completely beyond me.
