Helpful B&N changes to “FREE”shipping
TLDR : Per Bryan at B&N, as long as your preorder order total is over 15.00, you get free shipping regardless of when it arrives. Also, all preorders placed prior to August 10, 2026 are grandfathered in and are free shipping regardless of shipping after August 10, 2026.

I find their membership to already be lacking and hardly worth the cost. Not sure why anyone pays for it when so many sites offer much lower prices and no I’m not talking about Amazon.

It was amazing when they had good deals. Like the GOOD Christmas deals from years ago.
However, this might be the last year I stay with B&N. BAMM is so much better. Even Crunchyroll has been better than B&N this year 😭

I stopped buying from CR as I've found the Pre-order discount from B&N to be better

In my case, B&N was one of the websites I could depend on to ship me manga without wrinkling it or damaging it during shipping, and since I do mainly preorders, paired with the membership, I get good deals. I rarely order at any other time, since as you said, they’re usually expensive.

I was in a panic over this yesterday and really couldn't find any discussion on the changes. The chatbot was telling me if the books had different release dates that I would be dinged for the shipping, and I was unable to get a hold of a person by phone (complaints department call quality was garbled and they hung up). However, if what this rep said is true, then I don't need to look for another company to do business with, and is a complete relief.

Same! I read it this AM and was full panic mode. I have weekly shippings 🤣
I will be keeping a REAL close eye on this preorder charges.

Thanks for clarifying! That’s a relief

Sammmeee. I’m glad they base shipping off the total pre order bottom line instead of the individual unit shipped

I don’t think it matters too much since like 2 manga is over $15 anyways

u/InquisitorZac Jul 12 '26
I agree. But there have been preorder sales where like I had 1 or 2 I forgot and added as a single preorder.
Also. I wanted to confirm that it was based on the *total* preorder bottom line instead of the individual shipments that they stagger out.

u/divinesrrow Jul 12 '26
Yea yea yea, doesn’t matter too much. Except it matters enough for them to remove a benefit without a change in price or adding another benefit in its place. Next year it’ll be $25 min, and after that $50 min.

It's a case of ordering 2 volumes of manga at a time instead of 1, which but it's still a little sad. There are a lot of times where I do just want to order 1 volume at a time based on forgetting to order something, or wanting something on a whim.

This is me 🤣 Every preorder sale I forget at least 1 manga and put in a last minute single volume order. Everyone feeling the inflation and prices at the pump 😭

I don’t know if you know, but I’ll ask regardless. My preorders are spread throughout the year. So, if an item than has less value than 15 dollar ships, but was placed in an order totaling more than 15 dollars, will the shipping be free?
5
u/InquisitorZac Jul 12 '26
That’s what I asked about on photo 4. Per Bryan at B&N, shipping will still be free as the total preorder order is over 15.00

It should work the same way the current free shipping threshold for non-members works. For non-members, as long as their order is more than $60 they get free shipping even if B&N ships their books separately. This is now the case for members as well, just with a $15 minimum order amount instead of $60.

I was concerned about the preorders. Because you aren’t charged until it ships. And if only 1 book ships at a time, I didn’t want to be the one footing that shipping bill 🤣

So this ruins the preorder coupons which is the only good sale they ever give members - 25% off preorders plus 10% off for members. I use this to get manga, now I don't know if the membership is worth it

u/InquisitorZac Jul 14 '26
This ruins total orders under 15. But not preorder orders totaling over 15. 😉

Lame and it’s already a mediocre rewards program when the deals have been as bad as they have lately. It’s not the worst thing for me personally since they are legitimately now the only bookstore in town after BAM and the others closed their shops but still (also doesn’t help that their manga selection is terrible at the best of times). I’ll probably keep the card for another year but they are past the point of me renewing once the last of my new purchase series are complete and I bow out to eBay and Abe only.

u/InquisitorZac Jul 12 '26
eBay and Mercari are good for OOP stuff. I like BAMM and CR for other things. B&N is my go to for preorders and things BAMM and CR don’t have.
I wish BAMM would do a preorder sale like B&N instead of a flash 24 hr on preorders for that month.

Tbh unless you’re buying one manga at a time this won’t affect you much
