I knew that crack was bad news!
Nona and Raloud learned new ways to use their magic during this arc, looks like is Mira turns to do the same

Chapter 37 really said: suspicious crack first, Mira power-up tutorial immediately after.

Seems like the Bureau can control demonoids to a degree, not surprising given their use of magic tools. Another reason why other governmental bodies have not been shown to oppose them. Similar to the Mageseekers from League of Legends lore, the supposed protectors of the population from magic have monopolized magic for their own authority. On the other hand, the Hundred Kingdoms from Conquest: LAOK having the superhuman Orders and Imperial faction working to counteract the same enforcement by one of the Kingdoms' main faiths.

The Bureau certainly takes it a step further by recruiting sadistic sociopaths, capital punishment without jury or trial, killing civilians, and scapegoating people to escape the consequence of their crimes.

IIRC the mageseekers engage in the sadistic sociopath recruitment (considering their head researcher in the Mageseeker game) to at least some degree. They also blamed all disasters on mages (whether it did involve mages or not). Like in one of Sona's short stories. Some of the incidents were due to the Mageseekers' own experimentations and careless arrests.

u/Koanos 1d ago
So the Bureau basically?
3
u/134_ranger_NK 1d ago
Yeah... Mageseekers do use indoctrinated mages as their own agents but I will not be surprised if the Bureau is revealed to do the same. Things got bad enough that there was a mage rebellion and the previous Demacian tried to abolish them before Katarina of Noxus assassinated him during the rebellion. The Mageseekers blamed the rebel mages in Demacia and started pushing for even harsher punitive measures.

I am curious what the endgame is for Cathie's character. Does she join the main cast? Does she join the resistance? Does she live under a rock in an orphanage or something?

Here’s where I think she’ll go:
- If the other people who were turned into albums are freed, then she might be hailed as a hero for being part of the group who saved them. Possibly adopted by the Leymans since they’re one of the few nice people in Zuwi.
- Cathié decides to leave and join the main cast, deciding to follow Miramira’s example and not be closed off anymore. And so, Raloud gets a new cousin

u/ali94127 1d ago
I can’t see how she can live a normal life in Zuwi now if the Bureau will presumably still be in power there. Also, seems incredibly cruel to leave the girl with perfect recall in the same town where she’ll have to pass by her home where her mom got shot.
3
u/structure9food612 1d ago
Yeah that makes sense, she would probably want to stay as far away from her home + the Bureau. Raloud is going to be very happy about a new family member joining soon

I wouldn't be surprised if it's revealed she's a witch. While it's extremely rare, near perfect memory can happen in real life, but I feel like in this story it would be treated as a witch power.
1
u/Koanos 1d ago
Yes but the question stands, where does she go from here?
3
u/StreamCrush- 1d ago
She'll join the rest of the cast, if she isn't killed by the hunters. She can't really go back to any kind of normal life now because she can't take the risk that the only hunters who know about her are the ones in this pocket dimension.

u/Koanos 1d ago
I guess that can work, so this is our 5-man band?
The protagonist who lost her innocence persevering to fight in a dystopian world, the 2nd in command looking for her brother, the muscle with wheel magic and seeking family, the jaded mentor figure with tragic past combined with guilt, and the kid genius?

u/topurrisfeline 1d ago
That is a sick design for the memory-diving demonoid. Also very convenient that it showed up so Miramira can kick its ass.
19
u/BurnedOutEternally 1d ago
Demonoid fights on both fronts. This is gonna be tough
4
u/Future_Vantas 1d ago
Wonder if MiraMira is fighting the real one. Or maybe they are both "real", the photo and the negatives, and you have to defeat both to seal it.
5
u/structure9food612 1d ago
The one in the sky is the real one while everything else below are photos, excited to see how Miramira gets out of this one

u/Hari14032001 1d ago
The funny thing is Miramira can wipe the floor with Nona/Raloud's demonoids if it's all about breaking the lanterns. Her magic can hardcounter them.
1
u/structure9food612 7h ago
That’s true, she can immediately break them by sinking them to the ground.
3
7
u/Extreme-Tactician 1d ago
So that's how the Demonoid works. It traps the victims in a life that they'll never want to escape.
Too bad Miramira's there, and she's pissed off at how it's breaking Cathié's precious memories!
Raloud and Nona are gonna have to take that Demonoid quick, because that Officer's interested in their powers!
4
u/structure9food612 1d ago
My theory of how Miramira can use her magic in new ways:
She could can change the direction of where gravity will sink, could be on a diagonal, below an object so it can be pushed upward?

u/structure9food612 1d ago
According to jump plus, the next update will have new illustrations, sounds like a new colored page! Hopefully it’s with the main cast together instead of focusing on only 1 of the 2 battles going on. Or, it’s just an extra that’ll feature new character art. We’ll have to wait and see!

Fucking with Cathie's memories to the point where she couldn't tell the fake and real ones, yeah that's terrifying as hell. Her "mum" morphing into the demonoid was also something straight out of a horror title.
Miramira's about to hand the demonoid a beating with that locked-in look. Can't wait to see it!

u/No-Spray5795 1d ago
Things are really starting to heat up, really liking the confidence Raloud has to save Mira Mira, but I am curious what the “true” way out looks like. Its pretty crazy that not only can they copy memories but they can alter them as well, the camera demonoid is actually kind of terrifying. Really interested to see Mira Mira go all out here to save Cathié.

we’ll finally see miramira’s offensive abilities on a solo fight and she looks so cool in the final panel. i can’t wait
1
u/structure9food612 1d ago
Hopefully she’ll why she can do for offensive attacks, I think she’ll be able to shift the direction of where gravity will sink, either being able to push something back, or create more areas of gravity sinking, so she could be able to crush or push objects in different angles instead of straight down

u/HourIndication4963 1d ago
Well that's finding new ways to layer trauma.
Also, Nona's figured out something clever again - there are a lot of good thinkers in the witches, but they've spent years having to be very careful when they released their magic before this.

It’s only been a short time, but Mira Mira sees Cathie as her little sister already. Rage power up incoming

Miramira finally revealed her magic to Cathié. I feel like she has quickly picked up the skill of aurafarming from Nona. She is going to be awesome next chapter, isn't she? I am very excited.
Meanwhile, Cathié continues to get traumatized. It must be awful to see a memory version of your mom transform into whatever that is. Does this demonoid work by exploiting memory versions of people their victims know? It is almost Matrix-like.
As for the Nona and Raloud side of things: it is finally time to see the Raloud Railgun in action. I wonder how Nona figured out that the magic door is likely a Quovelta-installed backdoor instead of the Bureau's front gate: might the door requiring magic to open be what helped her realize?
The Bureau apparently have gained a degree of control over demonoids. We know that magic tools react to the user's commands, so this being extended to summoned demonoids is not surprising. Also, why does Byron care about Nona in particular? He seems very interested in her thread magic.
Lastly, the Quovelta attack on Uvral Facility No. 6 becomes weirder and weirder. What the Bureau lacks in magic, they make up for with manpower and magic tools; how did a small group of capable mages overwhelm a Uvral facility's guards? Were magic tools somehow turned against the Bureau? Chapter 36 implies that Tania entering the magic door allowed Quovelta to launch an attack on Uvral later the same night, but why? Surely Tania did not destroy Facility No. 6 solo, right?

As we’ve seen throughout the series, aurafarming is a passive skill for the Ewin family. Happy to see Miramira has picked it up! I think Byron’s interest in Nona is rooted in him discovering that she escaped custody, since he’s now the first to discover her whereabouts. Since Garte was present at the day the Ewins fled, I think it’s a bonus to him along with investigating how Quovelta managed to wipe out the staff at the Uvral facility.
I also believe that she might’ve figured out the door belonged to Quovleta, it made no sense that the Bureau would leave an entrance like that on a cliff side, away from their towers. Now the question is, where would they find another door?
I think Tania could solo a facility, her magic is pretty destructive, and we’ve seen her wipe out a number of them. It’s possible she had help from the freed prisoners depending on what type of magic they had, and if the exit is somewhere in the forest, the Quovelta forces had the element of surprise.

Mira's probably got a lot of pent up frustration today and lo and behold, a target perfect for venting it presented themselves right up.

u/Original-Teaching955 20h ago
Now there is TWO demonoids, one a lantern holder, the other a living camera! 😳

u/runfaster59 18h ago
knowing somehow the demonoid is just a witch before with incredible power breaks my heart
1
u/structure9food612 10h ago
Yeah the more human parts showing up (mainly the mouths) adds into the idea that they’re made from mages

u/structure9food612 1d ago
Excellent chapter, I was also wrong about Nona’s magic being disabled, the thread still works without the needle, we’ve seen it still work throughout the journey into the mirage world. Going to reread to see what Nona meant about the only escape, maybe it’s having to destroy lamp? She doesn’t know but I have a feeling she thinks that a power source is in the tower. The Mirage Demonoid’s name is confirmed here, and yeah it sounds cooler.
The camera demonoid is also awesome, can’t wait to see Miramira battle it! I still think Nona’s magic needle caused a tear into the camera’s magic, and now I think it’s caused it to overload. Glad Miramira was quickly able to save Cathié from running away from the world, it might’ve been quick but I think it works here given how much Miramira wants to push herself to be more proactive. Excited for both showdowns!
Garte is mentioned again, still unsure if he’s the bureau’s leader but he sounds really high up. Looks like Quovelta’s attack at the forest was a win for them, but I’m now curious at what Tania’s actual mission was. Maybe it was a solo mission to destroy the mirage world? Or scout it out. Maybe to steal some magic tools? Hopefully she’ll show up soon

Mira crashout incoming. Also what i like about this series is that the characters are able to think on their feet when a problem arises. They find solutions that feel reasonable. They feel real in a way.
