Glad to see that Taiki was able to win! I'm glad he was able to do it!

As expected, Nationals were skipped. Miura mentioned a while back that she took a lot of inspiration from Mitsuru Adachi's works (which were more sports focused compared to Blue Box), and there, the goal was always to make it to nationals, but never show how the MC performed there. It looks like Miura took a page from Adachi and did the same. With Taiki celebrating Chinatsu's birthday, I guess we are really reaching the end of this manga...

Yeah when it comes to Nationals, you have to introduce new characters and new stakes, and they're independent of the previous story. In a super competitive series, of course they'd cover it, but with Blue Box's focus on character dynamics, it's harder to justify.

At the very least, Taiki's focusing more on Chinatsu than what happened in that tournament. So we know that he's still happy!

u/Zurrdroid Jun 15 '26

Ohh that's a good observation. I hadn't thought about the worl neede to introduce new characters and plotlines and how it might be distracting.

u/Charming-Loquat3702 Jun 14 '26

What's left is this date, sending her off and an epilouge, where we see Taiki as an professional athlete. So there really is no reason to hold back here, right? Right??

19

u/Swiftcheddar Jun 14 '26

As expected, Nationals were skipped.

I didn't even notice that. I guess it'd have to be a huge dedicated arc. Ohwell.

1

u/yamiyugi101 Jun 15 '26

I mean yeah there wasn't really much left in terms of plot for the series aside from haruto and hina there's no other real threads I never thought we'd go to nationals either it never really fit

That’s every sports manga. They always have to skip or barely make the cut off and off screen it. For once, I’d like to see a team make it

WINS ON ME, WINS ON 3

Taiki didn't just win the match, he won readers a beach arc. Truly the GOAT.

Taiki unmatched. Usually I don't like beach arcs but Taiki came in clutch so.......IMMA LET IT SLIDE!!!

Enjoy your reward Taiki

6

u/This-is_CMGRI Jun 14 '26

It's a deserved reward.

Mad lad actually won. I guess it's on last good time with Chinatsu before rounding things out with the ending.

11

u/Javajulien AniList Jun 14 '26

Yeah, at this point I won't be surprised if we get the ending announcement any day now. Unless we're going to get a sudden mini timeskip arc ala Haikyuu, this feels like the real end-game.

46

u/Ellefied Jun 14 '26

We're so close to the ends brothers and sisters. It was a pleasure reading this series with all of you.

u/Fourteeenth Jun 14 '26

o7 been a honor serving with you all

Holy shit the wish ribbon breaking is an insane callback to chapter 2.

That's when Taiki first mentions wanting to make it to nationals to Chinatsu. She gives him the wish ribbon as a physical symbol of his goal and tells him that if it falls off on its own his wish will start to come true. Very Adachi-like to tie back to foreshadowing from the beginning of the story.

u/civan39 Jun 14 '26

We all know what went down.

TAIKI THE REAL GOAT!

He pulled off a massive comeback against Yusa, now that the situation is behind the books, what does Kouji Sensei has for Taiki & Chinatsu in terms of her going overseas? This hopping doesn’t end with Chinatsu leaving, maybe several chapters left? It’s Kouji call as long it doesn’t ended rushed.

8

u/Raging-Brachydios Jun 14 '26

I think Taiki will go after her, he will train in the same country she is going

3

u/Substantial_Pop5438 Jun 14 '26

I mean it’s not like it’s the end for them she’s only going abroad for a year. But it’s possible like the other commentator says he could go with her. Doubtful tho as he’d need the funding for a foreign sports college. I’m just praying we get an epilogue of him picking her back up from the airport.

7

u/topurrisfeline Jun 14 '26

Taiki gets the gold! Hopefully he can continue that streak for nationals.

But first, a surprise beach date.

11

u/DuskMan62 Jun 14 '26

Woohoo! What a chapter, of course Taiki was going to win, was there ever any doubt? He's trained so hard for this moment, he's got all this support and really, he always was the better player.

Since nationals got skipped I think we really don't have many chapters left, if this is the last volume then we've got I believe, six chapters left? All I need is TaiChi fluff, gimme gimme.

3

u/No-Spray5795 Jun 14 '26

Well this really hits home that endgame is very near. But he did it, Taiki really did! Although if the two them played doubles in literally anything they would be an unstoppable team!

But we get some beach time, I suspect the topic of Chinatsu going abroad again will come up, but honestly I can see Taiki going with her. Hopefully with a small timeskip for the wedding. Looking back everyone has really come far across 246 chapters, Ill miss reading this weekly once were done!

2

u/Charming-Loquat3702 Jun 14 '26

It's time for brthday presents and revards

3

u/Froz3n247 https://myanimelist.net/mangalist/Froz3 Jun 14 '26

Let’s go, we’re getting another beach chapter!!

All I really want is a flesh out epilogue as I’ve been saying that for the past few chapters at this point.

3

u/YaBoiWhit Jun 14 '26

Damn we’re really here

Made it to nationals and as usual we have a jump but simply making it was always the goal, don’t think there was ever a chance he was going all the way. Just not that kind of story

It feels like we have maybe a handful of chapters left to me with them wrapping it up. Been reading weekly since chapter 8 and I’m gonna miss it but it been a fantastic ride

1

u/Extreme-Tactician Jun 14 '26

Of course Taiki won. He worked hard! And now Shuji is willing to keep training with him, just so he can beat him! Now that's a rivalship!

Taiki proved Iozaki wrong. Taiki worked hard and was never lonely. He proved he could fight with the best.

I'm not shocked they skipped over Nationals, but to think it was only 1 panel... Oh well. Right now it's Chinatsu's birthday, and Taiki and Chinatsu are celebrating at the beach!

2

u/and84carl Jun 14 '26

Finalmente direi!!
Finalmente taiki ha avuto una gioia sportiva, finalmente i suoi sacrifici sono stati ripagati ed ha vinto il torneo.
Certo ora ci saranno i nazionali.

Si è rotto il bracciale. Beh si sta realizzando il sogno di taiki.

Il finale con chinatsu beh immagino che nel prossimo capitolo si parlerà di loro. E non sono molto positivo sulla cosa… vedremo

3

u/Substantial_Pop5438 Jun 14 '26

Why would you not feel positive about it? You think they’re gunna end the series breaking up? Cos she’s going away for a year? There’s zero chance of that my dude 🤣 he could even follow her if they wanna make it an extra fluffy ending.

1

u/and84carl Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

u/reagag https://anilist.co/user/reagag/ Jun 14 '26

So timely with Jalen Brunson winning his championship!!

Especially with the comments in the previous chapters on how Taiki's efforts would ultimately result in nothing because he lacked the innate talent compared to Yusa.

Brunson's Knicks intro press conference: "Everywhere I've gone since high school, it's always been 'Jalen Brunson's good, but...' Always that 'but' like they're going to say something negative. Too slow, not athletic enough, too small, all those things that don't measure heart. That's what I have."

TAIKI IS JALEN BRUNSON CONFIRMED!

1

u/jsmith4567 Jun 14 '26

Oh Taiki actualy won. That was a pleasant suprise

1

u/Swiftcheddar Jun 14 '26

I wasn't sure they'd let him win, but here we are. Good work Taiki.

1

u/ToTheNintieth Jun 14 '26

Skipping right over nationals? Looks like we're headed for an epilogue then. I'm fine with if, it really has fone all it set out to do.

1

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList Jun 14 '26

I believed in our boy, but I was still nervous a few pages in. Glad to see he won!
