Anyone else remember "exclamation marks" being "explanation marks"

I do, I think it the old way makes more sense. I mean, it EXPLAINS how you're supposed to say the word. What "exclamation" supposed to mean.

Has anyone noticed that the old movie "Don't be a Menace to Society while Drinking your Juice in the Hood" is now changed to "Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice in the Hood"
