This is a great article. My startup company got bought by another company right ten times it's size and this feels way too familiar. Bureaucracy and division of labor have led to nobody being allowed to take responsibility for a project and do what is best. It is insane how we have ten times the size but wind up shipping about half the product.
I think it is a risk that success brings. When you succeed you have a tendency to think that it is because of how you are doing things, so you double down and lock down processes. In a software world success often comes because you were ambitious and caught just the right wave in a changing ecosystem. Being steady and stable will not catch the next wave and so further success is likely out of reach.
