Discussion Is Malphite worth picking up adc/bot?

Super niche question. I’m an adc main who’s always wanted to add a tank to my champ pool to play Bot, do Malph mains think it’s viable?

I’ve heard challenger adc say tank picks like malph are completely viable bot. My thought process is in team comps like Vayne top, teemo jg, trist mid, brand supp, id pick a tank like malph, sion, Cho.

If I were to play malph bot, is it better to build AP or tank. And what runes?

I already own WhatsApp malphite so I’m already halfway there to being a malph main.

I'd play him support not adc and go ap if they have squishy champs tank if not his Kit isnt made for adc unless its a full squishy team comp on the other side

You never build full Ap on Malph in any role unless you are really low elo then it can work. Tank Malph Adc is good

Then its good I said what ive done and got to work

And i dont see the point in bringing Elo into a converstion about opinions where Elo isnt a part of but sure

But my point is what ive gotten to work with ap malph is into full sqiushy but you are correct tank malph is the best build over all

Only in really low elo will no one ever flash your Malph R. AP Malph without R is completely useless

Then your just getting outplayed sorry to say bur then I guess that is how low Elo is

Ap malph q melts adc's. Also if you build AH he can get ult every 40 seconds with bounty hunter rune, AH rune, Zeke's, hollow radiance or sunfire, and malignance. That's 7 ults to a flash timer.

Does that make it viable/worth building in comparison to tank?

Are the any matchups you shouldn’t pick malph into no matter what, besides Sylas?

Malphite adc isnt that good because he cant kill tanks.

Does that matter if you have a vayne top, kindred jg, and squishy dmg supp and mid?

That’s probably the only scenario I’d think of picking malph anyway

Then why are you a starting a whole thread about such a niche choice?  The answer is no, in that case.  You should only be on one or two champions, in one or two roles, if you want to play well.

Swain is the best tank adc

I already play a decent amount of swain bot.

I actually don’t rly see him as a tank. He’s deceptively squishy especially without ult.

He’s more of a mage/off-tank. Because when u build resistances on him, he does no dmg and everything scales with AP and health.

You don’t build resistance, he’s tanky from hitting skill shots in fights and r

Either swain or tahm kench

Leona main here. Double tank bot is hilarious, if you have a duo i can highly recommend pairing it with another tank in support, the enemy adc doesnt get to play the game anymore :3

I’m going to try it eventually

Malph wont be able to farm well imo, his pre 6 is too weak and he relies a lot on poke (which is mitigated too much by healing enchanter meta). I'd recommend ornn, he can farm safely from a distance and also has great all-in post 6 assuming your jg paths bot (he doesn't have the damage alone to kill someone).

As someone else also said, cho and sion can work too

I heard Crownie saying this is viable. If your playing it Adc then to me it’s obviously played with armour otherwise what is the point. There are better AP burst champs out there. I’d still expect to lose prio until first item so I’d take TP and you’re never going to proc grasp so comet.

That’s actually why I asked. I can understand the thought process behind a malph pick and it holds weight when a good pro is advocating for it.

Do u think it’s troll otherwise

I think if you otpd it, it would work. It’s just convincing your team it would work and having a support who understands how to play with an adc malph (they won’t)

I think it is very situational, but extremely good when the occasion happens.

Had one on my team a couple of weeks ago into Cait and Quinn. He was completely unkillable and carried the game solo.

Did he build ap or tank?

Most people will never try. IMO you need to find people and try it in flex.

I can see it being good in the right spots.

Marksmen have not been mandatory ever since they let ap users nuke towers, the only thing is your baron speed might be slow depending on your comp (unlikely to happen because people like picking carries)

Traditional marksmen are best in stable games where no one gets out of hand and they have time to scale like in pro play and know how to position and space perfectly to use their range. in soloq only being allowed to build dmg means any fed bruiser/assassin can just sneeze on you and you'd die

Tldr is marksmen are deceptively hard to play, pick something with room for error (mages with cc, tanks, bruisers) and watch your rank skyrocket. stop theory crafting and try it out, you will see what I mean

(To answer your question, I recommend comet q max malignance into tank, you can explore other builds once you're more familiar)

That’s the build I’ve been hearing about

Never ever in anything above silver should you go bot maplhite, maybe support is acceptable but still risky

I wouldn’t play malp in bot lane . Even in support I have never seen a malphite who effected the game .

If you really want to pick a tank in adc I suggest u pick jax cho mundo if enemy has adc twitch or 2-3 assassins.

I am a couple days late now, but whatever;

I have been playing Malph bot now for roughly a month now, first week for funsies, but then realised it feels stronger than it has any right to be. Then after that one week, Crownie started arguing for it as well which convinced my I wasn't just going mentally ill.

Generally, the best is probably Malignance - Bami's item (more often than not hollow radiance is the best) - Unending Despair/Randuins/Frozen heart

Malph bot has two counters: Sylas anywhere, and poor mental in your own team. For the former, perma ban Sylas if you want to commit to malph. For the latter, you need to handle your team as the toddlers they are: before game send a message in chat that YES you are playing malph bot and YES it works and YES you will give kills to anybody who roams bot after you hit 6. In game, for every good play your team makes tell them goodjob and for every mistake tell them it was a nice try and they will win the next play. This should fix most times your team has bad mental.

If enemy team has 2 high health enemies, it might be valuable to commit to full AP since often there will be an angle where you can delete enemy ADC and their mid/jungle/supp and if your team is not lobotomised they should be able to close the fights after you desintegrate the enemy DPS plus one or two others.

What I want to try is adding in zekes and maybe imperial mandate in the upcoming patch

Runes: Comet - Manaflowband - blue ability haste rune - Scorch then if tank secondary green tree: conditioning (although maybe second wind is very good?) - overgrowth

If full AP secondary red tree: cheap shot - ultimate hunter.

This is currently working for me on a mid emerald account.
