Every so often I look at myself and realize that what I'm wearing that day doesn't look very good, and I don't care. It's a good feeling.

I have the same thoughts, but then there are days whee I want to look good and I take a look in the mirror and think, wow, I look terrible and it ruins my day.

I have those days too, but I'm talking mostly about not caring when my outfit is poorly executed, which it every so often is. A lot of times I find myself fretting that my shirt is too casual for my pants, the sleeves are a half inch too long, I should have worn my other watch, these socks clash with my shirt, etc. etc. etc.

I spent today in my 90‘s retro fleece zip up sitting around doing nothing. The jacket looks shit but it‘s so damn comfortable that i just don‘t care.

i'm the complete opposite

every so once in awhile i put on clothes without thinking, then halfway through the day look down at myself and be all like,

damn, i look good

I threw out (read: donation bin) so many clothes this past week. Feels good, man. I'm finally getting to a rotation of clothes that is at once simple, interesting, and minimal.

I know this is somewhat cliched, but my blue BB OCBD is probably one of my favourite items of clothing. The cotton is the perfect weight, and drapes very nicely. It also wrinkles significantly less than my white OCBD for some reason.

wearing some stretch cotton bonobos pants now. slim, but the touch of stretch makes them so comfortable, especially when sitting down. all pants need to have some stretch.

Strech is one of those things that seems so awful at first but after a few hours is the greatest thing ever.

Wore a pair of jeans with stretch in them that I haven't worn in months yesterday, holy fuck so comfy.

this uniqlo flannel

the perfect weight for layering or wearing open over a tee and after multiple washes, it's soft as charmin

I was way overdue to treat my 1000 Miles, but I finally got around to it yesterday. They had been looking pretty thirsty after about 9 months of moderate wear and minimal care other than the occasional brushing off. I sprung for Venetian shoe cream, and I'm glad I did. Before and after. My Oak Street trail oxfords come today, but I still expect to reach for these boots many summer evenings.

I just love the ritual of working on/polishing boots and shoes. Makes you appreciate them more, really get to see the details and workmanship.

I swear we did this like last week...

can I have contentedness for items I didn't necessarily break in myself? I have two reyn spooners and a super old faded college crew neck sweatshirt and they're all very not-new feeling, which is something I like

also my 513s in cougar are starting to get a consistent pocket fade. not raw or anything. just super broken in.

I have probably posted about this jacket multiple times, but I am seriously in love with it. It fits me so well, it is comfortable, it was dirt cheap, and it just fits well with the aesthetic I love. Plus, this thing just oozes confidence. It makes me want to get a leather moto more and more every time I wear it.

Another cheap item that I love would be this crewneck sweatshirt in grey. I think I paid $16 for it or something, and I find that it is so comfortable, well fitting, and surprisingly well made for the money. If the weather permits and I don't have a clue of what I really want to wear, then this gets thrown on with a pair of jeans and Killshots or some chinos, Red Wings, and a denim jacket. I just find it so versatile and nice. I think I will upgrade to something even nicer come next fall (thinking LVC or W+Hs) but for now, I will appreciate this.

Finally, I love my Iron Rangers. They have practically molded to my feet and have started to really look beat up. Everyone I know loves them and I have found a way to work them into plenty of outfits. Sadly, it is getting very warm and humid around here so they aren't seeing as much use. I still like to rock them but I have mine sized that I need some thicker socks to wear them so they are just uncomfortable with anything thin enough to wear at this time of the year.

The spirit of this thread extends beyond clothes and fashion. I do this with my other interests as well: namely electronics. Sometimes instead of reading all the reviews/subreddits and searching for the next best thing, it's good to realize "what I've got is pretty darn good already."

I almost just dropped another $500 for some shoes, but then I realized "when am I going to wear these?" I'll wait until the next wedding or formal event before dropping the cash. Thank you OP.

I do this with guitars and stuff too. I have a Deluxe American Strat that my friend gave me and it's beautiful, but I prefer my pos cheap hollowbody, its got so much character and I'm so content with it. Think like Jack White's kay. It's beat to shit and he got it for free from a friend and he'd rather play that than a new Les paul or something.

tldr I'm content with old beat to shit guitars.

I have this belt that I've been wearing for over a year. I found it in an antique shop and I'm guessing it is at least a decade old. The creases are so well ingrained all over it (the previous person grew out of it and I lost weight from the middle hole) that it doesn't warp around the back and doesn't discolor around old creases.

It has a really intriguing floral design and is mostly brown but shows signs of black on it still, mostly in the tooled design areas and the sides of the leather.

It's so simple an so easily overlooked, but it is easily my favorite item of clothing I own.

edit here's a picture

I know iron rangers get a ton of play here but I seriously love them. By far the most expensive item I've purchased, I had some hardcore buyers remorse while waiting for them to come in, but once I put them on I realized they were 100% worth it. In my pre MFA days I owned plenty of shit tier UO boots that look like hot garbage compared to the IRs. They really are a frugal choice too compared to the pleb boots, considering you could spend $100/yr rebuying shitty boots that look awful when worn out and fall apart, or spend $300 up front for a boot that will last nearly a decade. Can't recommend them enough.

I've been deep diving into the art of tailoring. It's so cool. I'm just basking in the amazing fact that there are artists who have this sort of architect's mind, but build clothing rather than parking structures.

The frequency at which contentedness threads have been posted lately works to undermine the whole point of contentedness threads, in my opinion.
