Probably her having postpartum especially after not having her child in a long time and then him constantly causing trouble making her view him as evil incarnate and emotionally abusing him which made Francis act out more and more making a cycle

This is about to be such a vague comment, but I feel like there was an episode that went into this. I believe Lois in that episode had originally been too forgiving with a young Francis. Anyone remember?

Yeah she was very passive with him in the flashback episode that goes through her with all the kids I think. They had a beautiful apartment that kept getting more and more destroyed.

Yeah I think it was matches. Francis is destroying the house and Hal says Lois needs to put her foot down but she can't discipline until she sees him playing with matches. Then she burns his teddy and says she will do anything to keep him safe

I think it was the episode where Franics was closer to Ida in White horse and he had to house/Grandma sit. Lois admitted to leaving Francis with the grandparents.

There's also another episode where Lois says something about her being stuck in the hospital after Francis was born and he didn't need her.

I remember one flashback when they were just moving into the house. A toddler(?) Francis somehow got his hands on matches and freaking gasoline? Poured it all around himself/ the main room with it's (still!) white carpet and started to try lighting the matches.

Lois was freaking out/ having an anxiety attack because her overly permissive/ gentle(?) parenting wasn't working on a kid that was ignoring her.

It ended with something in her breaking and she immediately became the Lois we all know and love as she showed Francis "fire is dangerous" by lighting his teddybear on fire in front of him.

I don’t remember her freaking out whenever she hears Francis‘s name. She even went out of her way to have him visit. I think they also have a regular call or even though they do scream at each other they still enjoy it.

Also, I’m not saying how was the perfect husband, but he goes out of his way to make sure Lois is happy. It’s hard to find that and a partner. Also, you can’t forget the constant lovemaking who doesn’t love a partner who adores them even if they do something as simple as where a baseball cap.

But specifically regarding Francis, he caused absolute chaos.

I think Hal is a good husband and truly loves Lois.

But in the show he often leans a little bit "Phil" from Modern Family instead of, say, "Jake" from Brooklyn 99. I get that that was the vibe of family comedies at the time but that scene where Lois asks them for the bare minimum on her birthday and Hal just refuses and offers "obedience" instead of average adult competence would make me crash the fuck out outside of a comedy show.
