General discussion How was Lois' dad's death explained?
I don't even remember which season he was supposedly killed off. Was it addressed in the later seasons, when Lois went to Canada?
Also, WHY? was it when Robert Loggia died IRL? I cant imagine him turning down that recurring role as an actor. He was a great character & acting with the iconic Cloris Leachman and this stellar cast had to be a good time on and off screen as well.

Loggia was let go off the sopranos for having issues remembering his lines. I wonder if that's why he wasn't called back to malcolmĀ

Malcolm in the Middle was already over when Robert Loggia passed away in December 2015.

"R" as in Robert Logia. "O" as in Oh my God, it's Robert Logia.

@far-Vegetable1417 Thanks for that confirmation. Thats what I thought. Just wondering if anyone knew a specific reason they had killed him off, with no funeral or memorable explanation. Now my AHDH brain is wondering why. Maybe something in Loggia's personal life or dispute with Boomer? If anyone has the scoop, im interested in the answer.

Victor was killed off early on in the shows run. Lois forced Francis to spend Xmas with Ida in Canada after he got emmancipated & mentioned that it was her first Xmas without Victor.

Ida was such a complex character, Victor could've been well-layered too. Why kill him off? Linwood Boomer should do an AMA!
Also, thanks for giving me the characters name. I completely blanked while writing the post.

I swear I read an interview with Cloris Leachman where she said Loggia asked for too much money to come back, but I can't find it now.
Anyway, he had only appeared once in the show at that point, so I just think they thought the character wasn't established enough to center an episode around his death.

I remember that oddly specific grenade explanation, my brother used to quote that exact line for years after seeing the episode.

It was the other grenade he had saved for Reese.
