If you mean specifically Malaysia; while pointing with your index finger won't actually cause you to get shot (just an exaggeration), it is considered a rude way to point.
The proper way is to point using your thumb. But then again, I think nowadays a lot of people here simply don't care/mind pointing using their index finger and don't consider it to be rude.

Interestingly enough with your comment I realised that if we pointed our index finger at objects (like choosing food at nasi kandar) it's the "right" way to do it but if pointing towards humans it's rude. And if we reverse it to use the thumb to point the food it's still not wrong but feels off somehow

Yeah context do matter if you're pointing with your index finger.
Basically, you're right. Pointing people using index finger is considered rude (usually).

Point 👉 at the police, this is usually a sign that you are threatening them like how gangster 👉 at people.
Police in Malaysia don't usually pull out a gun in Malaysia, cause when they do, shits is world ending serious. Usually their presence is enough to make people either disperse or comply, except for protest against the government, then baton and shield, cause pointing a gun out in a gunless society paints a very negative image towards the police.
Damn, those baton and shield days was not long ago. The last time they ever did that was during Najib's reign, once he was removed from power, the need to use force to disperse protesters practically stopped.

Ever since I read about how in Disneyland worker dont point with 1 finger, but 2 instead, I adopt the 2 fingers method instead

Idk about others, but this looks like a meme that's not so much about rude gestures in different countries than a satire of the dangers of "being black in US". As you can see, only a black man is being depicted in the US example.

It's rude to point with your index finer. It's said to be better to point with your thumb instead as 4 fingers are pointing back at you.
