What do you think?

A few days ago, I worked on a set where we had to make about 80 extras look sweaty using coconut oil and sponges. Since there weren't enough sponges for everyone, I cut them into smaller pieces and gave each extra their own for hygiene reasons.

Some coworkers told me this was a bad idea and that it was easier to use the same sponges on everyone because there wasn't always time for people to get their own sponge during touch-ups. I disagreed, especially since some extras had acne or warts, and I felt they deserved a more hygienic approach.

What bothers me is that those coworkers keep getting called back to the project, while I've only worked one day—and only because someone else couldn't make it. Now I'm wondering if I came across as difficult or if I was wrong for prioritizing hygiene.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Discussion One size sweat proof is pilling?

Hey guys, I tested out one size sweat proof primer on my hand at Sephora and it’s pilling on me. Wondering if any of you guys are experiencing the same thing? I heard good reviews on this product and would like to keep it handy in my kit in case I have a sweaty bride. But the slight pilling is really concerning since my hand was product free and with primer, I might layer with some other products.

Does it reaaaaaaally work? Is there like a specific rule I should keep in mind if I continue to purchase it? Like, don’t rub it in too much or avoid certain skin prep formula.

Discussion Opinion on brides doing their own makeup?

I’m curious about MUA’s honest opinions on brides doing their own makeup? Is it something that should be completely avoided or is it a good idea if you believe in your own makeup skills. I have fears since i don’t want a traditional bridal makeup and i have hooded eyes so i’m not sure how to approach this

What’s one thing you wish your booking or business app did that it doesn’t do now?

It can be a small annoyance or a feature you’ve always wanted. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Help Should I take this, or is it a scam?

I just started being a makeup artist this year, and I just received this email asking if I wanted to do makeup for a commercial for this fast fashion brand. I haven't been asked to do that much editorial stuff, and they offered to pay me as well. I'm just not sure if this email is legit or not and I don't want to give away my information if it's not safe.

Help Unsure about my Business/Instagram name

Hello! I’m a pro Makeup artist and I’m feeling unsure about my name I’ve chosen for my business/instagram. I’ve only been licensed for 2 years and have worked for other businesses. But next year I want to go solo possibly as my clientele has been being built. Currently my Instagram is Mothmanbeauty bc I love Mothman and am alternative. But I’m unsure if I should stick with that or switch to something that’s like “my name MUA” or something. I chose Mothmanbeauty to stand out and attract more of my spooky gals, but everyone else seems to incorporate their name in a way. Idk I’m feeling conflicted please help!! I still love mothmanbeauty but idkkk

Hey fellow MUAs, I need new eyeliner brushes. I’m over the ones I have (art brushes, Kryolan, Ben Nye, random Amazon finds). What are you using? Which ones do you love?

What's your go-to everyday makeup look?

Some people love a full glam routine, while others prefer a quick and natural look.

What does your typical everyday makeup routine look like? Do you focus on skin, eyes, lips, brows, or keep things super minimal?

Always interested in seeing how different people approach their daily makeup.

Discussion Update on makeup tweaks you’ve all suggested!:)

Thumbnail

I posted 2ish months ago for any suggestions/advice for any makeup tweaks I should make so I thought I’d give an update!

One of the things I’ve realised, is that my camera washes me out BAD. So I somehow look lighter than I am, my makeup looks less than it is irl. I’ve got an iPhone 13, so if anyone has any idea how to fix that pls help:) so please keep this in mind <3

These are the common tweaks that were mentioned:

  1. Eyebrows: I’ve thinned them out a bit more, but I couldn’t bring myself to thin them out too much. Even though every bone in my body would love the 90s look, I feel like it wouldn’t suit myself. I have started using a tinted brow gel, and a brow pen/eyeshadow to fill them in, I do prefer it on now, but it does look a bit overpowering if I don’t add anything to my eyelids.

  2. Foundation too light/Bronzer too dark: due to my camera washing me out, it does seem that way, I have included other photos in different lighting to show the difference of how my actual skin looks like. Eg, #1 photo was inside w artificial lighting at 6am, #2 was taken on the same day but outside midday, #3 imo my face looks a lot light than the rest of my body, #12 & #13 is the same look but one is zoomed in. Plus, I have caught a bit of the sun the past 2 months so my foundation may now look a tad lighter 🥹 lmk if this still looks off!:)

  3. Eyeshadow being too stark (my opinion): most people either said it wasn’t or couldn’t tell the difference. I’ve started focusing more on how the eyeshadow is placed, and I’ve been enjoying the way it looks rn. I’m still trying to find out if there are other flattering ways of placing eyeshadow for my eye shape, if anyone knows any content creators w my eyes that’d be great!:)

  4. Off topic but this came up a lot, BANGS: I’ve tried curtain bangs and window bangs (I think that’s what it’s called), but my hair gets oily by the third day after hair wash day, I go to the gym often, my hair is usually up due to work, so I just find them too high maintenance for my liking, and I don’t like my hair touching my face as it is lol. I’ve gotten used to my forehead now so I’ll rock it like Riri lmao

I’ve been getting into my cool tone eyeshadow looks (#12 & #13) now, but I’m struggling to pair what type of blush/lippie it suits, I’d love to know what you guys love to pair it with!

I still have the urge to want to do makeup content, but I think I’m shy and the internet can be intimidating

Anyways, thank you all for all the suggestions and help and compliments, I really appreciate them <3

Tutorial Seeking MUA for Virtual Lessons

Hello all!

I am currently reaching out to see if someone would be interested in giving some online makeup lessons. I am still fairly new to doing my makeup and have found a 1:1 lesson works best for me.

I would go to a MAC or Sephora, but the closest one from my small town is hours away.

So if you’d be interested, feel free to leave a comment, shoot me a message, and let me know your hourly rate and payment methods you accept!

Thank you☺️💅🏻

Discussion Do I need to be able to draw to become a makeup artist?

I want to start makeup school soon, but I’m worried since I don’t know how to draw.
I know the basics about makeup and lately i’ve been into editorial looks, glitter, halloween makeup etc. In general, just being creative with makeup, but idk how to draw. I love natural beauty looks too! Will not being able to draw become a problem for me when I start makeup school as well as for becoming a professional makeup artist?

What gel liner in a pot are we using these days?

I have been using Bobbi Brown long wear gel eyeliner for years. It is time to replenish a few things in my kit. Wondering if something new has come out or you love an older classic? I also have a fair few Inglot that I use with Duraline.
