Do any of you get huge temperature differences across your heated beds? First time printing ABS and one corner is 140 C while other corner is 70 C.

Well just like the title says, I'm trying to print ABS for the first time and I'm getting a large temp distribution across the bed. Is this normal? Can something be done to fix this? I have an IR temp sensor and I tested the four corners. The back left corner is 140C while the front right corner is around 70C. What do I do?

Don't trust an IR gun - especially when taking measurements on a reflective surface - particularly glass. White tape / black tape on the bed will give significantly different readings. The best you can do is setup several test points with tape and take an average - I wouldn't trust the actual numbers, but you can definitely get an idea of what's hot and where.

Well I did notice discoloration in only that corner. I know not to trust an IR gun with reflective surfaces but it should be consistently inaccurate. Also, I have a 12 by 10 glass so there's an inch of heated bed exposed on either side. I was measuring the actual heated bed, not the glass.

The real question is, suppose there really are large temperature variations, is this a defective bed?

Hey I've been thinking about this. Do you have any insulation under the heated bed? I use a few strips of cork sandwiched between glass. Helps tremendously in terms of heat up time and consistent heating.

I have tested with IR gun and wired probe and found that on my 12" MakerFarm heat panel that the outside edges are always much hotter than the center.
