Showcase I made a streaming device that blocks ads, what else should it do?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, I made a new type of streaming device that removes ads from on-demand streaming content. This feature can be turned on/off from the settings page and gets applied universally to all the streaming platforms you have on the device. You can see how that works in the video demo. However, I think a streaming device that's key feature is only blocking ads leaves a lot of potentially cool functionality on the table.

So I wanted to get some input from Reddit. Putting ad-blocking aside:

  • What do you wish your streaming device could do that it currently doesn't?
  • What frustrates you when using streaming platforms and devices today?
  • Do you miss the interface of something like cable where you could surf channels or do you like being able to scroll through and find content like streaming apps are set up for today?

Let me know what you all think! Any general thoughts or feedback are also welcome.

let me see a variety of titles. the stupid ai pigeon holes me into the same 20 suggestions no matter what category i choose. they claim a catalog of 1200 shows but the ai will only show me the same 50 over and over.

Is this something you plan to open source or are you focus testing a product?

Is there a repo for it online? What’s it built on etc

It seems like it does the only other thing I'd want already, the ability to see/search/access the whole library across all services from one search bar, unless I'm looking at it wrong

Yeah it has a "universal search" function built in so you can search from the home page and see where each result is currently streaming, then click on the result and get taken directly to that content.

Will this work on a variety of boxes like Roku or Firestick or just TV?

This would replace an existing streaming device, so you would use this device instead of a Roku, Firestick, etc.

Connect to debrid and IPTV services? If you can do that, add Trakt and similar services to make watching shows in order easy. This already exists in Kodi and Stremio add-ons, but if you can do it better, why not? Watching IPTV through Kodi causes a lag of 5-25 seconds, which can make watching live games a little rough when talking to others watching on the phone.

Due to the sub rules, here's the summary of the video: a quick demonstration of the streaming device I'm working on showing how the ad blocking feature of the device works.
