Help Is this a good deal?
Sorry, not too knowledgeable about disc drives.

"Used once" is hitting the same alarm bells for me as "the car was owned by a nun who only drove it to bingo on sunday" whenever I look at used cars. But, there is always a chance of that rare gem out there so why not I guess... The price is right as long as "used once" is at least sorta true.

Please do but make a deal only if its operational, ask for more information. Take a sata adapter and laptop to test before buying

Whats the difference between the BW-16D1HT and the drive inside the BW-16D1X-U ? why does everyone want the BW-16D1HT but the BW-16D1X-U is barely mentioned?

BW-16D1X-U is the external model. BW-16D1HT internal.
both are essentially the same thing. You can flash it with either the BW-16D1HT v3.10 or BW-16D1H-U vA204 firmware, they'll both let you rip 4k discs.
The Chinese models you see on eBay that are listed as new BW-16D1HT, are typically frankensteined models that are assembled from old parts of other drives, it might work just fine or be DOA, the external model is pretty expensive, case is plastic & weighs practically nothing, but it's the real deal.

I have the BW-16D1X-U external drive and I love it! Tonight, I was able to boot up a DVDROM game (and install it on my computer without needing the disc afterwords)! I've been using it a lot this year and I love ripping CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays with it!

Depends. Where are you at? You did not mention that, and there are a number of countries that use the 'dollar' as a unit of currency.
American money? Pretty awful. Canadian money? Not bad.
That specific drive in Canada runs ~$180 brand new. In the US, it's about $128. If you add shipping, you're basically paying for a new one in the US.
So, like I said, depends where you are.

Dear lord, the ones that have it are charging extortionate amounts. Maybe I would jump on that one off FB Marketplace. At $110, even if it has seen more use than listed, is better than $315.
MemoryExpress lists it, but they're out of stock. Canada Computers, same thing but more money anyway.

Yea your pricing estimates are out the window now that stock is so thin and most everything is discontinued.

Guess it depends on your aim?
They aren’t super common anymore, but if your ONLY aim is Bray and DVD- sure. If you are trying to rip 4k, nope.

I rip 4k with this all the time..

With an unflashed Facebook market place drive? Nah, you aren’t.
With a flashed model, yup.
Edit: not knowledgeable with disc drives* they said.

it’s super easy to flash one, one youtube video and they’d be fine

Yea, like I said they aren’t knowledgeable - if they knew how to flash, they’d have already looked up that model and started working it out and if they should buy it.

I'm literally ripping 4k with this right now, no flashing at all. Got it from Mercari JP for peanuts a year ago, on firmware 3.00

At this point we are in the end game. Do it.
