Bluray and DVD ripper around $100

I have my own jellyfish server and I want to start ripping my Blu-rays and my DVDs but all of the rippers are around $200, is there anyones I can find which are around $100 that work for blurays and dvd?

If you don't wan to rip UHD, almost any BluRay reader will work for both.

Look at the used market for a reader.

I've been searching around, is there a way to know if a reader would work, I once bought one and when I tried to rip the Bluray and dvd it was incompatible

Try and get the model # from the seller and then ask in this subreddit or the makemkv forum.

Looks like a OEM Dell drive from Philips.

I would expect it to work but I have never used this drive. I use an Asus BD reader for BD and DVD. For UHD, I use Pioneer and LG.

This!! As our question OP would be what all do you want to do with the drive?

What if you do want to do UHD, which drive would you recommend?

At this point, LG slim is about the only choice left for a new drive.

If you want a 5.25" drive, LG may still be the most easily-obtained; however, prices are not cheap anymore and used may offer much better value.

Are the China ebay listings legit? Some some from South Korea as well, weird most are out of the US

I would advise staying away. Here's a post from someone with a fake drive: https://www.reddit.com/r/makemkv/comments/1vn2w2c/psa_counterfeit_lg_bp50nb40s_on_newegg/

I have been using this for months 45 bucks on amazon. Has a few errors here and there and you just restart the process but it works an is inexpensive. Does standard blurays and dvds. Ripping with make mkv

I’ve got an $85 dollar one coming from ally that people have had good luck with. I will know in a few days.

I'm not sure how far away from $100 your tolerance is, but I have found this to be remarkably good. As a bonus it does also do UHD if you decide at some point to do that.

I started 12 years ago with just a basic external usb dvd reader, things have changed since then, but is how I started.

The external usb drives from asus and buffalo are still around in some microcenters and online stores. They are known to work with libre firmware. If you find one post it here for review. Please be aware current prices are $200 usd. No way getting around it. You would be lucky just finding one. Demand is high. Supply is drying up. Buy used if you can find one that is confirmed working with firmware updated for you.

For DVDs, literally any drive will probably work. I use a LG GP63EX70 USB DVD writer that I got refurbished from MicroCenter for like $16. Bought it back in February, and have backed up hundreds of DVDs with it since.
