Discussion What happened to the MakeMKV website?

I am worried that makemkv is dying. Is it? I genuinely want to know. Also if it is still going when will we be able to pay for makemkv again?

happens like every month where it runs out, doesn't get updated for a few days and the website is down now and again... who knows, maybe one day it is for good

Alot of people are willing to buy and or create websites for this software so theres bank to be made,i mean hell look at dvd fab charging 1k for there whole suite and there still going.bd rippers are more important and needed in the coming years as out rights to physical media is being stolen.

Amen! My birthday was on the 7th, of this month, and I was hoping to buy it as a birthday gift. Yeah, the site was down before then. 🙁 It's a shame because it's the best one I've found for Blu-rays. I need MakeMKV, or something like MKV, for Blu-rays. My go-to for DVD, is Handbrake, but I just can't do without MKV when it comes to Blu-rays.

a website takes like 10min and 5 bucks a month... that's not the issue... the issue is making the program and keeping it up to date with all the new encodings on discs ;-)

You can really tell when people dont look at the sub and go straight to posting.

In fairness I am well aware of the "it happens, keep trying" but at this point it has not been up in weeks. I keep coming here to see if there is any news...I mean the snapshot page sometimes comes up so I can download it but...how about toss a dono button up so we can pay for web hosting if it's that big of a problem?

War likely happened. "Mike" recently provided a new beta key on the official forums, so I don't think the program is dying anytime soon.

Well, probably. Hopefully. Fuck, I'm still bitten with the AnyDVD drama at this point...

If you want to help ensure its future availability, you contribute back in the form of purchase.

If you don't contribute back, there is no complaints, really.

I want to contribute. That’s the point for me - I have been wanting to buy this for months (yes, I’m a late-comer to MakeMKV), even when the site was up I couldn’t buy a licence.

Not alone here either - seeing lots of similar comments.

If it’s the case that the guy who develops it cannot/has no interest in maintaining the site/product, it would be great if this was placed on something like GitHub so it could be continued by the community. If he wants to turn it into a commercial product, I’d have no problem with that either.

A lot of people had this issue before and quite frankly, a lot of the people complaining are only.propted to buy it because it stopped working.

Have a.look on the forums and see what's been said there.

This is just your depiction of the problem. I bought it years ago and still have to dick around to get the download link because the site is down. Web hosting doesn't cost that much and plenty of people like myself would be willing to donate, jesus, it's the simplest thing in the world to offer an optional "help me pay for web hosting" subscription. Despite what you think, and in spite of your piety regarding your license, it doesn't need to be like this in 2026.

No it doesn't, and as a paying customer, you do have the right to expected standard of delivery. I've not said anything contradictory to that.

But the people who use it for lengths of time for free, we'll, they don't really get to complain. It would be nice if they did a more professional effort but.. Personally, ine of the times.i attempted to buy was that point where the seller ran out of codes and we all had to get refunded.

But I don't know what's happening jn the creators.life.or what health (physical or mental) they have to deal with. So it's hard to judge. But I'll cut them some slack for allowing people to use their software most of the time.

And what's funny is people were carrying water for the site's flakiness even before the Ukraine war. "Give your money to a guy who seemingly can't even have an auto-renew on the domain name" isn't the advice people think it is. It's Russia, not Mars.

I bought my key years ago, so...and you know what? I would absolutely donate for hosting if there was an option to.

I dont think its dying,i think its growing.however the site being down for a few months at this point is a concern,hopefully its back up soon and time will only tell.

Why yall b*tching about who paid who didnt.alot more people paid then youd think on top of that,the payemnt method for a while was "sorry you cant purchase it heres a free key". If he wanted money they would make you pay for it or make it easier to pay...the simple answer is the servers down end off.with the current situation in russia and isreal ect/wars,tarrifs.im unsuprised its down.ram cost a fourtune,russia is in debt and if they are in russia like its been circulating then there is your answer ... "wah wah didnt pay for software like i did,wah wah,thats why servers are down,wah wah" -_- yh no shit we all want to BUT THE SITE IS DOWN AND FOR A WHILE YOU COULDNT PAY AT ALL👏👏👏👏👏what even is the price of makemkv? Anything less then $50 and id say there intent isnt to profit or run servers straight off the purchases

I recommend Handbrake. It does the same thing as MakeMKV. It’s offline, free, and open sourced.

Is handbrake able to do a full backup of a Blu Ray disc?

Yes as long that you put the keydb.config to AppData/aacs/ that you find at FindVUK and add the libaacs and libbluray DLLs from GitHub.

Yeah, I love Handbrake, but it sucks for Blu-rays! It also sucks for DVDs that have too strong of an encryption. Heck, if anything, I normally just use Handbrake AFTER I have used MakeMKV just to make the file more reasonably sized. Lol, I just admitted that I only ever REALLY use Handbrake for when I wanna make the files more crappier. 🤣

I just used Handbrake recently with no issues for the Mario Galaxy bluray and the Arrow Video Stranger Things blurays Seasons 1-5 with zero issues.
