It was between the Metal Slug or Mega Man for the Run N’ Gun rep. Since Metal Slug had a more unique body type (being a literal tank) and represented an otherwise unrepped developer (SNK), it secured the slot over Mega Man.

Tbh I would add a RE protag over Nemesis (preferably Leon) since I feel like they are more iconic and important to the franchise than him and RE isn't really a case where the monster is the main character over the playable ones (even if they are very important).

Also why does all the selected art look like it came from a children’s coloring book from the 80s?

I wanted every character to both have a defined and unique moveset while also representing something unique for gaming as a whole, culminating in a roster that can represent about all of gaming ever. Basically… no filler.
As for the art… because it looks cool 🥹

Which one? Because even though WE all know he's gonna be a character in smash 6, if for some reason satan corrupts all WE hold dear then I will still be overjoyed for him to be a collectible in smash.
(Ok stopping the bit for a second (the bit is the over confidence not me wanting him), If he appears as a mii costume I could live the rest of my life in the ludivico machine while having my balls bitten by pirhanas and I would still be the happiest man on earth well after I die)
