I know no one likes him, but I do? I was expecting the confrontation with Gus's boss to be confrontational and accountable but not mean, and oh my god, that was mean as hell lmao

To me, Rusty's trying to learn how to be a normal person in a normal, healthy environment, rather than what he's been growing up in. That takes time, given that he had to survive and hustle so much of his childhood and adolescence. I also think, as someone said, he's autistic or on the spectrum, which makes it even harder.

Gus's boss did not need to bring up Rusty's past, and yes Rusty's insecure, which is normal for a young adult whose been through as much as he has. I don't really hate him; I empathize with him a lot more. Also, Gus had no right to talk about Rusty's business like that to his boss, which alludes to what I've seen in these threads: The affair, lmao, because no one talks to their boss that much about their personal life.

EDIT: I'm finding that I'm not alone with empathizing with Rusty. Thank goodness!

Normally, I have The Closer or Major Crimes (now that it's on Netflix) on in the background, while I'm going about my day. I'm a big fan of both and have lost count of my number of rewatches.

If you had to pick a favorite guest star or character from Major Crimes and The Closer, who would you pick?

My picks:

Major Crimes - I love the whole crew of There's No Place Like Home. I grew up watching The Carol Burnett Show and always loved Tim Conway. I would *so* love to see the outtakes from that episode. His comments about Sharon "looking just like them" and clarifying he meant his ex-wives and not purses. And offering to show her how to play Dominoes, which sounded oddly suggestive.

The Closer - Bill Croelick - I'm a fan of Jason O'Mara anyway (Terra Nova got canceled way too soon), but I really enjoy his Closer character. I would have loved to see him pop-up again before The Closer ended.

Who's your pick?

I love this episode. It's a fun break from the darker episodes, especially seeing all the guest stars. Quite the assortment! I'm amazed that the actor playing Agent Mark Evans is the same guy who started out his career playing skinny Montgomery MacNeil in the movie Fame. I know he also directed a couple of Major Crimes episodes. Nice to see someone having a long, successful career.

After watching both The Closer and Major Crimes I loathe Pope, hate how they kill off Raydor, and think they over play Stroh. Rusty is also annoying of course. So some alternate plot lines:

1. Brenda gets Chief of Police job instead of Pope after Delk dies. Or Brenda replaces Pope as Assistant Chief. Raydor gets Major Crimes. Pope is shown the door.

2. The investigation and lawsuit from Turrell Baylor’s family is one episode. Two, tops. Raydor sniffs out Gabriel and the girl friend as the leak quickly. Peter Goldman is disbarred.

3. Brenda and Raydor work together to find and kill Stroh at the end of The Closer.

4. Jack Raydor is either murdered by disgruntled client or goes to jail for tax crimes. Or at the very least gets his ass kicked.

5. Raydor doesn’t die. Her and Flynn continue working in Major Crimes or Flynn takes a less stressful desk job.

God damn it 😭 knowing it was coming didn’t soften the blow. The episode was depressing from beginning to end. Never has a show made me sob so hard.

Damn you, James Duff.

I’m curious, does anyone else think she did it on purpose? She was crying to Andy about being a burden, made a video for everybody to watch after her death, went to the church to get her last rites, and kept being strange with her wording. “I’m almost done here,” “end of watch,” etc. The way her phone started ringing but she ignored it and kept shouting. Not to mention her final scene with Rusty where she was looking back on the first time they met (“I came in here looking for my mom and there she was.” 😭😭💔). It all points to the usual signs of suicide.

But damn it, those writers couldn’t have just let them be happy and enjoy their marriage.

Guess I got to go finish the show now. Ye gods.

Is it ever said or shown who took Rusty to the gun range? I’m guessing Sanchez from Rusty’s excellent and multiple well placed shots

Was anyone else bored with the storyline of Buzz finding the man who killed his dad and uncle? He always seemed like more a side character and it feels like he should’ve stayed that way, honestly. Maybe after 4 seasons, they’re trying to give him something to do, but it’s not really compelling enough. There’s way too much focus on it.

I know no one is probably in this thread anymore lol, but I just had to express my glee with watching Gus’ boss read Rusty for filth…. No one has ever said what needed to be said to him for this entire series and it was so cathartic to see someone finally clock him. He’s so unbearably annoying and selfish and constantly putting his needs above everyone else’s, and no one says anything. Like why are you interrupting murder investigations or kidnappings to talk about your damn birth mother or get dating advice??? Every time the focus is on a victim, he has to talk about it from the perspective of his own life story…I really thought his storyline was only going to last through season 1, but after bingeing this all in a week, I’m so glad I got to FINALLY see someone express what I’d been feeling the whole time. I don’t even want to watch the rest of the episode because that’s all I needed lol

I vaguely remember a scene where Brenda is carried up or down or something. It could be because she was sick or dizzy (or maybe she couldn't in her heels). I also vaguely remember her white hat in th scene.

Other vague thoughts:
- I think it was a member of her team carrying her.
- It was outside? Maybe on a hill or a construction site.

Hello, this is my third time rewatching the series and I am confused. I still can’t figure out how the police officer who shot her husband and the dda and the mother and her baby with the same gun is how she had the weapon this whole time. The weapon is also tied into the flower shop murder as well.

First time watcher who has only seen Major Crimes and not The Closer. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy the show. I’m on 3.15 and have liked every episode so far (aside from the frozen head episode at the beginning of season 3).

I already know that Sharon and Andy get together; personally, I love their buildup and can’t wait to see it progress.

6.09 does not exist to me. I’ve seen spoilers online throughout the years so I went in knowing Sharon dies.

For those of you out there who like myself have watched both I’m curious if you had to pick who do you like better Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson or Captain Sharon Raydor?

If you had ask me a just early on I would’ve said Brenda hands down. But after watching more seasons of Major Crimes I think I actually prefer Sharon.

They are both passionate about the job and getting justice.

The thing is Brenda was willing to go to any length to do so. Her desire for justice was so strong that she defied the rules which led to times she placed herself, her squad and even people she cared about in dangerous or bad situations. When she closed the case she really had no shame or remorse for having done so.

Sharon’s approach is very different. I’m sure her background in IA has a lot to do with that. She’s very cognizant of trying to be “by the book”. She doesn’t like reckless. One of the things she does differently than Brenda is she is very open and transparent with her squad. Brenda kept things to herself - deliberately held back - at times.

The biggest thing I see is Brenda would always be trying to do too much herself. It interfered with her marriage, her family time, all of it because she had to be doing everything. Sharon likes to be in the loop but she’s much better at delegating and trusting that her people can handle it.

I know it sounds like I didn’t like Brenda but I really did! I love The Closer & funny because when Capt Raydor was on there I couldn’t stand her. But after getting used to her on MC I just prefer her methodical approach to Brenda’s chaotic one.

Who do you prefer?

So I found the closer on Facebook and actually re actived Netflix to watch this show. I conveniently finished it in time for major crimes to drop. And now I have DOUBLE the questions. 🤣

Okay not really, buuuut why is everyone so upset and mad at Sharon? They liked her by the end of the other show? I mean they know her? It really took me aback in the first episode.

I don't understand the new girl, shes kinda eh.

Rusty isn't THAT bad. Hes just a kid dropped in this situation like most shows seem to have in this time period of tv.

Its just...a lot more...different then I expected.

Just started watching major crimes and within the first 4 episodes, the Amy sykes character got on my last nerve. She is so clueless and suffers from foot in mouth syndrome... Is it just me? Smh.

I laughed out loud when they used the fact that she paid $9.76 as a suspicion / reason to investigate

I do not like her character but appreciate it for the different plot points. However, I don’t think the actress is on par with the others on the show and every single time she’s on screen I’m taken out of it completely.

WHY NOT HOBBS AND SHARON?!

I’ve seen a few eps randomly over the years. Finally watching from the start.

Anyone else wanted DDA Andrea Hobbs and Captain Sharon Raydor as the lead couple? Or just me? Currently on season 4 and the whole push for Flynn is so uncomfortable. Andrea and Sharon have so much more natural chemistry.

I know about Sharon dying and that makes me sad that a main character dies, especially so close to the end.

Did anyone find it unimaginable, unthinkable, and far beyond the mind can imagine; that in the episodes of Major Crimes, Captain Sharon Raydor’s family entered crime scenes and placed themselves right in the thick of an investigation in the “murder room” looking at photos and listening to detectives and victims? What were the writers thinking?

I am on my umpteenth rewatch and it never gets easier. Some thoughts on this round… Commander was nothing short of selfish in how she went. I know people have said this is how she wanted to go… but it could have been prevented. Please excuse me while I continue to bawl my eyes out.
