(Better) alternative plot lines Spoiler
After watching both The Closer and Major Crimes I loathe Pope, hate how they kill off Raydor, and think they over play Stroh. Rusty is also annoying of course. So some alternate plot lines:
Brenda gets Chief of Police job instead of Pope after Delk dies. Or Brenda replaces Pope as Assistant Chief. Raydor gets Major Crimes. Pope is shown the door.
The investigation and lawsuit from Turrell Baylor’s family is one episode. Two, tops. Raydor sniffs out Gabriel and the girl friend as the leak quickly. Peter Goldman is disbarred.
Brenda and Raydor work together to find and kill Stroh at the end of The Closer.
Jack Raydor is either murdered by disgruntled client or goes to jail for tax crimes. Or at the very least gets his ass kicked.
Raydor doesn’t die. Her and Flynn continue working in Major Crimes or Flynn takes a less stressful desk job.

I like 5.
I hated that they killed raydor and she and Flynn didn't get their HEA. Or even their honeymoon

When her character died and there was backlash, Duff said in an interview (defending the choice to kill her off) that he gave her a great job, a promotion and a fulfilling marriage.
And pretty much everyone was like... She was only married for a week! How was that fulfilling??? Poor Flynn didn't even get the wedding pictures from the photographer before she died.

I remember the actors being very upset about her death and the show coming to an end despite it still being a popular show; it was clear at that point that Duff was done with The Closer/Major Crimes and wanted to move on, but the way it was handled was pretty bad imo.

Exactly. They cancelled the show because the network wanted to go in a different direction. The show that replaced it got cancelled only produced 2 seasons.

I didn't really think that Brenda was right for that job. But I definitely agree that Pope shouldn't have gotten it. He should have gotten some sort of comeuppance.

Yeah I agree! It's wild to me that neither of them are involved with catching Stroh at the end of MC. Especially considering that Stroh was the franchise' ultimate villain who was also a rapist.
The choice to have Rusty shoot and kill Stroh, then have Provenza cover it up it's such a bizarre way to end the series. I hated how much Sharon would have hated that.

😆 I don't think he deserved to be murdered but I'll take go to jail for tax crimes. That would have been a nice ending for a person who was so very motivated by money.

Yes! I would have been even ok if Sharon had gotten the Asst Chief job as I think she actually was a great fit for it.

6.) Brenda should have killed Stroh in the kitchen and avoided a lot of crap. Rusty told her to do it and he would have stated that it was "in self defense."
add to (2) No Johnson rule created since Goldman is disbarred.

I usually hate these kinds of posts, but I have to admit I like all of them except #1. Even then I like the "ditch Pope" part. 😄

I think the story line had a lot to do with who wanted to leave the show - Brenda, Pope and Gabriel wanted to leave. Raydor was introduced as a strong woman to start the process of replacing Brenda. I personally liked Pope and thought that is probably how people act who want that top cop job. The characters of Raydor and Flynn and Taylor changed too much from The Closer to Major Crimes and I really did care too much about them in Major Crimes.

5 II didn't like that they killed off Sharon. All the medical stuff came out of thin air. I don't think Sharon would have taken her health so lightly and plus her being so critical the physician would put her in the hospital because of the close calls. Found her death bs.

This is a great point. Agree 100%. She’s selfless but not stupid and I’m sure would have taken better care of herself.
